How much contact do you have w/ your guide?

I am thinking about DVC. When we were on our tour, I was under the imprssion that our guide would handle everything going forward. Our guide said that when we buy he/she would be calling us to make our ressie at BLT a month later. We also asked about DDP & he/she said that he/she would be our contact to set-up ADRs. I was quite impressed & remember commenting that it would be like having DVC concierge. Is this not the case, or can some guides do this? Now I'm starting to get really confused!

Wow..that's impressive. But no, I think I have a good guide and the only time I ever dealt with him was about a purchase. I see guides as salsemen..that is it.

Wow....my guide is a very nice person and I talk to her several times a year. I've only been a member for 4 years, but have always felt she was only a phone call away. She calls me a couple of times a year at home to tell me about specials and everytime I stay in a DVC resort (4-6 trips a year) she leaves me a message on the phone welcoming me home. And when my daughter stays in a DVC resort (she's also on the contract) she too gets a phone call welcoming her home. I must have a real gem!

You do - trust me, you do. :)

I have a hard time getting a hold of my guide. When I was ready to buy DVC it took me four days to get a hold of him. When I finally did, he told me he'd be in the office the next day - and he wasn't. He took a three day weekend.

He will call me either the month before my trip to "Welcome" me home, or he'll call a few months afterwards. He's not very reliable at all. For my add-on, I'm going through The Timeshare Store. ;)

Lately, I have talked to my guide quite a bit but that is because I have been in the add on process since Feb (started a contract, changed it a few times and then added on a 2nd time).

I also contact him if I am hearing rumors about the prices/incentives, etc. to get clarification.

But, once my newest add on closes in a few weeks, I probably won't talk to him at all, except next Spring when I add on again.

None, outside of the occasional brochure in the mail with the latest offer. I haven't actually spoken to my guide since I made the deposit on my contract 7 years ago. And that's the way it's supposed to be, IMO.

A guide's job is to sell contracts. Unless I want to do an add-on, I have no reason to speak to my guide.

True. Since we keep doing add ons, I talk to our guide probably more than most people! :rotfl: I've never met the guy in person and he seems like an old friend.

I've seen my guide once (when we bought in 2000) and spoken to him twice since then (2001 for an add on and 2007 for another add on).

Now that my inital purchase and first and only add-on to date are done I haven't talked to my guide much. However, I haven't stayed at WDW since I purchased. She was helpful in me getting incentives (DPs for BLT that weren't available when I first did my original contract) and getting questions answered by VGC while I was waiting to start my purchase in March. So, I am happy with the level of contact. She has NOT contacted me about doing another add-on or newest incentives, but since neither of properties have opened yet that might have something to do with it! ;)

Thanks for all the responses! I was pretty sure it was a "just when you want to add" kind of thing but I had read a few posts where people would see the guides while in the world and such.

We met our guide at the dvc show and he had mentioned if we had any problems or questions he would be the one we were dealing w/ from that point on so I was just curious.

CMOORE185 - sorry about the hats!

DVCMike - i'm thinking you probably talk to your guide more than some family members!!! Very impressive! I'd love to have that many points:worship:

DW & I have spoken with him during the treatments for addonitis, and we always recieve a phone message in our rooms when we stay in The World. Twice I have gone to the SSR DVC center to see him just to say hello after his offer for such a thing in his phone messages. Both times we were treated coldly at the main desk with an attitude of disbeleif that we wanted to see him. Both times we were told he was tied up with others. The last time I suggested that we would wait until he was free, just to say hello as his phone message suggested. It was suggested that he would probably not be available for a very long time. They did not call him or check a schedule either time. It took two visits (because I'm slow) but I think the DCV counter is desinged to protect the guides from the public.

How stupid of me to try to see my guide personnally again after our initial sales meeting to let him see that we are indeed happy with our decision to by into DVC. I guess the add ons should tell the story on their own.

I doubt if I try again.

Your Guide probably doesn't work at the Preview Center. Some Guides have been transfered to other sales centers and some are Telesales Guides who work from home. Disney's policy is not to admit that Guides work from home, that's why the Cast Members at the Sales Center acted so funny.

Interesting; I had never heard of that before but I guess it makes sense that they would exist; lots of other companies (my employer included) have telecommuters. Not sure why Disney wouldn't want to admit it, but that could explain a lot!

..ok..so how do you get hired to be a teleguide?...

Ours sends all the typical mailings of offers and incentives - and calls once each vacation on site. More than I would expect from him frankly.

None, I haven't actually spoken to my guide since I made the deposit for initial purchase. I have received the occasional brochure in the mail with the latest offer. But figured that was just automated stuff sent from DVC. I would assume that the mailings just come from a bulk source and prints the appropriate name address and guides name on it. Just so it looks personalized.

I talked to my Guide on & off for quite sometime before I decided to buy DVC. I just wasn't sure if DVC was really for us because we love the CR and knew we would still want to stay there. Once we found out about BLT, we knew we were in business! My Guide was never pushy at any time. He would just tell me what deals were available & I could call & ask him questions. He always returned my calls promptly. Once we made our final decision, he did call us to make sure we received our paperwork & aksed if we had any questions. I have not booked a trip yet, so I can't say if he will leave me a message at my "home" or not. I don't expect to hear from him, unless he wants to tell us about new deals. Seeing we haven't used our DVC yet, I don't see us buying more points anytime soon. I feel like many others & think the Guides are sales people, even though he wasn't pushy.

I've talked to our guide several times since we initially purchased in October. We actually had 2 guides, a guide we were assigned to a few years back when we first looked at DVC and then the new guide we met w/ in August and purchased from. I finally had our guides switched to the new guide we bought from. He is wonderful and the sweetest person. He even helped us sign up for the BLT pre-view event next weekend.:goodvibes

We have never met our guide (we bought without ever seeing DVC). I did check the nametag of every guide we passed while we were there last week. I was hoping we would run into him along the way. I would like to meet him on our next rip though. I call him anytime I have a question and when we added on, but do not hear from him. We also did go through the models at SSR while there since we had not seen what we purchased. The guide that gave us our tour was not too thrilled with having to take her time to show them to us, since she knew we had already bought.

Our initial guide we spoke to a few times a year. They would leave us a message each time we were on vacation and sometimes I would call them if I had a question about the current offering.

I now have a new guide and hope we can continue a friendly professional relationship. They are all sales people but many of them are part of the DVC family so if you get to know them they are like us and love to share stories of their travels etc.

I talk to my guide more than most I guess. We had our "moments" when there were issues last year, but since then have become phone friends. Now that we are in the process of closing our GCV contract, I've talked to him nearly every day for a week, and several times last month as well.

In general, yes they are sales people, but I expect more from them because they are Disney salespeople I guess. I thoroughly enjoy having my guide and we understand each other and what the other expects, so everything is perfect. Now, if I could only make up my mind and have him give me accurate information..hmmm..(little bit of high maintenance humor ;))
