Just curious as to how much of a year's income people will use on a disney vacation

Your responces will vary depending on what people make and for how long they stay. Do you want room stay along with how much you spend a day. We usually plan on spening at least $100 a day so when we go for 10, That is easy $1000. But room rates are different depending on where you stay and what kind of discount you may be able to get. Sorry, maybe I'm making too much of this or taking it too seriously, Just wanted to let you know info. will vary a great deal.

Diane :( bumbed because I lost my tags

I think by asking about how many weeks of pay you use to go to disney is a measure of how special a disney vacation is to that person.

Someone who spends more than a months pay going to disney (regardless of staying offsite at the cheapest motel or at GF with all the perks) must really enjoy going to disney!!

They are committing more than 8% of their yearly take home income to go to disney. That is an impressive amount to spend on a vacation

I agree, we try to go at least 3 times a year. We really enjoy being at Disney. It is worth every penny to be somewhere where you can forget about the rest of the world, well almost, when we were there last July, my dad passed away, so almost get away from the rest of the world.

Diane.

Have a Disney Day.

There's not an option for how much we Brit's pay - even by doing a DIY holiday instead of a package tour.

Hi there ~ you are going to get a lot of different responses, big families will cost much more, also people who fly as opposed to driving.

I was just talking to my UPS driver this morning and he was saying he took a personal loan to pay for his Disney trip in the fall at 6.5% interest. I guess that is better than a credit card interest rate but I have never heard of anyone actually taking a loan specifically for a holiday.

When we work out the numbers, our family going to Disney ended up being more than what we spent taking the whole family to Europe, than what we spent on two different trips to Sandals with just the two of us, and many other expensive vacations. They say money can't buy love, but a worry-free Disney vacation is priceless to bringing the family together with smiles all around.

My daughter asked us how we took her to Disney when she was small. She knew money was very tight then. When I told her how we did it, and all the things we didn't do there and at home so that we were able to enjoy a "day" at Disney with her as a little girl, she began to understand more of what it means to be a family. At 17, you don't get those moments very often. I hope when she has a family of her own, she takes them to Disney when they're young, so that she can see the glow on their faces as they get closer to the park, while watching Mickey slowly appear from behind the signs going into the park. Those moments stay with you forever.

What my DH didn't count on during this trip, is that the heavenly bed at the Swan would be so heavenly that I'd be spending the following week buying up new linens and pillows for our bedroom! :)

Have a happy and safe Fourth of July!

I have never sat down and figured it out. We stay at a resort two to three times a year, plus we have annual passes and visit WDW at least once a month to just do a park. This year we are also cruising. YIKES. It's just safe to say that Disney is one of our regular expenses. :D

Copper, my DH would agree with what you have in your signature. :teeth: I hope you get your tags back.

Our last trip we spent about $1800 total, with room and tickets as well as food and goodies. We did very well. I hope we can find the same kind of deal for next year.

But you all know our trips to WDW are....

PRICELESS!

I think it was worth every penny of it. This is the first year in 20 years I won't be going to DW. The kids are older and we are looking at colleges for my son so we have used up all our extra $$$'s doing that. I wish the kids were still little but that is another story entirely...

I can't imagine spending more than a weeks take home for a weeks vacation, regardless of where I was going!

Here is a rough estimate by day at Disney. You also have to add transportation costs.

$200/night for a Deluxe with tax and with a discount
$180/day for tickets for 4 with a multi-day ticket
$100/day for food, drinks, ice cream, etc. (no fancy restaurants)

For a seven night, 6 days at the parks trip, with airfare (about $1000 for 4 for us) it costs about $4,500 to $5,000 with souvenirs and extras like minature golf. You can save on hotel, but you can't do much about food and tickets. Obviously, if you can drive, you can save on airfare, but we are too far away to do that.

vacations are a priority for me. i would estimate for a typical disney trip i spend about 1 month of pay. of course this year we are able to do it for almost half of that thanks to the ftp. :)

i have also only been working 2 years out of college, so my 2 week's pay is probably a lot less than someone like ducklite's. (for us, a week's worth of my paycheck would only pay for about 7 days of food -- and that is counter service!!!) i make a decent amount of money (i certainly make more than some of my friends), yet i just can't imagine only spending 1 week's pay on a vacation unless i were vacationing at the holiday inn down the street or something!!! that's about as far as a week's worth of pay would take me. :p :p :p

Caity--You'll get there :) When I was two years out of college I couldn't afford to take a camping vacation to the local KOA! I'm not sure I could afford to buy a tent to camp in my own yard for that matter back then LOL!

One reason I started the poll was because I am amazed by some of the vacations people talk about (eg family of 6 at GF concierge - two rooms- with all the extras).

I wondered if these boards are populated by wealthy people who can drop $6 - $10K on a vacation without a second thought. Or are the populated by people who are disney nuts that spend a large percentage of their income on disney.

Right now it looks like disney nuts since people are spending more than one months pay on a disney vacation.

I don't think I am a "Disney nut" because we took our children on a vacation to a wonderful place.

Besides, what my DH and I make in a month, is obviously not the same as say my boss and his wife.

So, before you call people nuts, take a look at the diversity on this board.

I wish I could afford more on my vacation, but that WDW vacation in Dec. has to last me until 2004.

Lisa

You also have to keep in mind that some of us, can't afford to go every year, (airfare, especially) so we might be able to spend a bit more, because we have more time to safe! My twins just turned nine and this will be there first time, so we have been saving for a few years, LOL!! We hope to go back when they are teenagers!!! Hope this helps! :D

I think many people have a very limited vacation time frame in which to go on vacation with their whole family. The times they do get away they want it to be everything they've dreamed it can be.

In my eyes, it is worth every penny (not a month for us but up there) for our week together, since the rest of the year we are working, running kids around, yada yada yada. Its nice to stop and smell the roses.. with Mickey no less!

Debbie

And....where I come from, if you HAVE TO ASK...YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT!! (JK...LOL). We do not think of the amount of $$$ we spend on our annual sojourns (more than one, but the summer is the longest), but more of the LIFE we are LIVING! ;) Not every one can afford the same luxuries in life, but it doesn't cost a lot to HAVE FUN! Remember...the best things in life, ARE NOT THINGS. :)

lisajl

relax - I don't use Disney Nut as a derogatory term. I use it to describe people who love disney and will do almost anything to spend time there.

I consider myself a disney nut. From Dec 2002 - Dec 2003, we will have done four trips from boston (driving overnight with a 1 and 4 year old)

Some people "GET"disney others don't. These are the Disney Nuts...
