How much for petsitting?

We are going to Orlando this weekend, and we've arranged for our teenage neighbor to come over to check on our dog. She'll probably come a total of 4 times, to feed him and really just check and make sure he's OK.

When I talked to her about doing it, she and her mom said to pay "whatever I thought was fair" but I have no idea what that is!

So how much would give her?
Thanks!

When we go out of town, my sister stays with my golden and we pay her $50 a day. Really, she's only here in the morning and evening to feed him, but she's here all night with him. During the day when she's at work, I have a petsitting service take care of him at lunch and they spend about 30 minutes with him. They charge $12 a day.

A fair price really depends on what you're asking the petsitter to do and how long they will be with your pet. Also, is your pet a problem child or is he/she well behaved. A few things to think about.

Good luck.

$50

I pay my neighbor girl $50 for a weekend and $20/day for longer trips

I payed $20 a day for a friend's daughter to take care of our guinea pigs while we were gone for 2 weeks last year. They kept them at their house so it was more involved than just coming by twice a day.

I'd say in your case somewhere between $30-50.

$15-$17 per visit/30 min is the going rate for a bonded and insured professional with years of experience here. This includes walks, playtime, feeding, cleaning, and etc.

For a next door teenager, I would give $30 and some treats/souvies from Disney.

I am a bonded PS and this is what my boss charges....I am wondering tho, only 4 visits for an entire weekend? I was thinking 4 day? I would say $50 would be nice and pretty much ensure she helps you out again.

We pay our petsitter/housesitter $25 a day. We also give her an extra $25 to pay for gas or whatever she chooses, and we make sure the pantry and fridge are stocked with her favorites.

I petsit a dog - I walk him 4 times per day.. morning early, noonish and 3:30 pm then evening . we visit his grandma and other dogs that he is friends with so he gets lots of play time.. and is tired when we get back.... I feed him twice , change the water, play with him, and make him feel loved..

all total i spend about 2 hours per day with him..some times more..I dont get paid but swap with the neighbor.. when i am gone she takes care of my pet..
do you have a neighbor to swap with??

We swap too. And the only place we ever go is WDW, so we usually bring a souvenir back for our neighbor who watches our kitties.

I pay $20 a visit and she comes 3 times a day - 30 min. visits. My MIL stays at night.

Wondering about 4 times for a whole weekend too. Maybe 4 times a day.

We pay the teenager that watches our cat $10 a vist.
He feds him and cleans the litter box once every couple of days.
And brings the mail in.

I did this for my neighbor when he went to FL for 2 weeks. I got 120 bucks. I thought it was fair. I didn't do that much.

Thanks for the responses. We'll leave late Fri and return Sun, so I figured once Fri and once Sun and twice on Sat. He'll have access to the fenced back yard, so she really just has to feed him and just check on him. She has to go to work on Saturday, so I imagined a quick visit to refresh his food and water and maybe a little longer to play with him that evening, but I'm talking maybe 40 minutes worth of work for the whole weekend.

$50 a day seems a bit much, especially when his vet charges $25 a day to board him.

We pet-sit very often for an older couple in our neighborhood. She pays my son or daughter $7 for each visit or $21 a day.

I meant $50 total for the weekend. Really? only 40 minutes of interaction for the whole weekend? My pooch would go nuts, but you know your pet better than anyone. I think if that is all you are needing then yeah, 50 is fine.

$50 for the weekend sounds reasonable...I thought someone mentioned $50 a day, but I think maybe it was for staying overnight.

Our dog is really mellow (and old!) so while he loves people, he's fine relaxing in the grass, too. I imagine she'll hang out with him as much as she can, but since we'll only be gone one full day, I think he'll be fine. Not ideal, but neither is being cooped up in a kennel at the vet. He'll be much happier chillaxin at home :dog2:

Thanks again :thumbsup2
