Hey guys

Currently I own 200pts at SSR

We are staying at VWL this year and I have a feeling that I am going to love it as I was a AKL regular...I just like the layout at VWL better then the other DVC resorts....

Anyway,

How many points would I need to add on to have home resort priority? So I can book 11 months in advance? Is it even possible?

Thanks!....

Each point you purchase has home resort priority at the one specific resort. To have home resort priority at VWL, you'd have to purchase as many VWL points as you would like to use to book your stays there.

Remember, with banking and borrowing, a smaller contract can go further. We have 200 points at BWV and 50 points at VWL. We typically bank and borrow the VWL points, so we have 150 points every third year. We book our vacation with those 150 points, at the 11 month point. On the other two years, we stay at BWV.

One trick I learned about dealing with the 7 month point is to book Sunday through Thursday night at the 11 month point, and then try to add on Saturay night (or Friday night) at the 7 month point: Weekend days tend to book last, so you have a better chance of getting them (with your SSR points) later in the booking period. However there are no guarantees of course.

I'm confused....VWL, BCV, BWV, and SSR all have the same room layout. Only OKW is different.

Sorry, I meant the general layout ... not the room!!! :-) I like the grounds and proximity better as well.

Wilderness Lodge is an incredible resort, in terms of grounds, facilities, available recreation, etc. If you really enjoy it that much, you really may be better off selling your SSR points and buying VWL points instead.

Figure out how many points you would need to stay in the size unit of your choice at the usual time of year you go for the length of time you'd be spending there. Then buy that many points.

Remember, you only have the 11 month window to spend the number of points yyou have at that resort as you home resort. So, if you have 50 points at VWL and 200 points at SSR, that means at the 11 month window at VWL you can book 50 points worth of "stay". Once you get to the 7 month window, your SSR points can kick in and be used to "buy"more time at VWL if there is availability at the 7 month window.

The suggestion about seeing what it would "cost" to book Sunday through Thursday at VWL, and then wait till the 7 month window to try and book the whole weekend using SSR points is a pretty good one too. That way, you have the option of splitting your stay if necessary, but you still could get the whole thing at VWL if that's what you really want.

Don't forget about waitlisitng too!
