How much are you willing to sacrifice....

My kids can tell when I've booked our resort, ordered our tickets, and grabbed plane tickets for WDW. That's when the Stop & Shop brand of EVERYTHING starts showing up in our cupboards, and we start having "Meatless Tuesdays".

Years ago when my children were toddlers, I read an article about family that put off some remodeling projects to go on ski trips. One sentence caught my eye. It went something like this. We believe that when our children are grown that they will remember going on vacations more than the year we re-did the bathroom.
It does come down to a matter of priorities (like a previous poster stated.) One of our priorities was to have multiple family vacations at WDW. My 3 children are all in their 20's now and they really enjoyed the trips. We still talk about them - none of them are as "Disney crazed" as their mom but it could still happen to them - they are young yet!

Hey all! I couldn't agree more with your posts about "doing" not "having" BUT, I have to share a story with you. There is a family in my school with 6 children. They are children who are not properly bathed or cared for. Their clothes are ratty, their shoes ragged, and we've even had them come to school without underwear on.

But guess what they do? Go to Disneyworld every year. Now, those are priorities that are NOT straight. This is an instance where you should "have" before you "do."

Sad, but true.

My husband and I decided to move to FL so we could go to WDW whenever we wanted! I know we'd be making more money in the state we used to live in, but our quality of life has improved drastically since I can get my Disney fix whenever I need it (which is a lot!) Plus, now we can actually use our vacation time to go other places (like we're going to DL in March!)

We've been hit with 3 floods in our lives, two different homes, two different rivers, and we lost material things each time. We invest in experiences now as they will last as long as we have a few functional brain cells left. I could have bought a new economy car for what I paid for our '04 trip with us, my 78 yr old Mom, three kids, SIL, son's girlfriend and granddaughter, but that experience was, and still is, priceless. You can't take things out of this life.

So well put!!!

Life is too short to sacrifice anything for anywhere. We have had lots of sadness in a 5 year span. It teaches you a lot about living....real living. If you can't always go to WDW or as often as you would like to, that is ok too. WDW is fun, but is is not the end all and be all of memory making. living is in the day to day. I feel life is too short for seconds, hand me downs, cheap food and tinny cars. Vacations are the cherry on the cake, but living well is every day. My home and family and having quailty things are priority.

For instance, what if you had to decide between 2 different cars. One more expensive than the other. The least expensive car cost less due to not having certain safety features and not being built as well as the more expensive car. you choose the cheaper of the two and decide to put the difference to your WDW vacation in 8 months. Before you get to go on your vacation you get into an accident and are injured or die. What would have saved you is the anti lock breaks and the On star and the side curtain airbags...but you did not have them because you wanted to go to WDW.

So my answer is we don't sacrifice anything....At this point we are able to vacation 6-8 times per year. It has not always been this way, but that was ok too. Vacations do not change your life. What does change your life is to sacrifice for a better life. If you do that then you will not have to sacrifice anything to go to WDW.

My DH and I took every penny we had saved and every penny we were earing and put it into our business. We were both working work a day jobs and knew there was a better life. We took that money and made a better life for us by starting our own business. We were not young when we did this but we were tired (my DH was 42 at the time he is now 47). We could have taken that money and gone to WDW, Europe...anywhere. Instead we invested in us and took baby steps to financial freedom. It took about two years. Now we can go whenever we want to without asking "permission" or worrying about money.

I sacrifice going out to eat. I need to lose weight anyways so not going out to eat will help both ways. Also, we are putting off renovating the whole house. I could get the nursery (no i'm not pregnant again) and new carpet done with the disney money but oh well.
