I just got back from my bc trip, but I was unsure of how much I was suppossed to tip mousekeeping. We were there Sun - Fri, & they just dropped off towels on Wed & left. So I left a $10 at the end of the trip. I was not sure if this was not enough.

I left a five dollar bill on trash and towel day, I plan on leaving 10$ on full cleaning day this time because we have a 2BR.

How much do you tip your kids for hanging up their towel and taking out the trash in their bedroom?

Unless they are cleaning the room, a full tip shouldn't be expected. It's like the tip cup they put out at Starbucks. I'm not tipping for a $4.95 cup of black coffee.

Don't get me wrong, I am a big believer in leaving good tips, but I believe that there should be service and a bit of effort involved in earning the tip.

I would leave a couple of bucks unless you had the big clean done on day 8, then 10-15 bucks is appropriate. The trash and towel service should be paid for with our membership dues.

Yes that makes sense. I just did not want to be cheap. I usually end up over tipping, because I don't ever remember all the guidelines. I questioned this trip, because my room was not that clean when I checked in. So I cleaned it at check in, & I cleaned at check out. I just can not leave a room dirty. I made sure all the towels were washed & in the dryer, & I took out all the trash, & washed all the dishes. I did not scrub the tubs again though :goodvibes. Maybe I should have tipped myself :goodvibes

We tipped $15 for our 9 day stay in a 1 bdr villa. Mousekeeping at BWV was great. They brought us a ton of extra towels and pillows minutes after we called...and we were ALL the way down the hallway. :teeth:

When our son got sick in the middle of the night, they came up with new sheets and pillows and a bottle of cleaner to clean the bathroom...she even offered to clean it herself. I told her I would do it, but thanked her. Come to think of it, I should have left them $20!

My last trip was a 11 dayer at the VWL. I left a $22 tip. Mainly for the 1 full cleaning day and for the extra times I called them (for towels and salt & Pepper). They responded very quickly and were extremely friendly.

For 5 days, and 2-3 people I leave a total of $20....including trash and towel day. At BWV I've usually gotten great service. You don't have to tip, but I go often and stay in the same places and the mousekeepers are starting to recognize me, especially at HH and BWV. If they are dropping off towels on T&T day, I want the used ones gone. Trash- we always empty it each day ourselves, as well as getting the recycled items out of the room - these are small spaces and I don't like anything that may smell left around, so there is rarely any trash for the T&T collection.

Disney's housekeepers are non-tipped employees, so you aren't necessarily supposed to tip them anything (and technically, they're supposed to decline tips, but that rarely happens). So it is basically up to you, if you want to give them an extra little gift -- whether to do so as well as how much to give. You shouldn't feel bad about any amount you gave (or about having given nothing extra at all, for that matter).

Holy Cow, forgive me for veering slightly :offtopic: ,
but I am so happy to hear you say this. I am a great tipper, but there are some situations that drive me insane. For instance, at our Dunkin Donuts there is a HUGE sign written by an employee on the counter encouraging tips, and I get a dirty look when I don't pony up. But, come on, isn't that YOUR JOB to hand me my donut? I am now seeing these at the ice cream counters as well.

Oh my gosh.....I also believe tipping has gotten out of hand...Even the 7-11 in my area has a tipping cup...Come on I shouldn't have to tip a non-tipping job for good service....Just my 2 cents..... :)

Disney does not consider housekeeping a tipped position, but we do it anyway. The norm elsewhere is $1/person/night in less expensive hotels and $2/person/night in upscale hotels. For DVC we generally leave $1/person for trash/towel service and $2/person for a full cleaning.

DH travels a ton and always believes in leaving a daily tip---you really do get better service for it (plus, those housekeeping people work HARD, especially compared to what people tip for bellservice to move a few suitcases out of the car). Anyway, for a 5 day trip we usually leave $10. on T&T and $10 for final day (and I clean up pretty well before we leave). But hey, that tip always pays off---in Aug. at VWL we got tons of extra towels and kitchen supplies, plus 5 boxes of detergent lined up on the washer. It seems like mousekeeping (or housekeeping anywhere else for that matter) really tries to say thank you for the thought of tipping them. :sunny:

I didn't know we were suppose to tip, now I feel terrible. I am a new owner but my rooms have always been really clean. I will have to make up for this in Oct.

We usually don't tip mousekeeping.

Perhaps you misunderstood the messages above. Rest assured, you're not "supposed" to tip. It is completely up to you. The Disney housekeepers receive full wages -- they're non-tipped employees. Many guests do enjoy giving them gifts, but you're under no obligation to do so. Please do not feel bad at all.
