How much for a root canal in your area?

I'm trying to figure out what is reasonable and what is an arm and a leg. Also, include the cost of the crown and if you have insurance.

I need two root canals, but the price I was quoted (with insurance) seens really high. However, I've never needed a root canal before so maybe it's the norm :confused ? For two, with the root canal being done in a different location, the total cost is around $7,500-8,000. That is WITH insurance.

I contacted a local dentistry school and heard a lower price for the root canal portion, but about the same for the crown. So, any thoughts? What are some averages you've had?

My last one was around $1500. I am scheduled to have 5 more and some additional work and the total for that is around $10,000. I am located in Kansas

I had one done last week, it was $340. I already had a crown on the tooth, if I wouldn't have it would have been $900. If they would have broken the crown getting it off, I would have had to pay for that OOP and the total would have been $1400. I think you need to find a new dentist!!

Depending on how tricky the work is, a crown alone is around $1300 here. We have dental insurance, but it is the kind that re-imburses you after you pay for the work.

I will just add that if you decide to go the dental school route make sure to add into the total the eeeextra time it will take to do everything and I meant lots and lots of extra time, so if your time is valuable (like have to take off work) factor that into your total.

I'm in the Kansas City area...just had a root canal and crown done last month.
Root canal- $1095, insurance paid all but $228
I haven't gotten the paper work on the crown yet, but my out of pocket was around $250 for that, so about $1250 before insurance.

In the UK in a NHS Dentist, root canal work is a fixed price of £48 ($75) You may have to wait a couple of weeks for an appointment though!

The absolute most a NHS dentist in the UK can charge for a treatment is £209 ($325) and that would be for major work, including crowns and dentures. $8000 sounds like a joke.

Private patients (people that opt to pay for their own treatment outside of the NHS) could expect to pay £400-£500 ($620 - $775) for root canal work in the UK. The only difference being is that they would get seen straight away.

Does your insurance provide an EOB? Ours provides the average charges for these services performed in our zipcode, both in network and out. I would try and see if your insurance has the customary charges available for you to reference.

The prices you show I would say are on the high end but you are in a high cost of living and insurance area. But I'm getting roughly 6,000 using their high and am wondering how they are guessing $7,500-8

One thing to think about, does your Dental insurance have a maximum yearly pay out? and by having 2 crowns in the same year you are exceeding that so you aren't getting any benefits paid toward one crown? And does your insurance pay more or less depending on the crown material? Since they are back teeth I would find this out since appearance isn't quite as critical.

If that is the case possibly you could have both root canals done now and only 1 crown and a temp crown put on till your next benefit year. I have had to do this.

I just had one done on my front tooth. It was about $1,000 with no crown needed. My insurance paid for about $700 of it. I am in the Philly area.

That's without the root canal. Now, you'll have to forgive me if I sound like I'm 30 going on 10 here because that is what I feel like. I am so new when it comes to dental work and the insurance that surrounds it all.

Our max yearly payout is 1000. I talked to my dentist and they said I could just get the build ups and do the crowns later on. Even still, it just all feels so nuts to me. I do hope that I can nix the crown lengthening. I know that isn't standard and also isn't a definite in my case.

I have had several of each, at my regular dentist a root canal is around 1000and my insurance pays 1/2, I had one done at a root canal specialist for $1500 and they put me out, I paid 400 for each crown with insurance, I am in PA

I had a bunch done and they were all about 1500.00 each for root canal and crown. I needed one done on one back molar but I ended up just saying pull it so I am short one tooth LOL--but that was about 18 years ago and the tooth was abcessed and hurting so bad I wanted it out and gone!

I had a root canal about 7 years ago. It was around 400+ and that was without insurance. You are seriously getting ripped off.

It depends on where you live. Here in Boston, its $1400 for the root canal another $2000 for the crown. My insurance will pay for half of it, up to $1000 per year. Even at a dental school here in the city (we have 3) patients will pay way more than the $400 you paid.
