How Many Trips Can I Milk?~A PTR

3. Fashion: 1 star: Clearly Crocs aren't fashionable, but I had to at least assign 1 star to this category due to the fact that no one openly pointed or laughed at my shoes. (That's always a plus!)

:rotfl2:
I am tempted to get Crocs, but this is what's holding me back. I feel like they look cute on everyone else but make my feet look ginormous. I really like the style that you bought though, I think I may have to try those on...

Love your report so far. Hope you are feeling better and posting those ADRs soon!

No! No one told me! You truly do learn something new on the Dis every day. I have already set a jibbetz limit for myself. Only one jibbetz per Croc at a time. (Now that's a sentence I never thought I'd type!) But that doesn't mean I can't buy more 'reserve' jibbitz...

I will try and post the ADRs and updated itinerary tonight. I fear I am starting to catch some awful cold---a gift from one of the children. (As my friend from the UK would say, "I'm feeling a tad bit peckish.")
Who knows, I may make a Winkers-esque entry to my PTR while hopped up on cold medicine tonight. (Tag fairy, did you catch that? ;) )

Oh, I fear I am going to be just the opposite -- all Jibbitzed out on my Crocs -- although I think they will need to at least match the colors of my Minnie Janes!

I hope you feel better! It always seems like when one of my students are sick, they come up to me twice as much. Ick!

First of all, I have to tell you that Faith is adorable! Those wedding pictures are priceless. I think it's great that you're so close even though you have an age gap. I hope you can make her smile like that during your trip.

Second, I've made a mental note that if I'm ever in Florida, I shouldn't accept any offers of $20 with a Big Mac thrown in. Bad deal!!! That's a crazy story about those kids breaking into the school. It's really sad that things have gotten so out of hand. The worst is that the parents refuse to believe the kids did anything wrong. When you said you saw the hand gun, I accidentally read "head gun". I'm glad it wasn't!

That's too bad the Fart Festival didn't work out! :lmao: I was looking forward to an update on such a novel yet somewhat disgusting concept.

Sorry you're sick! Don't you hate how you just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time where someone coughs or sneezes on you and then you're feeling like crap for weeks? Hope you feel better.

My DH has finally learned the value and now just pleasantly hands over the card when I say..."We're going to Disney World" your DH will get better!!!
Hope you have a great trip!

Yes, I've officially decided I'm sick. Since I'm sick, I will use the Dis to make me feel better. But, how much of a Dis dose will do it? :confused3

BTW, those of you thinking I'm not 'working' today, you're half right. Today is school-wide standardized test practice day. Today involves little more than making sure students have a number 2 pencil and verifying they're making continuous circular movements with said pencils. :magnify:

So, as I was sitting here sniffling, sneezing, and well, feeling sorry for myself, I caught something out of the corner of my eye. To be precise, it was the word KINGDOM. Unless you're surfing the Dis, that is not a high frequency word. Like two magnets attracting, I quickly shot toward this word. It was located on the front cover of a book one of my little angels was reading. I made some excuse about needing to see whether this book was appropriate reading material and snatched it out of the, by now, very frightened child's hand. :scared:

This, ladies and gentlemen, is where the spotlight shines down and the chorus of angels begins singing  : I held in my hand a book about Disney. It wasn't a guide book, or a map book, or a history book, or any other kind of nonfiction book. It was a FICTION book about DISNEY.
I held: The Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark by Ridley Pearson!!!
:yay:
I have decided to tell myself that none of you must have known about this book's existence, otherwise you'd have told me...Right??? ::yes::

This book has made me unusually happy for several reasons:
#1: Every day after lunch, my school does a campus-wide Drop Everything and Read program, also known to some of my students as the Don't Even Attempt Reading program. There is truly nothing funnier than watching a 12-year-old avoid the act of reading. As if it would cause them bodily harm, they use a plethora of time-wasting tactics. They usually begin by staring at their desks. The staring then moves from the tops of their desks to staring at the ceiling panels overhead. At this point, their cuticles become very interesting to them, and a process of biting, sucking, picking at their fingernails begins. I don't really know how long a child would fool with their own fingers, as I generally bark at them to quit it quite quickly, but I'm fairly certain it would be an indefinite process if reading avoidance could be assured.
The funny thing about this is that as much as a child hates TO read, they LOVE being read to. Go figure! So, every Wednesday, much to preserve my sanity as to give their nails a reprieve (and time to grow back!), I read to them. We are currently reading some angst-filled book entitled You Don't Know Me. It has some questionable parts, but the children LOVE it! (Yes, it came from the school library. I am not reading them unapproved, questionable books.)
However, we are dangerously close to finishing this book, and I have not had the foresight to line up another. (See where I'm going with this?)
So, ta-da! We will be continuing our joint DEAR time on Wednesday's with Disney After Dark! I am over the moon with the thought of incorporating Disney into my classroom. Think of all the great discussions we can have about Disney while reading the book? My mind is almost numb with either a genuine fever or a Disney-induced fever...

Side note: We've also read some of the Peter and the Starcatchers series this year in DEAR. Ridley Pearson is one talented man, and he will make for an easy segue into the new novel.

Reason #2: I'm getting a little tired of reading only guide-type material. The inner middle schooler in me is craving a silly read, and this should be perfect.

Reason #3: On CharlestonPrincess's PTR, we were just talking about book clubs and how more of them should exist. Well, here's a chance for a Dis book club, just as long as you don't mind reading pre-teen fantasy!

Okay, enough rambling, I'm now off to purchase The Kingdom Keepers! :cool1:

Yes! Yes! Yes! You have just described my own middle school students and their uncanny ability to shirk reading! Too funny!

Ummm...how do I want to phrase this: you are really going to enjoy reading The Kingdom Keepers :scared: . I guess I dropped the ball on that one, didn't I? We loved it at our house -- our copy is pretty dog-eared since I read it last summer, then DD read it, then DS read it. Here: I will try to redeem myself: the sequel comes out in August!

You know I am all over the thought of a DIS book club -- I'd have no problem rereading Kingdom Keepers -- it is that good! At least in my Disney-obsessed eyes :thumbsup2 .

I'm sorry you feel so rotten -- are you getting sub plans together?

Ok, I'm going to swing by the book store to see if they have that book. I live in a small town so the chances are slim. I guess I can look online for it too. But I want it NOW! The kids and I read together all the time so this will be great! It will get them excited for disney again, without knowing how soon they'll be there again!

:rotfl2: You forgot the infinete time wasting technique known as "I'm looking for a book to read." Said while wandering aimlessly in front of the book shelf.

I loved Peter and the Starcatchers, and I had heard of Kingdom Keepers, but didn't connect that they were by the same author. I'll have to look for Kingdom Keepers, perhaps it came be my airplane book this Friday night?

Me (DW) 25 :teacher: ---I am a middle school Lang. Arts teacher. It's a tough job and a tough age, but I love it. (It has, however, caused me to completely rethink wanting children of my own. Babies are adorable and all, but in every baby's life, the age of twelve looms in the not-so-distant future, and twelve ain't so pretty! Before you give me these  , know that I'm sure my mind will change as I get older. I am just not ready yet!)

You're report is really good - I need to learn to write like you! I am substitute teaching right now AND you know those darling middle schoolers are ten times worse for subs!! :rotfl2: I also have a 15 year old and she NEVER acted like those middle schoolers did...I always got excellent reports about her...so don't let those kids scare you about your own...it's all in the way you raise 'em!

I actually really like subbing...but definitely prefer the elementary school and even the high school to middle school. I still sub in the middle schools too but much more picky about what assignments I take. :thumbsup2

AND definitely milk as many trips as you can! I surprised my DD with our Christmas 2006 trip and it was priceless seeing her face when she realized where we were going. I made a few scrapbook pages for her (see pics in my own pre-trip report) and gave it to her about an hour before our car service showed up...I also gave her a bunch of scrapbooking supplies so that she could finish the scrapbook when she got home (which of course isn't done!!) So I realize your sister is only 8 but if she likes crafts this could work for her too...my daughter made her first scrapbook when she was 11 or 12 when she went to a Hillary Duff concert!

Great report, looking forward to hearing more...
Jes

Or the ever-popular, "I left my book in my locker." And the increasingly popular, "I need to go to the library. I finished/didn't like/need to renew my book!"

I loved Peter and the Starcatchers too -- the other two in the series are also good.

You would love my ds14. He's always reading! He's picked up on my habit of reading while doing chores. He's quite adept at vacuuming and scrubbing the toilet while reading!

Hey, are you making fun of me???:rotfl:

I would never make fun of the real Winkers.
Flat Winkers, however, is fair game!

:rotfl2:
I am tempted to get Crocs, but this is what's holding me back. I feel like they look cute on everyone else but make my feet look ginormous. I really like the style that you bought though, I think I may have to try those on...

Love your report so far. Hope you are feeling better and posting those ADRs soon!

Thanks! I also thought Crocs would have the "ginormous" effect on me as well, and I have fairly wide feet to begin with. I gave in though (obviously), and I'm glad I did. Peer pressure: C'mon, you know you want to. Everyone's doing it...;)

Oh, I fear I am going to be just the opposite -- all Jibbitzed out on my Crocs -- although I think they will need to at least match the colors of my Minnie Janes!

I hope you feel better! It always seems like when one of my students are sick, they come up to me twice as much. Ick!

I wiped down all of their desks today with antibacterial goop. I told them that if Mrs. BrittBritt gets sick, they will have quadruple the amount of homework, so they better figure out how to leave those germs at home. I'm terribly cruel to the children.

First of all, I have to tell you that Faith is adorable! Those wedding pictures are priceless. I think it's great that you're so close even though you have an age gap. I hope you can make her smile like that during your trip.

Glad you're enjoying these crazy antics! Yes, $20 offer + Big Mac promise= night in So. FL. jail cell!

It makes me sick to think how out of control some of these kids are. The other sick thing is that these same 4 boys who broke into that school over the weekend will be taking our state standardized tests next week, and the teachers of those boys will be judged by their test scores. The fact that these boys come from horrific homes won't be factored in. The fact that they will have spent much of the week in the teen detention center won't be factored in. No, the only thing that will be looked at is a test score. We are failing these kids in so many ways.
End of rant...

My DH has finally learned the value and now just pleasantly hands over the card when I say..."We're going to Disney World" your DH will get better!!!

No sub plans...it's honestly easier for me to be there sick than for me to call out.
I wonder if there's already a Dis book club of some kind? I mean, Lord, they have threads about everything here. You'd think there would be!

Ok, I'm going to swing by the book store to see if they have that book. I live in a small town so the chances are slim. I guess I can look online for it too. But I want it NOW! The kids and I read together all the time so this will be great! It will get them excited for disney again, without knowing how soon they'll be there again!

I ordered mine today from Amazon. Then I spent awhile reading every review I could find about the book. It looks really interesting. A Nobel Prize winner it is not, but for a fun read to pass some time before vacay, it fits the bill. You'll have to let me know if you get it.

Mine don't even pretend to look at the shelf for a book. Instead they dive right in to organizing my bookshelves. Apparently they think I value order over reading. Silly children...

BLESS YOU! I do not envy the job of a sub. In fact, I know I would not be able to do it. By this time in the year, my classes are practically able to run themselves because we've worked on routine from day one in Aug. Coming in as a sub where you don't know the routine, and the kids take advantage of the fact that you don't know the routine is not fun.

Faith absolutely loves anything to do with arts and crafts, so I'm sure we'll be spending tons of time after the trip scrapbooking. I already jumped the gun and created an autograph book for her. (I say jumped the gun because it's MARCH! :sad2: ) But I figured it was necessary since she won't be able to make her own book in the few hours we'll have between when she finds out we're leaving on Dec. 25th and when we actually go on the 26th.

:lmao:

Or the ever-popular, "I left my book in my locker." And the increasingly popular, "I need to go to the library. I finished/didn't like/need to renew my book!"

I loved Peter and the Starcatchers too -- the other two in the series are also good.

Then they come back from the library empty-handed, and you ask them where their book is, and they give you the deer-in-headlights look.
What, she actually expected me to check one out? :headache:

You would love my ds14. He's always reading! He's picked up on my habit of reading while doing chores. He's quite adept at vacuuming and scrubbing the toilet while reading!

He's my kind of child: smart and useful. Would he be interested in participating in a student exchange program?

After much nagging and threats of a cease and desist on all future cooking, I finally got DH to commit to ADRs.
This was NOT easy.
I already had some ideas in mind of where I wanted to eat, and of course, I already knew all about what our schedule would be. As always, DH knew nothing about nothing but didn't let that stop him from opining.
I will save you the long and drawn out conversation about how I never knew DH didn't like steak, and how I thought he was making that up to simply foil my plans to eat at Le Cellier, and how the CM LAUGHED at me over the phone when I had to GIVE UP a 7:00 dinner ADR for Le Cellier because, didn't I understand, this was not an easy ressie to get... The phrase, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" frequented our conversation...(Yes, it was said in caps :mic: ...The honeymoon is over ;) ...) Revenge on DH is being plotted as I type...:stir:

And without further ado, our plans:

Monday, July 21st:
Wake up early at home and drive to Epcot
Be there by 8:30 (hopefully)---We'll need to still pick up our Fl. Res. APs
Ride Soarin' and explore FW
Lunch: Either Cantina de San Angel, Sunshine Seasons, or POP Food Court (I'm leaning towards Sunshine Seasons. Have you seen pics of their desserts on the food porn thread?)
Around noon check into POP
Back to Epcot for a spin around WS (FIESTA MARGARITA!)
5:10 ADR at Coral Reef (This is the ADR I'm least excited for. This is DH's pick, and it's what replaced Le Cellier. DH says he thinks it will be "cool" to look at fish. Nevermind we live in Florida and can look at fish WHENEVER WE WANT! :furious: Marriage is compromise, marriage is compromise...)
Illuminations at 9:00
MK for 11 Spectro (Does anyone know if this would even be possible? Taking the monorail and making it to MK in time?)

Tuesday, July 22nd:
Be at DHS by 8:30
Ride RnR & TOT
CS Lunch at DHS or AK---I'm leaning toward AK
AK for the afternoon
5:00 ADR at Yak & Yeti
At AK till 8:00
PI for Comedy Warehouse/Adventurers Club OR MK till 11 OR Epcot till 12 for EMH (Decisions, decisions...)

Wednesday, July 23rd:
Tonga Toast at Poly (Captain Cook's)
Be at MK by 8:30
Space, Splash, & Big Thunder Mountain!
Lunch at CHH (Hmmmmm....Anchor's Aweigh)
Sneak in a Dole Whip
6:20 ADR at 'Ohana (So excited for this!)
Wishes at 10
Illuminations at 11
DHS until 1? (Once again, even possible/worth it? I know, I know, you're going to say just go to bed...)

Thursday, July 24th:
Be at AK by 8:30
Everest!
Lunch at FTBBQ
Bus to DHS
5:30 ADRs for Mama Melrose Fantasmic Package
Fantasmic at 9
Epcot till 12? (How would we get there? Walk? I know, I know, go to bed!)

Friday, July 25th:
SLEEP IN!
Breakfast at POP Food Court
Shopping at DTD
Lunch at EOS
Pick up goodies to bring home at Goofy's Candy Co.
Find something for Miss Botox at the dod store (Dog Tails? maybe it's called?)
Drive home :guilty: (Or give DH the pitiful face and get more park time somewhere)

We aren't big breakfast people, so that won't be a priority for us. We will definitely be loving us some Tonga Toast on Wed.
I must also find time for some Schoolbread and a Cloudberry Horn.
Oh yes, and I must also make time for some Figaro Fries.

Let me know what you all think. I know we're really on the go for this trip, but remember, my trip with my mom in Oct. and with Faith in Dec. will be much slower.

Back to Epcot for a spin around WS (FIESTA MARGARITA!)
:lmao: I actually wrote "find Fiesta Margarita" on our touring plan for Epcot.

Perhaps let DH know that it would be "cool" for his wife to receive a love note held up by a diver in those fish tanks. :goodvibes

I had a cm laugh at me when I asked for LeCelier at 100 days out!

Hey BrittBritt, just found your pre-trippie through you subbing to mine, read though it and definately subscribing :thumbsup2

Your pre-trippie is brill - it has so much info in and gives a real sense of your everyday lives in, which is always great (especially from a very curious, US life loving Brit). Also very funny which makes it much more readable :rotfl:

Firstly Faith is gorgeous, such a beautiful age to be as well. I too have a younger sister, Sophie, she is 11 so 11 years younger than me. She is also a half sister but that factor never arises as she means everything to me. We are so close, despite the age difference, probably closer than I am to my older sister who is only 3 years difference in age. The first time we took her to WDW was amazing - the best and most memorable bits were seeing her reactions to everything. you and Faith will have an amazing time together I am sure, especially at xmas. You sound like me, wanting to spoil her and give her everything, little sisters are so precious arent they??

Secondly your plans sound great. Shame about the Le Cellier ADR, luckily not being married I dont have to compromise, I just chose what I want to do and Nick goes along :woohoo: . However, I am sure Coral Reef will be great, I have heard some great reviews about it and we too have an ADR there so will let you know. We also have Yak and Yeti (cant wait to try) and Ohana (twice) - I have no doubt you will love that, it is our favourite restaurant. :) We are also hoping to check out The Adventurer's Club and The Comedy Club as it is just the two of us this time so the perfect opportunity.

Oh and your wedding pics are beautiful, you look absolutely gorgeous, and the pics of Faith are adorable. Looks like you had an amazing wedding, and now an amazing marriage - always good to find someone who shares your love of Disney, I mean what good are they if they dont :lmao: . And the Alaska pics too - my little sister is dying to go to Alaska, would love to hear more.

Keep up the great work, cant wait for your next installment :cheer2:

Okay, I am exhausted reading your itinerary, but it sure looks like fun!

I sympathize with your pain over Le Cellier -- DH refused 50's Prime Time AND Hollywood Brown Derby AND Restaurant Marrakesh -- so upsetting!

To make you feel better, Coral Reef, while not my fave restaurant last summer, was fun. The food was good (not "knock my socks off and call me names" fantastic, but good). I ordered the catfish on pepperjack grits and enjoyed it. What I REALLY loved, loved, loved was the Chocolate Wave dessert. It's like this piece of cake, and when you cut into it, this huge wave of melted chocolate spills out. Yummy, yummy, yummy! :worship:

Fiesta Margarita? Love how that had to go into the itinerary :)! In honor of that, I am going to add "get Kir Royale in France" on mine :). Also, a Yak Attack at Yak and Yeti :thumbsup2 .

I want to try Sunshine Seasons, too (for the desserts mainly) -- especially after looking at some of the pics on the food porn thread tonight!

Are you feeling any better today?

:lmao: I actually wrote "find Fiesta Margarita" on our touring plan for Epcot.

Perhaps let DH know that it would be "cool" for his wife to receive a love note held up by a diver in those fish tanks. :goodvibes

:goodvibes Now, understand, I'm not a big drinker, but the pictures of these margaritas look wonderful! The more pics I see, the more things I want to drink in Epcot...I can picture DH having to carry me out of the park after I pass out from ONE margarita in 98 degree July heat! :dance3: Dehydration here I come!

I had a cm laugh at me when I asked for LeCelier at 100 days out!

Stupid, smug CMs...:snooty:

Thanks for reading, and I'm so glad someone is enjoying this.
I can totally relate to your relationship with your half-sis. It's the same with Faith and I. Resisting the urge to spoil her rotten is extremely difficult. Poor Faith didn't get to join us in Alaska, but she received many souvenirs. DH and I would be walking, and I'd pick up a ROCK, and he'd ask me what on Earth I was doing. Gifts for Faith, natch. What other second grader has a rock from Alaska for show and tell? That's what a big sis is for!
Since you have some of the same ADRs, I expect a full dining report from you once you return home.

Yak Attack? I will have to reread the menus for that one! It actually sounds like what you'd be doing after having one too many of those drinks. It's quite an unappetizing name.
I've decided to just be happy about all of our dining plans. I am sure Coral Reef will be fine. I was looking at pictures of the crab legs, and I'd love to get those, but I never will. I would just be the idiot unable to get the meat out, and I'd probably fling a leg over into someone else's Chocolate Wave. :sad2:

:goodvibes Now, understand, I'm not a big drinker, but the pictures of these margaritas look wonderful! The more pics I see, the more things I want to drink in Epcot...I can picture DH having to carry me out of the park after I pass out from ONE margarita in 98 degree July heat! :dance3: Dehydration here I come!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Oh, the mental image of the crab leg sailing through the Coral Reef is just too much!

I am a lightweight too, and I know I am being overly ambitious thinking I can drink my way around the world during the Food and Wine Festival! But a girl can dream, right?
