My DS17 had two wisdom removed this morning (luckily for him the bottom ones never developed). He has had anxiety about the surgery for several weeks, which was made worse by his Asperger's Syndrome. The doctor even recommended full anesthesia rather than the lighter "twilight sleep" because he was so anxious.

Last night, he was insisting that he couldn't go through with it and he was afraid he wouldn't wake up. As an incentive, DH said, "You know, the tooth fairy pays pretty well for wisdom teeth!" Being 17, he said, "You mean you guys will pay me!" I said, "Yeah, how about $50 bucks, $25 for each tooth?" He said, "Oh, that might work." This morning he ended up cooperating just fine after a little drama, and we're on the hook for $50. I think it's fair, considering that he's having quite a bit of discomfort.

What's the going rate for wisdom teeth? Did we get swindled?:rotfl:

Well, given what it's going to cost us to get dd's wisdom teeth removed, I don't think the Tooth Fairy is going to have any moolah to spare.

I think that was fair and it lessened his anxiety. He ultimately went through with it.:thumbsup2 Poor kid, hope he is feeling better! :)

my son had his out first week of summer vacation i didnt get him anything now i feel guilty

My anxiety was so bad we did full anesthesia and I slept wonderfully! :]
"Besides when i woke up during the surgery......"

My mom got me presents instead of money. I was happy with that :]

My brothers and I never got anything for wisdom teeth. :confused3

nothing! and I don't feel guilty about it.

WOW, 50 bucks?

All 3 of our kids had to have their wisdom teeth removed by the oral surgeon (thanks to my genes, all 3 had impacted teeth). They got $10.

By that time, it was a token gesture, as they were well aware of the tooth fairy mythology.

:cutie:

I will be having mine out within a month. All four. :scared1:
It's going to cost us nearly $400 OOP plus copay... I wish there was a tooth fairy!

My boys were 18. They got no cash for their wisdom teeth. They both had them out several weeks before they left for college that we paid for. So, I guess you could say they got 4 years of college from the tooth fairy.

An IPad and a new IPhone 4. That's what my son got this summer before he headed back to school and his taken out.

I was 16 when my wisdom teeth were removed. An oral surgeon did the job and I was asleep, something I highly recommend. No one should hear, see or smell the events of oral surgery. My mom took my on a little shopping spree when I was feeling better.

I see you live in California.:joker: Maybe wisdom teeth cost more out there. :joker: The tooth fairy didn't leave anything for any of my kids' wisdom teeth, except jello, ginger ale, and popsicles.

I got stitches, and a prescription for pain meds. My mom was furious because I filled the prescription, too. I never figured out why.

My parents got me the 'we'll put it off until you are 18 and then it is your problem' gift for my wisdom teeth (they were told to remove them when I was 15, but balked).

So, dunno how much you can give, but you are a better parent than mine were in this arena.

Dd's is going to cost us $1200.

Mine is also $1200 before insurance. And they're submitting it to both medical ins then dental. Or is it the other way. I don't remember. Our share will be around $400. I'm going to an oral surgeon and as long as my GP says it's ok, I'm being knocked out. Honestly, if I'm not, I will not be able to do it. I have severe dentist anxiety.

I asked my mom what the tooth fairy was going to leave me that night, and she asked me where the teeth were- if they weren't under my pillow, I wasn't getting anything :rotfl: She did buy me a chocolate banana smoothie after the surgery, but mostly because the doctor told her she should give me something along those lines shortly after we got home.
