How much did you spend on your dvc membership

I've been debating switching to monthly payments, but for the moment I'm in the annual wallet biopsy club!
I need to figure out how to make more money 😂. I calculated your dues even with the cheaper resorts at $8 per point and it’s almost my entire take home amount for the year. (Sorry, not yours Gggt’s eyes lol the 5,000 points lol)

I also need to figure out investments because right now I just threw all my money in Disney stock and it just kind of sits there lol

I think you meant GGGT, but I feel you!
I wish I could wrap my mind around getting a bunch more points and then renting to cover dues, but knowing my luck Disney would somehow eliminate renting, and I'd be stuck :O

Yes, I realized after I posted it and edited to add it lol 😂 it’s early I’m tired. I’m just looking forward to the dividend check Disney will give me in a couple weeks. One of these days maybe I will have enough in stocks that the dividends will pay my dues… for now the dividends only about $100 a year.
I’m trying to figure out this whole have your money make money thing on the money I squirrel away but as someone who grew up in a household with no money squirreled away it wasn’t something I was taught.

It will happen. For now just re-invest those dividends!

Definitely don't put it all in Disney :)
Lol yeah, I just know literally nothing about the market. My husband has a 401k account that auto invests and we have 529 accounts for the kids that auto invest but to actually make the investments myself I have no clue. It started off as a joke putting a bit in to just say that I “own part of Disney” and then it got to the point where I just kept putting it in there because the risk was low.

Sounds like you're doing all the right things. Now just wait :)

I'm always wishing I had invested in Apple and Starbucks and Amazon back in the day.
But at the time, it seemed crazy :)

Thanks, my mom taught me how to make my money stretch on daily needs bc she had to to get what we needed but never taught me what to do with the “extra” because there wasn’t ever any extra. Now that I’m older I still use the methods to stretch what I have the difference is just that I do end up with that extra. For awhile it sat in a regular savings account getting like .40 a month and I just couldn’t let it sit there like that anymore.

seeing these numbers and knowing how much dvc costs makes me thing maybe I should get out now while I still can....

and then I go back to viewing the broker sites to buy more points!

so what can you do!

Honestly my little Mitsubishi has almost 120k miles on it and it has needed no repairs just regular maintenance (except and AC fan because I live in the south and when the ac fan went out i was done for but that was a $50 part my husband plugged in himself lol)
I bought my husband a new 2002 GMC truck in 2001. He still has it and the mileage is bumping 400,000 miles. Same engine and no major mechanical issues.
She has been a great truck and even though he has the money to buy a new one-he hasn’t.

Ok. At first I resisted this thread because I wasn’t sure I even wanted to know the cold hard numbers but then I had to know.

1470 total points with purchase dates from 2009-2024, price per point ranging from 84$ to 310$.

A few lessons:

1) I wish we had been in a place financially to buy more points in 2009. 84$ per point for BCV but we had med school loans, were just starting out career wise, just gotten married. But daaaaang 84$.

2) buying 350 points direct spread over our 3 WDW resorts in spring 2021 was an emotional one and we don’t regret it. But dollars wise it was a lot. Worth it because FIL had just died and we wanted to start using the points immediately and not wait for resale. those points now mean MIL can go with us on some trips when she wants to, we can get a 2 br, and she isn’t in a hotel room in another building by herself but we all have our own space. We told her to consider herself a DVC member and she loves telling her friends that.

3) even though VGC was stupid expensive, I am so happy we bought that contract.

That is our exact fear. We are discussing this again, rent points for “free" vacations. There are some great deals out there.

Warren recommends VOO (Vanguard EFT) as a set and forget investment. Lowest expense ratio. SPY is another good choice but with a high expense ratio. My current favorite high risk is Rocket Lab. It is up over a $1 since June when I bought in. (I am an IT guy not an investment guy do your own research).
