How Much Does Your 9/10 Year Old Weigh?

My DD just turned 11 in May and she is 5'10" tall and around 130 lbs....very tall............but her dad(My DH) is 6'8" and I am 5'8" so she has ALWAYS been off the charts for height..........and she loves Basketball....

My oldest DD is 9 years and 5 months. She is 49" and weighs between 45 - 46 pounds. I was worried about her being too small and asked her doctor; he said because she consisitantly gains weight every year she is fine and is healthy. She has always been in the 5th percentile or lower since birth, she's just a very little girl!

Who has a link to the this online calculator for BMI and weight that everyone keeps reffering too??? thanks!

I think thirst is one of the med side effects.
DS always has gum with him, always because of dry mouth and feeling thirsty. When he was still in elementary, one of the 504 plan conditions was either to allow a water bottle in class or allow him to get up and go to a water fountain.

Now that he is in HS, water bottles are allowed so we don't have to have a special provision.

Even still, mention your concern to the doctor.

Ahh thanks for posting that. I JUST received his "welcome pack" from his teacher this year and it does note they can bring water bottles, so I'll be sending him with one!

my dd10 has always been off the charts. she just turned 10 and is approx 5 feet and 105. she has never been "fat" or even really chubby. she is the tallest and probably the youngest in her class. coming from the shortest parents and the shortest grandparents in the family we have always been :confused3 at her size. people ask us all the time where she gets her size. the doctors have always said her bmi was high. last year we had a scare with her cholesterol being high and her sugar levels getting high but we are now going though a family medical center for lifestyle changes for OUR eating habits.... NOT A DIET!! this is a family change- which we all need- not just her. none of is large or overweight. we all are active - baseball, golf, curves, walk everyday...we as well as her doctors want to make sure we keep her size where is should be. she is very active (swimming, soccer, Curves) and we watch her sugar intake- she has never liked soft drinks :goodvibes and loves water :cool1:

i think it's all in her genes- from back generations!!(tall cousins and great grandparents)

it just makes me sad that she is 10 and already going through major body changes!!! but like my mom says... at least she is healthy.:lovestruc

her sugar levels getting high
Remember that high sugar levels are related to carbohydrate intake (which break down into sugars). So pay attention to carbohydrate content on nutrition labels. A nutritionist can give you some guidelines on what her approximate carb intake should be for each meal and snack. Try to give her complex carbs as opposed to refined carbs. Good luck, it sounds like you are all making changes and that's a great thing. :thumbsup2

My 11 yo dd is in the 80th percentile for height and the 23rd percentile for weight. I wish I could say the same.

She eats like a horse though. I think she has a highly efficient metabolism for turning calories into misbehavior.

I pulled up a link for you in my above post.

I had this problem with pumpkin same age and adhd, they put him on the patch. He's fattening up a bit. Still tall and thin but not sickly. It's called Daytrana. Also no side effects for him. Hes been on it for a year now. Totally different kid. Oh the best part is he takes it off in the evening so he doesn't
have meds running through him 24 hours a day.;) Of course this isn't what you were asking BUT it
was a concern I had when he was on other medication.

I CORRECTED MYSELF.:lmao:

No, I did not share what all went on in the dr's office. Trust me if there is a problem with my son's weight I would be the first one on it. I wanted to mentioned about my DS not being overweight because he does weigh more then most 9 yrs old and I know how judgemental the DIS can get.

He is solid, not flabby. He doesn't sit around and play video games all day and eat ho-hos. He is active and always on the go. Yes, he weighs around 100 pounds but that doesn't make him "fat"

Hopefully one of these days people will realize the BMI chart is just a guideline. You can look at a person and know if they are flabby or not and need to lose weight. My son does not fall into that category.

Exactly! Many football players would be considered fat by those charts, when they are actually very muscular. I was always told that the general guideline for men was 106 pounds for 5ft and then 6lbs added for every inch after that. For females it was 100 lbs for 5ft and then 5lbs for every inch in height after that. Then you would add or subtract a few based on body type.

There are skinny people who are in horrible shape although their BMI is within acceptable limits.
