Does anyone know how many seats Jetblue puts out at each rate before the price goes up to the next level? The rep I spoke to said 9, but I think she's mistaken. From what I understand, they can only price a maximum of 9 seats at a time. Maybe she confused that with the number of flights available at each price?

the only people who know the answer to that work at JetBlue and won't release that information. It is highly confidential. The revenue maximization of airline seats is very complex

Agents can reserve and/or view no more than 9 seats at one time in their system.

I believe it varies based on the time of the year (holidays, school vacations)

I want to say between 10-20.

When I book air if I am looking for a family of 4.
I first check the cost for 1 passenger, then 2, then 3, then 4. Sometimes there might be 2 seats left at one price, and 2 seats at the higher rate. I believe if you put in for all 4 tickets at the same time you will pay the higher rate for all of them.

It will definitely vary by time of year, but also by time of the day, and day of the week. And it is just about the most proprietary information an airline has, so no one who really knows will be able to give any indication whatsoever.

So, would you then book 2 seats at lower price, and 2 seats at higher price and book them separately in groups of 2, instead of all 4 at once? Are there any negatives to doing it this way? I'm guessing that maybe you wouldn't be able to book all seats together.

Only Jet Blue knows. It's like this with all airlines. The computers are set up to calculate the numbers based on date, time of day you book, how many seats need to be booked, etc. It's like hitting a moving bulls eye blindfolded.

yes, I book the seperate if the price is different. When I go to do the seat assignment for the first group I look at the chart to make sure there are 4 seats together and book 2, then go back and do the other 2.:)
