How much do you tip your hairdresser?

I never know exactly how much to tip. Does your tipping depend on what they did (ie. just a trim vs. colour, perm, etc...)? Do you tip hairdressers like you tip waiters/waitresses (15%)? I'm curious to hear what the general consensus is here.

I tip 20% of the services rendered.

i usually tip between 10-20% depending on how i like it and what they did.

I always go to the same person I tip 20% on services.

I go to the same girl(salon owner) and get the same thing done each time, wash, cut, & blow dry. I tip 23% of the cost(yes,I just figured it out).

I usually tip $5 for a haircut for me and $8 for both dd and I. When I get a pedicure I tip a bit more - she does a really good job and my feet are very dry and calloused (sp?) during the year.

My perm two weeks ago cost $48.99, I tipped her $10. My hair was still wet when I left the shop, but if I would have known how much I would hate the perm by the next day (and still hate it!) I would have only tipped $5. It wasn't exactly what I had in mind. :(

When I go for just a cut and style I think it's about $16 so I usually tip $3-$4 for that.

Holy cow, I just figured it out with a calculator and I've been tipping 25%!

nothing.....I always go to the owner.

Pheeww...that's my deal.....he owns the salon, is the only stylist, so I pay the $32. for a haircut and call it even..

What about the shampoo girl/guy? Do you tip them? I usually give them a dollar or two -- more if I had a perm or color that required more work from the shampoo person.

I got a perm 2 weeks ago (finally relaxing to where I like it), it was $50, I tipped $8 to the stylist and $2 to the shampoo girl (who also helped by taking the rods out and applying the neutralizer). I go to the co-owner but still tip. I first started going to her probably 20 years ago when she was employed at another shop. Then a couple years later another girl and her decided to open their own shop down the street. I had heard about not tipping the owner, but it felt funny since I always tipped her at the old shop. Cuts are $22, I usually give her $3 or $4 and the shampoo girl $1.

I tip between 15-20% . I usually give the shampoo-er a few bucks too, more on the days when I get one of those great shoulder/neck/scalp massages. Sometimes I buy the shampoo-er coffee too, if he agrees to go on a coffee run.

I always have a problem knowing what to tip when the girl who does my hair blows my hair straight. I have ALOT of thick hair so I think it takes her quite a while to get it all straight. It costs $25 to get done so I guess I will give her $5? When she cuts and blows it out I guess I should give her around $8-$10?
