How might the Christmas Day possible terrorist attack change domestic air travel?

Thanks for posting this! :goodvibes When I said exactly the same a few posts earlier, someone seemed to think my comment was outrageous. :confused3

I was the only one who responded to it, and I was agreeing with you.

If it was a problem in internet communications, picture us having a conversation, you said something very right, and I said "seriously!", as in "yeah, seriously true!" That's what I was saying. I agree.

Sorry! I thought it meant "seriously, how can you say that?" :goodvibes Thanks for clearing this up! :goodvibes

I think there should be a push to check luggage. It would speed up the security checkpoints if they didn't have to go through so much luggage.

Well, the latest is that Transport Canada is now prohibiting any carry-on on flights to the U.S. or International flights that connect through the U.S. with these exceptions:

"Diaper bags and other child-care items are allowed, as are medical devices, including medication, asthma inhalers and EPI pens. Small purses, cameras, musical instruments and laptop bags are permitted but will mean a longer trip through security. "

I spent a long time finding a camera bag to haul my equipment and still have room for some personal items... and now I find that I probably won't be able to use it on my next trip into the States. My fear now is that they'll extend this prohibition to other destinations. I don't have the next trip to the States planned yet but I am going to the UK in a month. If this measure is expanded to include other countries, I will be trying to find an old camera bag that is just that...only a camera bag. Guess the laptop is staying behind.

And I hope medication includes aspirin, tylenol and advil!

I think everyone is imagining the worst case senario, the first day the new security measures were put in place it was stated they would be re evaluated, the regulations have been eased up and now it is going to be up to the Captain of the plane, on Transport Canadas own website it states quite clearly that these restrictions are, at this point only TEMPORARY.

Oh good.

I realized after I saw your post that I've been using that word a lot recently, and it might not be coming across correctly. Have decided to use "absolutely!" instead. So thank you, too!

Where does it say you couldn't bring your camera bag onboard, even with extra stuff in it? I think you'd just have to prepare to have time for it to be searched if necessary.

It doesn't...it also doesn't say you can. The problem right now isn't that we can't do this or we can't do that... it's that nobody actually has told us what EXACTLY we can't do. If that makse any sense.

I know I can bring a camera as carry on but my camera consists of a body, two lenses, a flash, two batteries and lots of memory cards. So, consequently, my camera bag is the size of a backpack. Now, what they're saying is all rolled luggage AND backpacks must be checked. Small purses and small backpacks are ok. SO, the question that has yet to be answered is ... how small is small? Give us dimensions and we'll adapt.

Is small, the size of the "personal item"?

And if I bring a backpack that's ok, and I have room, can I put change of underwear, wetnaps and other stuff I usually carry on board?

If they could clarify some statements, it would help enormously. I can adapt and prepare if I know the answers.
