How Much do you tip mousekeeping a day?

Yes, we did let them know. It didn't ruin the trip and I would even stay there again, but given the great service we had everywhere else we were a little disappointed. The Mousekeeping at Movies was definitely sub-standard compared to everything else we experienced at Disney though.

We also had the worst mousekeeping I've even encountered at ASMu. The mousekeeper was an international gentleman that did not speak English. He also had NO idea how to clean or make a bed. We laughed when we got back in the room every night at how bad it was. One time the spread was on sideways - it hung down much too far on one side, so it was tucked into the mattress. It truly was laughable. I don't think he ever even went into the bathroom - if he did, it was to use it! We thought about complaining, but if a middle aged guy is that bad off that he needs that job, we weren't going to cause him an grief. And, it gave us something to talk about...we STILL laugh about it. Did I tip him? Nada!

I know that this is no excuse... so please dont flame me--- but the Value resorts are much much bigger, and turn over often times more people than the other resorts. Hence, wear and tear becomes more apparent, and these rooms get very dirty-- so they need more cleaning. DH and I stayed at an all star resort once (music)... and vowed never to return-- unless our budget just insisted. I have a real problem with uncleanliness in hotel rooms. I do think it kinda goes along with staying in a value resort. Just my opinion...

The great thing about value resorts is that it allows more people to visit disney, especially those who wouldnt get to unless these were here. I think value resorts are great and bring a lot more opportunity to disney. So I certainly dont think bad of the value resorts--please dont think that.

We stayed at ASMo last year and didn't tip...didn't know we "should". Our housekeeping was so, so and we never saw a towel animal or any of the added touches people talk about (i.e., housekeeping arranging the stuffed animals, etc.). We are staying at POFQ this time and I plan to tip $1 a day, per person and I'm hoping we will see a little more attention to detail. Already have the money in the envelopes and marked Mousekeeping.

I've already made envelopes and plan on $1 per day per person.

Now if I see that mousekeeping is horrible, then there will be an exception. I myself wouldn't feel right "not tipping" even though it's not a tipped position. My cousin was in housekeeping before and her wages were horrible.

For all of you that said you don't tip if you were staying at a holiday inn on another vacation would you tip the people that clean your room?

I have to say, I don't tip housekeeping. Never have, probably never will. Doesn't matter what resort or hotel I'm at. If I feel they went the extra mile then I might tip at the end.

if you tip at the end it may not be going to the person that "went that extra mile" for you,,,,the housekeepers don't share tips either.

I usually always leave a tip,,,,unless the room is sub-par...

.

I would think that mousekeepers are hired at the same pay scale with the same "references" and qualifications for any of the resorts. Why would or should I expect, or accept, subpar cleaning in a value, moderate or deluxe. Mousekeeping is mousekeeping whether it's the GF or AS or the Best Western on Hotel Plaza Blvd! When the rooms aren't cleaned properly IMHO is the fault of the manager who should be on top of their work.

I completely agree that no one should settle for that. But most of the housekeeping problems do occur at the value resorts. There are more guests there... and probobly fewer housekeepers. With more people coming and going--- they probobly get dirtier than most. I never said people should settle for that, or am saying that type of cleanliness is acceptable...

$5/day at value and moderate and $10/day at deluxe.

Offsite hotels with evening turndown service gets $5 for that also.

I never tip housekeeping unless they do something extra. Our room at Pop was clean but nothing that says they went the extra mile, that they were due anything special, it's their job it is what I am paying for in the room rate. On the last day I left a bunch of papers and extra trash so I left a tip that day, but if I hadn't left extra trash I would not have. I don't tip at other hotels either unless I have asked for something special.

It's interesting that Disney considers this a non-tipping position. Would this change anyones policy of leaving a tip? I usually leave $2/day.

No I will always tip, I left a little extra during our stay because it was Christmas time. Also, wondering are you not required to tip your cabin steward on a cruise, I see no difference between the two. Therefore I will continue to leave a tip :) .

I call it gratuity, like at a restaurant. You know, root word Gratis, as in gratitude that someone is willing/able to preform that job so my vacation is a little nicer.

$1 a day per person sounds about average for us (we are 6) so yes, if I come back to an exceptionally clean room, it does make my day that much nicer and I will tip more. If I come back to a sloppy job then maybe a little less.

In the economic scope of things, it doesn't amount to that much more. . .

I also would call/write Disney if a CM (any CM) went over and above and realy did an excellent job.

My DH saved his company over half a million dollars last year single handed-ly and received no recognition at all. that was really hard for him. where is the motivation to do better? where is the encouragment?

I want Disney to remain a magical place, so I treat the employees magically when I can.

We stayed at POP for a week last month, DH, DS age 2, and I. I tipped $2 a day in an envelope marked for Mousekeeping. I am a very neat person as is my hubby and we always picked up after my son. We weren't in the room much to make a mess anyways. We tipped what we did because when we arrived we had a towel animal and everything was ALWAYS done well, we could tell the toliet and sink were wiped and beds were made and trash was taken out. The mousekeeper probably only spent about 5-10 minutes in our room so I figure for that amount of time $2 is great. We got towel animals about 3 times and my son's "animals" were always set up cute. We tipped more in 2005 at PORiverside and got a sub par clean up job with no regular towels, cups, or emptied trash. We were happy with the job at POP, I may tip more next time.

as a housekeeper myself i would never not tip. i'm planning on $3 a day and extra on checkout day. its funny how people leave completly different amounts the place i work at is a small hotel nothing special somepeople leave nothing. others leave a couple of bucks and sometimes they leave 15-20 which is crazy for the kind of hotel it is. but the only time it bothers me when someone leaves nothing is when the room is trashed.
