Hey everyone,

What's the going rate these days to have someone babysit your kids for a few hours? Back in my day (this will definitely show my age) it was $2/hour. It's got to be way more than that now.

The person babysitting is the girl down the street. So far she's only been here for up to an hour while DD was sleeping. The max I'll have her here is 2 hours, and will usually only watch my daughter (I take my son with me). On occassion I'll have her watch my son as well. Both of my kids are very well behaved, and won't give her any trouble.

2/hr is about right!

Depends on her age....7-9th graders around here typically get $5 or $6 an hour....older high school...get $6 to $8 per hour....but some families shoot that scale to hell with paying $10 ..... Usually1 to 4 kids around here can get the same rate....

I pay our babysitter $10/hour. We have two boys 5 and 3.

When my kids were little about 8 or 9 years ago I paided $2.50 at the cheapest end....it went up dramatically over the past 5 yrs....I was using what my DD is now paid when she sits...

I work on a university campus, and we have a few wonderful college students in my department that watch Paul for us occasionally. We pay them $6 an hour. That's pretty much the going rate here.

I pay $4 or $5 an hour, but I have two kids, and I usually am asking someone in their late teens to watch (I feel I should pay them more cause of their gas money, etc).

We pay a college student $10 per hr. to watch our 2 children. I trust her completely, she's worth every penny.

it REALLY depends on where you live and who the babysitter is I think.
WE pay a base rate of $1/per hour per kid so thats $3/hour. If the house is clean when we get home ( not our mess cleaned up but theirs) we give them a few extra dollars if its a disaster we stick to the $3/hr

the sitter we have now usually takes home about $5/hr because shes really good :)

I am a babysitter. I'm 18. I babysit one little boy, who is now 2. The rate, I suppose, is $5 an hour. She nearly always rounds up though. I live just a few houses down the street from them too.

I take what they give me....

My family paid me and my friend 20 dollar each to watch 2 12 year old boys, one 9 year old girl and one 7 year old boy for like 4 hours. It was pretty good.

But then the lady down the street got wise that her husband was giving me twenties and she'd leave him checks to give me, one was for 8 bucks, their kids are terrors! Don't babysit for them anymore!

I charge $10 an hour. One couple I sit for Usualy gives me $80 for up to 4 hours.

$10/hour for 2 kids and our sitters our older teenagers with cars. Our regular one drops everything when we call! :teeth:

My DD (16) gets $5 to $10 depends on how many kids. She's babysitting now for one 2 1/2 yr old she will get about $7 an hour for her. We know this family really well, they are great people. :wizard:

I usually pay $5.00 an hour for DS9. But, if I'm gone 2 hours and 5 minutes, I still round up to 3 hours. If there's no mess left by the sitter, I tip $1 an hour.

From one family that I keep regularly, I get $7/hour for a 4 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. Ive been keeping them for about a year. William was the first diaper I ever changed! I always clean up everything, as to leave the house the same as when I got there. If I have to feed them, I clean up the kitchen and wash the dishes we used. I am allowed to help myself to any food/drinks. If it is a special occasion (NYE) then I get a little extra.
A couple of nights ago, I kept a 4 y/o, 2 y/o and another 4 y/o from a different family together. Both familys paid $25 for 6 hours or so. It was at night, so the kids went to bed after about two hours and I read/watched tv the rest of the time.
When asked a rate, I just say for them to do whatever they feel comfortable. I dont like telling someone how much to pay me, who knows if they would of given more :)
Ill be leaving for college next fall, so I will have to give up a lot of my jobs:(

we have a wonderful 6th grader that watches Sam on occassion. No major evenings out, just an hour or 2 here and there. Anyway, we give her about $5 an hour.
