How much cash do you carry around?

hi there, on our last 3 trips, we have carried a small amount of cash, a small of amount of travellers cheques, and mainly used mastercard...i put a large sum on it before we left...i use my mastercard for everything...in the last 4years, i have bought my tickets in to the parks with my airmiles i collected...so close to a 3000 dollar benefit for me...:cool1: ...the trick with visa/mastercard is to always pay it off in full each month so no interest charges of course...if we were to lose it, it would be easy to cancel and get a new one so my trip wouldnt be ruined, plus it for me i have my travellers/health insurance thru it, plus it doubles almost ALL warrenties on everything(and if you lose or have something stolen, it will also cover this-but never have never needed to use it myself)...there are many benefits for using credit cards, but for me, it comes down to convienance and peace of mind...have an awesome trip :banana:

me, dh, dd ::MinnieMo - 17, ds:mickeyjum -almost 15, and dd:tinker: -12
By the time i was 13, i had visited DL about 8 times (not bad for living in bc,canada) but then didnt get back to disney again until i was 35 and this was a first time experience for my dh and kids...

Hi!!
I read through most of the suggestions, and I do what alot of people seem to be doing, just in a little different way. I know you said you were leaving in about 4 days, so maybe this would help with another trip, or somebody elses that doesnt leave for a few more months.

We get a gift card, put all the money we plan to spend on the gift card on it before we leave (at the Disney Store), that way I dont have to carry around cash/cc/etc. Once I start planning our vacation, I start putting $25 a week (more if I can afford it) on a gift card at my local disney store (the one I work in!! as of Friday I had $300 on my card, and we still have 3 1/2 months!!), that way, I will have a few hunderd dollars saved up ready to go for food and souvies. Before we leave, I will also get $50-100 disney dollars from my store to take for the stands that dont take cards. That way, once we get to DLR, that is one less line I need to stand in!!

We just did Vegas, LA, Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Disneyland and Disneys California Adventure.

We thought travelers checks would be a safe bet.

Many hotels and restaurants would not take them in CA and around Disneyland!! They said some fake ones were going around.

Leave the credit cards and debit cards back in the room in the safe and charge everything back to your room. Have your souvenirs delivered back to the room too. Then just charge everything one time when you check out! Bring cash for food, or charge it back to your room if you can! :thumbsup2

I went on to the Disney website and see that I can purchase the gift cards ahead of time online and then pick them up at the Will Call booth once I get to the park. I think I like that idea the best. So I can do a little cash, some gift cards, and then leftovers on my debit card for extras outside the park. :cheer2: :cheer2: A plan! A plan!:cheer2: :cheer2:

As for the pennies, you should be able to get a roll of them at most stores at the check out counter. A roll equals 50 pennies if I remember from way back yonder during my cashiering days. Little quick shops that are around the park should have lots of rolleds coin I would think.

We're staying off property so I don't think I would be able to take advantage of that option. That would have been a nice though! Another good reason to stay on property one day...:thumbsup2

A roll of pennies? That means you are going to need 3 rolls of quarters :eek: I'm too out of shape to be lifting weights all day! ;)

Well they don't have to do the squashy thing with all the pennies Sy. Silly silly Sy. Now say that 10 times really fast: "Silly silly Sy..." :rotfl:

Coming from Australia- we won't have any pennies and quarters... but my kids are desperate to do the "penny squash thing" Any suggestions on how I can accumulate some (rather quickly) after we arrive???

You can ask for change at one of the shops (that's what we did). Just explain and they will try and get you the shiniest pennies they have :thumbsup2 We found out the hard way that Canadian pennies do not work in the penny press machines - no matter how shiny they are. Put them in, used American quarters, and there is a magnet in there that the Canadian pennies stuck to :scared1: Who knew????!
