Just wondering whether we spend 'too much' on groceries. There are 5 of us (2 adults, 3 kids) and we spend between £80 and £90 a week. This includes food and sundries, like toilet roll, washing powder, dishwasher tabs etc. for a week.

I think what bumps up our shopping bill is that we buy a lot of fresh meat and a lot of 'luxury' items.

We did cut it down from over £100 a week when we started shopping online and getting it delivered. Even with the delivery charge, we're still saving almost £100 per month. I'm trying to think of ways to cut it down more (other than starving the children of course ;) )

So, how much do you spend in a week, for how many people and what bumps up your grocery bill the most?

2 adults, 2 children (although one at 15 eats like an adult - adult elephant!:lmao: )
We spend about £85 a week. I tend to do very economical main meals - homemade bolognese, chilli, shepherd's pie, stews etc - during the week and then bump the bill up with treats and unhealthy snacks at the weekend :rolleyes1 .

Also the occasional DVD on special offer takes us over that amount.
We don't usually drink at home so no beer or wine to buy.

2 adults in our house and we spend £40-£50 each week. We try to buy some of the household stuff like washing powder at Costco as you can buy it in bulk.

i spend about £65 but then we have a couple of take-aways a week as well :confused3

I average between £85 to £95 per week on the weekly shop and thats buying all the cleaning materials etc. to feed 2 adults 1 teenager who eats like an adult and an 11 year old who eats like a child! I tend to have expensive weeks when the supermarket has a lot of offers like the buy 2 get one free or BOGOF etc. like they are on coffee at the moment. Have to nip in during the week to top up on milk and bread and other stuff than runs out (fruit mainly) and that usually adds upto another £10. Take aways and eating out are extra. So we are looking at over £100 per week.

Hi Joh !! At a rough guess we are around £90 a week, for me, DH and DS, who is 17, and eats like a horse !!

We do get odd luxuries, like wine, beer, etc. which we probably don't need (yes, we do!!) but that is our average bill. Again we have to top up on milk, bread etc. during the week though too.

There are two of us and I spend around £100 per week, but we eat a vast amount of fruit and veg and I shop a lot in M&S.

4 of us and we average about £80 a week which includes toiletries, cleaning stuff etc. But DH doesn't eat here 2 nights a week he takes a packed lunch :rotfl2: What saves a lot of money is making packed lunches, both DD's and DH take lunch and always use refillable bottles to have squash in instead of buying cartons! Also I always look at how much per 100g things are as sometimes it pays to buy the larger sizes but occasionally the smaller ones, I know silly but over the year it probably saves some money.

Oh did you know that Tesco and Asda will accept any coupons (as long as they don't have the store written on) whether you buy the goods or not, today I saved 50p not much I know but hey it was free :rotfl2:

About £90 a week for the two of us and three cats, who like the best! We do like the name brands for some foods and alcohol can bump up the price

Claire ;)

About £100 per week for the 2 of us. Tom is a vegan, so lots of fresh fruit and vegetables there. I love M&S goodies and wine and alcohol can bump up the price even more.

I spend about £30 -£35 per week for the 2 of us.

Im a HUGE fan of Costco - i always get things like my washing powder, cleaning products, shampoo etc there as because your buying in Bulk you save quite a bit! I also sometimes get there fresh meat as its really good quality and not a bad price! We probably spend about £60 a month in there.

Im also a big fan of a day trip to France! Both me and DH are wine drinkers - i dont like beer or spirits and DH drinks the some beer. We go over once a year and buy about £200 worth and that lasts most of the year as its so much cheaper than the UK! And with a company car and tesco clubcard deals it doesnt cost us a penny!

How much? to bl***y much!! about £80 a week, depends on what i have run out of, also i pop out in the week to replace butty stuff, and anything else i run out of....

We're the same. Spend a lot on fish as I try not too eat too much meat and M&S has the best selection. Also buy loads of veggies and salad stuff. All branded stuff I tend to buy from Waitrose as they stock the dogfood my ladies like...

About £40 a week for the 2 of us. :goodvibes

Our weekly ASDA bill various between £80 and £90 for me, DW, 18DD and 14DD.

Every so often DW also goes to Iceland to stock up on frozen stuff.

Hello Joh, Having just had my shopping delivered this morning i have spent £178 for everything thats needed for 3 adults. I'm hoping that this will go down as my DS will be moving out soon.
This should last a few weeks but will still have to go out to buy fresh bread, rolls, fruit & veg plus anything else i've forgotten.
I've found in the past that its better to make your own meals if you have the time as it's more expensive buying ready meals.
Buying larger packs of meat from supermarkets is another way then split the pack up to go in the freezer for later.

4 of us 2 Adults & 2 kids(16 & 13) (so 4 adults really!) I spend about £120 a week once I've added in popping out for extra bread and milk. It covers all our food as we al take packed lunches to work/school.

We spend around £40 - £50 a week for me, DBF & two cats.
The reason it gets to £50 is when DBF gets his beer which is 1 - 2 times a month.

About £150 to £175/week for 2 adults and 2 young children. I often need to stop to buy milk and bread during the week, too.

OK. i spend about £120.00/£140.00 per week for 4 of us. I cook from scratch every night with veg & fruit every day. we do not do a lot of takeaways and I do packed lunches for all of us everyday. so don't spend a lot elsewhere.

My dd10 came home from school today commenting that other kids were drolling over her fresh fruit salad. :thumbsup2

I sure do LOVE cooking! :cloud9:
