I read the "whos your guide and who has the same" thread but I was wondering if anyone can tell me more about Guides?

How much do you actually deal w/ or talk to your guide? Is it just to buy more points or do people have more of a relationship?

Thanks for the help!

Guides are salesmen. Some stay in touch more than others, but their job is to make sales.

None, outside of the occasional brochure in the mail with the latest offer. I haven't actually spoken to my guide since I made the deposit on my contract 7 years ago. And that's the way it's supposed to be, IMO.

A guide's job is to sell contracts. Unless I want to do an add-on, I have no reason to speak to my guide.

We're on the west coast so we don't have too much contact with our guide in Orlando unless we're doing an add-on.

Ours contacted us sometime after the first couple of years to see if we were interesting in buying more. We went the road less travelled and bought all we needed (300) in the beginning and it has been the perfect amount for 8 years.

I only talk to my guide when I add-on, which apparently is a lot.

I took the tour of the VAKL rooms and he made a follow up call. I think that is the only time I've spoken with him.

I am thinking about DVC. When we were on our tour, I was under the imprssion that our guide would handle everything going forward. Our guide said that when we buy he/she would be calling us to make our ressie at BLT a month later. We also asked about DDP & he/she said that he/she would be our contact to set-up ADRs. I was quite impressed & remember commenting that it would be like having DVC concierge. Is this not the case, or can some guides do this? Now I'm starting to get really confused!

After my initial buy-in, I didn't speak with my guide unless I called her with a question (as a newbie). After that, I got a call from a new guide (my old guide left) and she has called me a couple of times over the past 4 months. Of course, the first time I spoke with her, I added 50 points. Then I just recently called her myself and added on 50 more. I'm sure I'll be talking to her again next year and maybe adding on yet again. Come on.....addon-itis!!!

Maybe they just meant that ADRs can be made through DVC? Which is true, but it's member services that you call for that, not the guide. I've never heard of a guide making ADRs for members.

I'm assuming the guide would be making your BLT reservation because of some special circumstance in your situation. That would be a one-time thing, as they don't deal with reservations, either. Purely sales.

And most of us don't use Member Services for ADRs - they open later. Might as well call Disney Dining.

I call him when I want to spend money.

I don't really want him calling me. I am not a fan of the "my guide loves me" view on here. I figure they don't love us, they love our cash LOL!

once for the tour, once when I decided to buy 6 months later and once 10 days ago to add on BCV points which still havent should up in my account yet!!!

which seems to be wayt to much...since I have decided to cut all of my blatant and obessive spending my 99.99% this year

I call him when I have a question. He is very good about getting back to me the same day. :thumbsup2

DW & I have spoken with him during the treatments for addonitis, and we always recieve a phone message in our rooms when we stay in The World. Twice I have gone to the SSR DVC center to see him just to say hello after his offer for such a thing in his phone messages. Both times we were treated coldly at the main desk with an attitude of disbeleif that we wanted to see him. Both times we were told he was tied up with others. The last time I suggested that we would wait until he was free, just to say hello as his phone message suggested. It was suggested that he would probably not be available for a very long time. They did not call him or check a schedule either time. It took two visits (because I'm slow) but I think the DCV counter is desinged to protect the guides from the public.

How stupid of me to try to see my guide personnally again after our initial sales meeting to let him see that we are indeed happy with our decision to by into DVC. I guess the add ons should tell the story on their own.

I doubt if I try again.

We are on our third guide in 9 years. I used to call them when I would see another member wearing a cool hat I have never seen before and ask them if they could find me any. They usually came through, and for free. My latest guide called me to introduce herself so I started asking her some questions about DVC issues and when she figured out I was not adding on she told me she had an appointment and had to go. I do not think she will get me any hats.

Wow....my guide is a very nice person and I talk to her several times a year. I've only been a member for 4 years, but have always felt she was only a phone call away. She calls me a couple of times a year at home to tell me about specials and everytime I stay in a DVC resort (4-6 trips a year) she leaves me a message on the phone welcoming me home. And when my daughter stays in a DVC resort (she's also on the contract) she too gets a phone call welcoming her home. I must have a real gem!
