How much cash to bring?

Hi,

My family and I will be sailing on the 12/19 Wonder and I'm wondering how much money to do we need to bring along? We usually just charge everything to a credit card when we go on vacation.

everything on the ship goes on your room card--there is no cash used, i guess, until you check out i would assume you could pay with cash??? we just left everything on our credit card on file. if you take excursions, you might need cash but we used our cards there too, no worries

You'll want a little cash for things like tipping for room service (no charge slip to sign unless you buy sodas, alcohol, etc.) and tipping porters at the port if you plan on using their services.

If you plan on doing laundry, you'll need cash (change) for the machines. If you plan on buying postage on Castaway Cay to send postcards home, you'll need cash for that.

We were even able to put a little bit of charging privileges on our DD's card so that she could do a little shopping herself in the gift shops...

She enjoyed being independent like that

Also, you'll need to bring cash for shopping in Nassau, if you plan to purchase anything from street vendors

I brought $400 cash on my 4 day cruise on the Wonder. I came home with $285 of it. I spent $115 on tips, breakfast and lunch in the airport coming and going and a few souvenirs in Nassau.

I did, however, put over $500 on my credit card, but most of that was in the spa.

I am with you, we usually bring $100 per day for cash. If you use it great if not put it on your tab or take it home. (We bring a bit more if there is a casino,haha, and NEVER go home with any in our pockets!!)

Yeah, $100 per day is my rule of thumb but it really didn't apply this time. I only went over my limit because I spent about $300 in the spa. I'm a pushover for a sales pitch and I'll have to remember for my next cruise not to check any "areas of concern" on the forms in the spa. Then hopefully I won't be offered any products.

We charge everything to our room, my husband can not stand not having money in his pocket. But then when he has it it doesn't stay long. I figured this bill is going to be a big one! I would love to say I will bring stuff(drinks) on board to help ease the cost, but basically I am lazy. I run around my house everyday of the year getting people stuff and while I think of it work too!!!....I'll have to pay for someone to wait on me for the week. Like the Loreal add says........I'm Worth it!!!LOL

I never carry much cash because we charge everything and if I need cash it seems there is always a ATM around. So we got on the ship with only about $100, it wasn't enough and there is no ATM on the ship, and you can't get cash from guest services or anywhere. I needed cash at the Blue Lagoon excursion and at Freeport for hair braiding. So on the walk back to the ship from the Blue Lagoon we found an ATM, but I was a little worried when I could get no cash on the ship. I think as others have suggested $100 a day would be plenty.

I was surprised there are not ATMs on the ship too. Maybe the other lines have them so you can get extra to gamble, thats if your luck isn't great. I guess we are so lucky to have them every where, we are shocked when we cant get cash in a minute!!!! L

Another question if you don't mind, both my DH and I hate carrying a lot of cash around. But since, DH works for a bank and gets traveller's checks for free, would the ship be able to cash the checks for us if we needed the money?

Yes, you can cash Traveller's Checks onboard. Just stop by Guest Services on Deck 3.
