How much are tix for your DC's dance recital?

This is our first year doing dance and the tix are either $24 or $26 each, I can't remember off hand. When I signed up, I was thinking it was a great alternative to gymnastics $$ wise!! Now I realize I was really wrong about that! Between the $100+ costume she will wear ONCE and the tickets, I think dance is more $$$ in the end. So just curious how much the tickets are for everyone else. Oh and I forgot the $40 pictures! I think I'm going to just take her to Sears and do the $7.99 package in her outfit the more I think about it!

Our dance studio uses a local high school auditorium. Recital tix are $12 each, costume $75 to $125 each, DVD of the performance $35 (they do not allow photography or video during the show). There are photo packages that start at $40, but we go to portrait innovations for their $9.99 deal. With both girls in dance this year it is going to cost us about $325 for a few photos and the recital Now that I look at this, I think I need to have my head examined.

My DD's do get a lot of mileage out of the costumes. They and their friends wear all of them several times a week. DD8 even has a ballet costume from 4 years ago that still fits- the leotard part is really stretchy.

DD's recital is in a very nice auditorium at our local ampitheater/concert hall. We pay a $35 show fee and can invite as many people as we would like. Pictures were $35 per costume...costumes ran me about $150 this year for both Gymnastics and Ballet plus an opening number outfit. What does drive me nuts is the seating at the recital....the kids have to be there at 2:30pm...but if you are not there super early then all the "good" seats are gone...lots of saving seats....very frustrating.

Are any of you allowed to go backstage to help your DD change costumes??? We aren't allowed backstage and my DD has to change 3 times this year. I would really like to be there to help her and keep her costumes organized.

$0 My DD's dance studio does not do recitals and she is thrilled. Their last class is their recital. Family members can attend that.

Wow, I guess ours are a bargain at only $10. The recital is 2 nights, half the dance school one night and other half the second night, and my always seem to get split up the last few years. However, you only have to pay for one recital, and you can get tickets for both shows if your daughters are in both.

This is DD's 5th year at her dance school and last. We only stayed this year so she could receive her 5 year trophy.

The recital is only 1 month away and we still don't know the exact date she will dance. The week yes, but I would like to request the day of the recital off from work and still don't know it.

$10.00 for tickets, $80.00 for costume, $10.00 to appear in the program, $60.00 for pictures (appr) , $50.00 for DVD. The recital is held at a local high school auditorium. This dance place is so disorganized it drives me nuts.

DD already takes gymnastics at the new school near our house and will start hip hop there in the fall. Its more of a competition place so no recitals. I know it will be tons more if she goes the competion route but at 6 yo she is just having fun with it for now.

$20 per ticket here. What really gets me, is that if my DD's want to come out after their dance and watch the rest of the show, they also need a ticket! I find that crazy since they are part of the show. Everyone age two and up must have a ticket, even if they are going to sit on mom's lap.

Pictures start at $50 per package and siblings must be in their own picture. No doubling up.

DVD is $45. Costumes are $110.

Anyone's daughter on their dance school's competitive team? Talk about bucks!!! This year was supposed to be our "give team a try" year, and DD is so in love with being on the team and the competitions that I think I would almost literally break her heart if I pulled the plug. I had pretty much prepared myself for the tuition, costume fees and competition fees, but I swear, there for a while every time I turned around, I owed them $200! Required makeup, jewelry, sleep-overs, intensives, pictures etc, etc, etc!

As for the recital, ours costs around $18 and is held at a high school auditorium. It is a VERY nice production, so I really don't mind the cost of the tickets. You can get a free ticket if you volunteer to chaperone, so I will do that for one of the shows this year since as a team member, DD is required to be in both. But of course with the ticket price comes the flower sale, DVD, celebratory dinner afterwards.

The only reason I continue on with this craziness (because somehow I doubt I have the next Anna Pavlova on my hands), is that it is great exercise, she LOVES feeling a part of the team, her self-esteem has shot through the roof, and I LOVE all the glitter, costumes, and especially the dancing. DD is sure lucky I love it!

Wow, some of the ticket prices seem really high to me.

Our tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door and the recital is held our local University's Performing Arts Center that is really very nice.

Costumes this year were about $150 total for 3 separate costumes.

Recital DVD is $30. We also can't record during the performance.

Not sure what the pictures will cost yet, but usually I spend about $20 on them.

My DD Dances & monthly it cost $200 for the program $50 for custom. Our Recital is this Saturday and our tixs are only $5 but its at the local high school

Well fortunately we can videotape, so I'm happy about that after seeing many of you have to pay for a DVD.

Ours is also at a local University in their performing arts center. The seating is assigned, there is a lottery for the tickets. I have heard that most of the dance schools around here you have to get up in the wee hours of the morning and wait in line to get tickets. Obviously front of the line gets the best seats! Some people camp out the night before, crazy!

Now do all of you buy the tickets for family/friends that want to come, or do you pay for them youself?

I think she will be wearing her recital costume for Halloween!

She has 7 costumes this year I've already spent over $100 on pictures and they've only taken photos of 3 costumes. DD LOVES team, so I've just resigned myself to the fact that this will be her...and my...life until she graduates.

As for the original topic, our recital is free. We pay a $25 recital fee at the beginning of the year to hold the venue but nothing to attend.

My daughter has not danced at a studio for a couple of years, but when she did it was about $8 per ticket at the local university auditorium. We did what others have posted, take pics at JCP with the $9.99 package. My daughter is taking a ballet class this year through our church and the recital is in the hall at church so free, and the girls are all wearing the leoatard we purchased at the beginning of the classes for $30.

My DD does competitive cheerleading now and that is a lot of $$ on competitions. We went to one last week and it was $15 per adult to get in and kids 6 and up were $10. Fortunately, it was local and DH and DS decided to stay home. On top of that I had to pay $45 to have DD in the competition. The fee was based on how high you placed at one of the qualifying competitions earlier in the year. If they had placed lower in some of their competitions it would have been a lot more.

We did one competition in March that was $135 per girl to compete. At least it was free for spectators. I added up what we are spending on competitive cheer and it is pushing $3,000 per year.

Recital tickets are $10 and each family with one child in the recital has to purchase 6 tickets. If you have multiple children in the recital, you have to purchase 9 tickets. Recital is not mandatory. My older daughter danced at the school for two years without doing the recital before she decided to do it for the first time last year.

As for other costs - there's a mandatory list of make-up the dancer needs that was another $60 to fill, but we don't have to replace anything in her kit yet so won't have to pay that again this year.

All dancers get their photos taken for the program book. You do not have to purchase the pictures or the program book ($24) or place an ad in the book so that's an expense that can be avoided entirely!

A program DVD runs another $40 and of course you cannot record at the recital...but you can at the dress rehearsal.

My older daughter is in three dances this year - two of which she needed costumes for. We pay a $35/costume deposit fee ($70) and the balance later in the year. This year I only had like an $84 balance on the two costumes so in the scheme of things, they're not overly pricey. That also includes the cost of tights with the costume. Shoes would be additional if your child doesn't have the right color/style for their performance. Again, we got lucky - she had what she needed for this year's already.

The kids do a full dress rehearsal and two nights of recital. A few weeks later they typically do performances at a local amusement park - so really, four wearings of their recital costumes. Last year DD's tap number was a luau inspired piece so her costume had a grass skirt and lei. She picked in June what she wanted to be for Halloween. Between all the Halloween parades, parties and Halloween weekends at a local amusement park, that is one very worn costume! Plus she still uses the leotard for dance class occassionally.

My younger DD is 4 and is not doing the recital. She said she would be scared to go out on the stage. When that much $$ is involved, I believe her!

We don't have a recital but a showcase. Tix are $10. The showcase is one hour and each class dances one song in their regular dance class attire. Last year was our first year and I was very impressed with how well it was run and how quick it was.

Our first studio did a recital every other year. The year dd would have been in it, I planned our Disney vacation that week. I didn't even think to ask the date of the recital. It was 3 weeks AFTER the last class. I was appalled at the cost of the costume, pictures, tickets, dvd, etc...I'm glad we missed it.
