The website shows 3 yrs worth of points...but I thought we could only borrow 1 yr ahead.
Can I make a 2007 ressie using 2007, borrowing 2008, and borrowing a couple points from 2009?
just curious.

Nope. Sorry

3 Years = Bank 2006, Use 2007, Borrow 2008 ;)

I do the bank, use, and borrow method too! Doing so allows my 185 pts to grow to 555 pts but of course I can only go every 3 years this way. In addition, I'm paying yearly dues for something that I only use every 3 years.

Humm... perhaps I need to reconsider this method once we become empty nesters but for now it is nice to have a 2 week vacation in a 2-bdrm suite for family of 4.

They show that because you can book a disney cruise 2 years ahead so if you use those points thay show for the 3rd year your really using then only one year in advance. check out what is says when you expand the box for those points it will tell you the exact rule.

You may borrow only from the Use Year following the date of the reservation you are making. Borrowing can only be done when actually making a reservation.

If you have a June Use Year and want to make a reservation for August, 2007 you could borrow from your June, 2008 Use Year if necessary for that stay (at your home resort) and you could call today to make the reservation. For any date in August, 2007 you would be able to use points banked from your June, 2006 Use Year, points from your June,07 UY and points borrowed from your June,08 UY.

You could NOT borrow from your 2008 UY for a reservation prior to June 1, 2007. You COULD borrow from your 2007 UY for a trip prior to June 1, 2007. You cannot borrow from you 2009 UY until making a reservation for a stay after June 1, 2008 ... and that reservation cannot be made until after July 1, 2007 and only for your home resort.

Fo a cruise, you must have access to the points to pay for it. For those situations now where you are actually into your second use year for the cruise, you have the choice of paying during the current use year or the next by banking and borrowing. Otherwise points options generally require you to pay for them with points that are in the use year of the trip though you can bank or borrow to get points to the right place. This is one of the issues for those that have multiple independent contracts, all points must be in one contract to pay for the trip.

ok, I am lost. I am looking at booking a cruise for Sept 2007.

ok...my contract is 200 points, feb use year.

I have 127 points banked from 2006
I have 100 points for 2007 (used some already)
I have 200 points for 2008 and on.

I am going to use the 127 points for May 2007. so that leaves me 100 points from Feb 2007 UY.

can I borrow 200 points from 2008 AND 100 points from 2009????? that is my question. I want 400 points to use for Sept 2007 cruise. is this possible??
thanks.

I emailed MS and asked since I needed to know the actual points needed for the cruise anyway. :)

For a cruise in September, 2007 you will be in your 2007 Use Year. You may use points banked from your Feb06 (current) Use Year, points from your Feb07 Use Year and may borrow from your Feb08 UY. You would not have access to your 2009 points for a trip during your 2007 Use Year.

If you don't have access to enough points using banking/borrowing, your other option would be to try have enough points transferred into your account to complete your cruise reservation.

Good luck! :)

thanks...that helped. I will look the shorter cruises and maybe we can swing that. ;)

You can also combine points and cash for the cruise- paying for some passengers using points and others using cash. Just another option for consideration.

that is another good option we are now thinking about. It still saves us a ton of money.

one more question: can you book a lower category with points and then pay to upgrade to the higher caterory???

I would like to know the answer to this one also.

can you book a lower category with points and then pay to upgrade to a higher caterory and if so do you have to go through members services. When I bought they said you could do the combo about paying, but I wasn't sure how they figure out the cost difference.

Thanks in advance about the answers.

I'm sure many on the cruise board will know better but I'm told you can pay the difference between rack rate from what you have to the higher category if available. But it's not a way to get a cheap upgrade.
