How much do you spend on clothes for work?

Just wondering about how much $$ people spend on clothes for work, whether it be 'street' clothes, uniforms, whatever. And, how often do you buy new clothes, every season? Where do you normally shop for your work 'fashions'?

Thanks for replying!

Mine are supplied, so I only have to buy shoes. I wear Rockports, only, so they cost me about $90 every 6 months, as I am on my feet for 7- 9 hours a day. Considering what others pay for clothes to wear to work, I consider myself pretty darn lucky!

I spend about $250 per year for uniforms. I buy them when I get my annual uniform allowance.

I like to buy a couple of "teaching" outfits every year. But I find them off the sale and clearance racks!!:D

My husband is in the army and gets around a 400.00 allowance for clothes every year. I work on the telephone at an answering service so noone sees me so we can wear jeans and t shirts everyday if we want. I have been buying a few new things lately though because I'm now 2 months preg so my clothes are starting not to fit anymore.

Too much. I try to buy two new suits/ dresses a month to keep my wardrobe updated.

not too much either. I can wear jeans / tops. If the class is getting observed I usually can wear khakis' or another type thing. I never have to wear a skirt/dress.. since I am always bending down/leaning over.. that would not be good.

Not as much as some, I think. I wear a lot of slacks at work and just put different tops with. So if I see a pair of pants or a few shirts every now and then that I like, I'll buy them. Being business casual, it is easy to find shirts that work with slack and jeans so I don't have to have two different wardrobes for home and work :)

I tend to buy in spurts at the end of a season, and then buy things that are classic and way marked down. My best deal recently was at JC Penney - I found a pair of black docker style pants, after the "additional discount" they were $2.18. Then I buy 3 or 4 pieces, usually tops, that are current fashion or style and then mix that with my basic stuff. I found that if I buy suits or pants that are very classically tailored I can wear them for several years and just rotate out the tops.

not much. I can wear jeans here at work. So my weekend clothes are pretty much the same as my work clothes.

I shop wherever I can find things at a decent price.

About 200.00/year I wear scrubs mostly at work so I tend to buy cute Disney ones that catch my eye. I shop mostly catalogs but I can occasionally find stuff for none work at Jcpenny or Gaylans.

we don't have a dress code, so i only spend money on clothes not specifically for work. i probably spend about $1200 a year on clothes, not counting shoes and accessories. :o

I buy a few pieces each season, I guess. When I buy work clothes I look for quality items that are well made, and for fashions that will hold up over time. I have some blazers and skirts that I've had for over 10 years, and I still wear them all the time.

My sister always gives me a hard time because I spend a lot on my clothes, but unlike her, I don't waste my time buying junk. I spend a long time looking at the fabric and how well its made, because I like my clothes to last a long time. As a result, they always do. :) I drive her crazy when we go shopping because it takes me forever to make a decision, whereas she is filling up the shopping cart with any old thing.

So, to answer your question, I probably spend about $500 a season on clothes.

Shoes and boots are a whole other story....... :p

Well my work is being a SAHM so I buy things that are comfortable and easy to wash! ;)
My wardrobe consists mostly of jeans/shorts and t-shirts/tanktops in the summer. Long Sleeved tees, turtlenecks, and sweaters in the winter.
I will buy a trendy piece or 2 each season, but mostly I like clean lines and basics. :)

I am like Snoopy though in that I LOVE shoes (boots and sandals mainly.)

Typically I buy like Snoopy...collecting quality pieces over time. I have some fabulous cashmere sweaters that get better every year. About $500 a season sounds about right to replace certain pieces and add others to the collection.

However...I've lost almost 50 lbs in the past year and am still losing weight. I need to dress for work and I've had to replace almost my entire winter wardrobe this year (including my winter coat and boots...who knew your feet would shrink too!).

Anyway, I've bought the bare minimum -- avoided buying suits, only separates, just the basics and had some stuff taken in when I could because I'm still losing weight. So far I've spent about $900 including all new underwear, hosiery, a new winter coat, and some new pumps and will probably have to buy some more things post Christmas depending on my size. I've been cruising some of the high-end consignment shops but there's not much there for office wear in my size...yet!

Now I have to buy some casual stuff for home wear like jeans and khakis. And then there will be spring/summer replacement wardrobe....

I know I should be so excited but it's really draining my patience (I hate shopping) and wallet! Oh well! The one good thing is at least this year I like some of the styles being sold. Thank heavens this didn't happen last year or I'd be sunk!

when i used to work i have to buy shoes and sock and a belt
the shirts and hats are provided
