How Much Do You Pack?

we always tend to overpack. better to have extra then to run out. we have bought all new luggage with wheels on the so the old pack mule, me, can have an easier time lugging it around. this trip we may actually pack less because we can do our laundy in our room thanks to our DVC purchase but honestly who really wants to deal with laundry on vacation anyway?

generally our rule is one suitcase per person and 2 overnight type bags for the 4 of us and our laptop.

When I go on vacation I pack way to much. I even pack clothing I have not worn in years just in case I wake up one morning and deceid I want to wear it. I'ts crazy but I just feel the need to pack as much of my closet as possible.

NOT ME (no way, I take too much) but I swear I recently read a trip report where a family of four (two little kids) stayed in a DVC resort and each took one outfit for the parks which she threw in the washer each night after they changed into their jammies. I was really surprised. Can't remember why exactly - if she always did that or if they were really cramped for luggage space.

Unfortunately, I am the other extreme. I am going to really try to mend my ways this year as we have a new member of the family to overpack for this trip.

We definitely over pack! For 2 adults and 2 children, we have 3 checked bags and 4 carry-ons. O.k, one of those carry-ons is a diaper bag, and the other is my camera equipment (a large slr camera and 2 lenses, tripod, etc). My problem is that we pack enough clothes to last the week, plus one extra change of clothes for our carry-ons. On our last trip, ds threw up for 2 days straight and the extra clothes came in handy!
I admire those of you who can just go with a couple of pieces of luggage.

How do you reseal the space bags on the way home?

Mine are the kind that have vents on one end and a ziploc-type zipper on the other. You put your stuff in, zip the top, roll the air out through the end vents, and they seal themselves some way or another. If you're staying somewhere that has a vacuum cleaner, it's a heck of a lot easier to suck the air out though.

We pack a tone of stuff because we drive and stay at the cabins so the car is right by the door. But a girl I work with will take one large back pack type bag for 8 days! She amazes me.
