How much cash to give as a wedding gift?

We base it on our relationship with the couple. $50 is the minimum and we go up from there. However, if for some reason we could only afford less at that time, I would not feel bad about giving less.

I think $50 sounds fine. Going to a wedding on Saturday and my gift is a little under $60 with the tax included.

Talked to DH and he is good with going up on the amount. He said that he is out of touch with these things and what ever I think is good is fine with him. So, problem solved. Thanks for all the help.

We're going to a wedding tomorrow and giving a $50 Visa giftcard to them. It is one of DH's former employees. For a family member, we would give $100. Even though people register for mostly home items, most of the time they really want money. ;)

I got married in October of last year. Most people gave between $50-$100 - it didn't matter to me if they brought a gift or not, I was just happy that they were there to share in our special day.

I lost my job last year and I'm still haven't found a full time job. Sadly, our bank account amount is what would determine what we could afford to give as a gift right now.

Regardless of how much you give, have a wonderful time!

I would say 75-100.

I grew up in RI and know things are much more expensive up there and expectations are higher. If you know of a good place to get stuff cheaper I would get an item I knew was much more expensive most places and give that. For example in RI many years ago I found Pfaltzgraff China, which was wildly popular back then, at Christmas tree shopps. I know it still exists in NE although I dont know how the quality is now. The item was a $50 item that I got for $10 and it was an overstock not a secound. I also found many new things with the Tags still on at savers up in RI. I never give secounds or used items unless a friend is a collector but there are ways to make others feel like you spent alot of money while saavings quite a bit yourself. I have a gift closet for just these times. Expensive even name brand items I got on clearance that are generic enough that many people would like them as a gift or the base for a gift basket. They feel I care enough to get the best and I can afford to do so. My wallet is alot skinnier than my heart:laughing:

People register for the home items here for the shower-not so much for the wedding.... weddings are usually cash or check.
OP you are going to get such a wide range of answers based on where people live- I WISH we could all give 50.00 as a wedding gift and call it a day but around here 250.00 is about the average.

If you are coming to my wedding $200 would be good:goodvibes:rolleyes1

No truthfully it depends on how well you know the couple it could be anywhere from $50-$100

Wish I would have invited all you folks to my wedding. Most give a gift of about $25-30, and it was family only wedding.

Where the heck do you people get your jobs to be giving $100 or more gifts? I need a job like that.

Considering an average home costs about $500,000 here, you do need a job like that! ;)

We give $300 for weddings, more if it is a close relative, like a sibling. But I have always been to weddings in a catering hall. I actually do think it depends on where the event is and how close you are to the person.

Someone mentioned they gave a Wii for a present for a wedding and I love that! Great idea!!! We just gave one to my sister as a H.S. Graduation gift.

OP, I think you would be OK giving $100-$150. JMHO
