How much are you interested in the GCV?

I just read a poll about adding on at Hawaii, so I thought I'd do one for GCV.

Where does your interest rank for the GCV?

Doesn't make sense for us to buy there, but it's a nice option to have on occasion. For Pacific time zone folks I would think it would be a great opportunity!

I have stayed ay the Grand Californian with my wife, daughter, and grandchildren. The Hotel is wonderful and beautifully themed.

Of equal importance is the fact that for grandparents and little ones, the size of Disneyland is way more appropriate than is WDW. No one gets overly tired since a five or ten minute walk gets you back to your room.

I also like the fact that it opens up the Western U.S. for us since the price of airline tickets and the availability of direct flights from Milwaukee is about the same to LA as it is to Orlando.

This will be my favorite DVC property!

I was originally planning on getting enough points to stay in a 1BR for 5 days (Sun-Thurs), but now we are thinking that we will get enough to stay in a 2BR instead. I think these points are going to sell out quickly, so I'd rather start with more, than less. I'll buy them as several small contracts, so I could sell some later if I found I'd overbought for our needs.

I plan on doing an add on and can't wait for the GCV to be completed. I'm hoping sales don't start until after June '08. That will free up some additional cash for me.

I voted I would add on a small contract, but I am not 100% certain we will be able to afford to do so before they were sold out.. but Hawaii also excites me. . it will be interested to see what the point requirements at each will be.

We go to DL every other year in conjunction with our Palm Desert week. The cost of GC on cash is high enough that we will evaluate enough points for our every other year trip. It needs to be a good deal with a five trip payback or we will likely stay with paying cash.

Given the small size of the GCV, I am seriously considering a 50 point contract there. I think the home resort advantage would be EXTREMELY important. I would like to take a trip every two to three years as my DH is enamored with California.

DH and I were excited about the possibility of a GCV DVC, but were not getting any definitive answers about whether this was going to be a go any time soon. When we were at SSR in July we toured the AKV model units and were impressed! We met with our guide and in August, added on 125 points at AKV. Wouldn't you know, that a month later the GCV DVC was announced. I asked DH if he regretted adding on at AKV and he said he was very happy with that decision, as am I. I certainly hope we can get in at the GCV at the 7 month window, but I don't know. We can only hope they'll add even more DVC units at the DLR!!

We'll get enough add on points for overnight, and weekend visits a few times a year. The main reason to get the 11 month window. Once the second DVC there is announced, we might sell the GC DVC points for the other location, but not if it is in GardenWalk. Only if it is on DLR property.

We really don't need any more points, and my husband wants all of our points to be at WDW, anyway. But I'm very excited about GCV, and we will definitely stay there every few years if we can get in.

Interesting poll . Thus far, with 80 votes in, nearly 69% are NOT planning on adding-on at GCV.

Being on the west-coast, I was SURE I would do a GCV add-on, but now that Ko Olina's been announced... no way. I'm saving my pennies for Hawaii!

Possibly true. My prediction is it will have the highest maintenance fees of any other DVC resort, assuming that property taxes are included.

We own a Marriott in Palm Desert, and we have to pay the property taxes directly to the state of California, twice a year. State taxes are not included in part of the Marriott's timeshare's dues. Don't know if it will be the same for GCV.

Wonder if that's a California thing, and DVC owners will have to pay California property taxes directly to California, and not as part of their dues.

Although a little you made me think of something. Over on the Hawaii threads folks (including me) are discussing how high the point costs are going to have to be since you know its Hawaii, and real estate is a premium in that premier location. However in CA especially so cal where Disneyland is located real estate is a premium so I wonder if the points needed to stay in Cali will be significantly or noticeably higher than FL? ? ?

I agree- that's one reason why we've decided to buy more than we had originally planned. Mainly I just want to make sure I have as many points as I will need (because it's going to be hard to get them once they are sold out), but also because I don't think I'll have any problem selling off a small contract if I find I've bought too many.

I don't think so (but this may be wishful thinking on my part). I think DVC is going to want to make the first DL property sucessful, so I don't think they will go very far beyond the current points structure. They also have more competition at DL than at WDW (two other timeshares are opening in 2008/2009 that are within walking distance), so they can't have too much of a mark-up.
