How many trips to WDW before you bought DVC?

Uno! Call us a bit impulsive, but after our very first visit ever AKL May 2002on a deluxe plan at ages 32 and 35) we knew we had found a place we loved--even better than some of the exotic and fabulous locales we'd traveled to before. As such, we purchased BCV sight unseen upon our return home. We've been back nine times since and can't get enough! We purchased more BCV points and a few at HH too!

Next visit BCV nine glorious nights 10/22 through 10/31!

Then it's Christmas at the World!

Four, plus a business convention or two.... and with the kids getting into prime Disney ages, we took the plunge... I'd never heard of DVC until a taxi driver pointed out BWV to us, on our way to the Dolphin... We signed up, on our next trip... We've added-on since.

Our first family trip was a cash ressie at OKW. We loved it, and wondered how we'd ever stay in a hotel room again. On our second trip, at CSR, we bought at SSR. Next trip is a GV at SSR!

It took me 10 trips over the course of 22 years to buy into it. I was actually on my 11th trip just after I found out that we passed ROFR.

I should add I am 27 so it really was about 2-3 years of thinking harder about it before we bought.

18 times. I just bought in after my first trip to BWV this May. I was such a Poly addict I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. Plus the convenience of being on the monorail to the MK when my kids were small was so great. I still love the atmosphere at the Poly, but the kids are bigger and we need more room to spread out, plus we spend more time at Epcot now, so we decided to check out BWV by renting points. Instantly hooked!

I can't really say I regret not buying in sooner, because the whole Poly/Monorail/MK accessibility phase was very enjoyable. But it's run it's course, and it's time to move on. With what I was spending at the Poly going 3 times a year (even WITH AP rates) I am getting a much better deal financially in the long run with DVC for much larger accomodations.

One.
We took my parents and brother on the "Once in a Lifetime trip" during 2002 Salute to Heroes. Stayed at ASMo.

My mom took the tour, she tried to get us to join her but we laughed at her. After all, it's a timeshare.

Well, we fell in love with WDW and knew it was a place we would want to vacation again and again.

I did the research, crunched the numbers, and a few months later we bought in at BCV.

Loved our first trip home so much, I decided we would need more points. So two months after that trip home we added on at SSR.

8 for DH & I. 6 onsite - 3 dvc properties. OUCH that hurts to think about. We actually looked into back in 1994 but thought we couldn't afford it. Little did we know how much we couldn't afford NOT to. (lol).

Two.
I wanted to buy into DVC sight unseen...just by watching the videos...before I had even gone to WDW. I knew I'd love it and I was right. Our first trip was to the Yacht Club in May 2003 and when we returned for a second trip in less than a year, we knew we were DW addicts and weren't going to want to keep shelling out for a hotel room. Also, we are 5 in our family, and that keeps our hotel options to a minimum...we're always looking at a deluxe that can sleep 5. So our second trip was a lackluster stay at the Swan and that along with a bunch of "I told you so" looks to DH over the week, I was an owner at SSR before my second trip was over. My only regret is that I didn't buy in 2003 when I first looked into DVC because then I'd own at the BCV and I might love that location just a teeny bit more.

1 trip in 2001 paid for staying at the Port Orleans, a golf tourney & then we made an impulse purchase before even seeing the places - we are going for our 2nd trip in late Sep of this year - staying at AKL & paying for it.

Can't wait to go back & stay at the BCV

Two trips before DVC was developed. Trip in 1982 on a split stay between Contemporary and Poly. Went again in 1990 (stayed off property) with DH on business trip. Another trip in 2000 (stayed at Marriott on SIL's timeshare). That's when we discovered DVC while walking through the parks. Made an apointment, took the tour, went home to think about it. About a week later, we purchased. DH is a banker and a planner and NEVER does anything impulsively.

Well, after our initial purchase of 150 points, we added on another 100, then another 100. Yep, we had caught the "addonitis" bug.

Well ... we may have had 10 visits to WDW before buying ... but we bought after only 1 year of having our employer say, "No more Yacht Club ... would you like to stay at the All Star?"

Say it with me, "I don't think so!" :teeth:

DH and I were going to buy a diesel pickup to pull our travel trailer with. We have a Tahoe that is fine for flat pulling but not the mountains. We decided to put the same money into DVC. It'll be around for 30 some odd years. I don't think the p/u would have lasted that long!

We went to WDW in 1994, staying at AS sports. Met up with someone from the Chicago area that worked for an airline and said that they decided to pop down for a weekend in a studio. They suggested that, since it was going to rain the next day, we sign up for the tour. That did it ... We were hooked (and about $15k poorer)!
Incidentally, I've used the same ploy of "if it says it's going to rain, take the tour" myself with some success.

I had visited WDW 3 times when I decided DVC was for my family. The first two trips were immediately following (1999) and 1 year after (2000) a separation. Both were with extended family staying off site, way off site.

Then I met the perfect man and we were married July 29, 2003 at the Wedding Pavillion. We stayed in a two bedroom at BWV. I was hooked. So was my new husband, however it just wasn't the right time.

So almost a year later I received a nice bonus from my work and put it down on 150 points at SSR. It ment making some lifestyle changes to fit the payments into my budget/savings, but we are so looking forward to our first trip home to SSR in December.

This was my husband 1st anniversary gift, what better paper to give someone than a deed to DVC. So in 8 years when this is paid off, well I plan on starting to plan my 10 year vow renewal at WDW.princess:

Congratulations, and blessings on finding "the right one!" Thanks for sharing such a wonderful and heartwarming personal story!!

Two.

DH and I went last year (in a combo trip to Universal), and then came back again this year for our honeymoon.

I noticed the DVC carts and was intrigued, but DH had some... preconceived notions about timeshares. When we finally talked to the cart-guy at DTD and DH learned that we'd get two free Fast Passes each and that DVC would provide transportation to the presentation, DH agreed to go.

Being the cautious types, we had to come home and do some investigating (which is what led us to this board).

And the rest, as they say, is history. Magical beginnings result in happy endings!!

:earseek: It took 2 trips to WDW to buy in.

The first trip was off site, and I said we wouldn't do that again.
The second trip was to Coronado Springs, and we enjoyed that a lot. We knew we would be coming back often.
We compared what we paid for the first 2 trips to what we would pay for a share in the DVC, and found that DVC with it's choices of premium resorts, transportation, and perks was a good deal for us. :earseek:

Thanks for posting this thread SOCALKDG:) For those of us who live a distance and are pondering the question of whether to buy or not, I have found your thread to be very helpful.:)
