UGH! I just found out that since we are considered a Youth Performing Group (my daughter's dance class was invited to dance at the Magic Kingdom) we are not eligible for the Dining Plan. We can buy quick service meal coupons for $13.75 each per person from the travel agency, but I don't want to only eat at counter service all week. What would be a reasonable amout to budget for food? There will be 5 of us going (4 adults and 1 child). I don't think I will be buying any of the coupons if I am just going to be paying for other food anyway. We usually eat a late breakfast or early lunch and then dinner, so we normally eat 2 meals a day instead of 3. I am clueless on how much we are going to need!

It would be too hard to give you an estimate not knowing how much or what type of food you like.

I would suggest you take a look at the menus on this site. They list the prices of the meals and you can get an estimate that way.

I budget:
$30 per adult for a TS
$10 per child
$12 per adult for a QS
$6 per child
$5 per adult for snacks
$3 per child

hope that helps some

If the $13.95 counter service ticket is one meal per person per day then that is a joke. I've never spent that much on one counter service meal.

As far as budgeting: I would say $40 per adult per day. That is basically what you would spend on the dining plan. I have used the dining plan on all of my vacations and I really haven't saved any money using it. It usually comes out about even ($40 a day per adult). The one child would be less than that but it depends on where you want to eat.

Most buffets will run you about $30 per adult, Most other restaurants will be $30 -$50. Counter service meals run about $10

Yes, I was thinking that was a lot for one counter service meal, especially for a child. We have only been to Disney one other time and we were on the Dining Plan, but it didn't seem like CS was that much.
