My DS17 had two wisdom removed this morning (luckily for him the bottom ones never developed). He has had anxiety about the surgery for several weeks, which was made worse by his Asperger's Syndrome. The doctor even recommended full anesthesia rather than the lighter "twilight sleep" because he was so anxious.
Last night, he was insisting that he couldn't go through with it and he was afraid he wouldn't wake up. As an incentive, DH said, "You know, the tooth fairy pays pretty well for wisdom teeth!" Being 17, he said, "You mean you guys will pay me!" I said, "Yeah, how about $50 bucks, $25 for each tooth?" He said, "Oh, that might work." This morning he ended up cooperating just fine after a little drama, and we're on the hook for $50. I think it's fair, considering that he's having quite a bit of discomfort.
What's the going rate for wisdom teeth? Did we get swindled?
