How many pictures do YOU take?

In dec my MIL took 1500 pics and I used 6 disney disposable cameras that I got at walmart. In Aug I went through 3 rolls of film and had to buy a disposable camera on our last day. In July my MIL took like 800 (one day she was sick and ended up having to go back to the room before we got started in the parks). I remember in 2004 the trip we went on when we got home she asked me to drop the film off at walmart and it was 13 rolls for one hour photo the lab people probably thought I was crazy.

Since I went digital, I take way more pics than I ever did with film - because digital pics are free for me. I don't print my pics, I keep them completely on my computer.

These days I average 100-150 pics per day. I tend to take more pics in Animal Kingdom, since there are usually some great animal pic opportunities there, and since I have been going to MouseFest every year, I also take lots of pics at the MegeMouse Meet.

Since memory cards are so cheap ($14 for a 1gb card is a great bargain), you should buy enough cards that you can switch cards AT LEAST every two days, whether the cards are full or not. Ideally, you should switch cards every day, though even at $14 per card that can run into a lot of money. The reason behind this is simple - like DisneyNutz said, if you put all your eggs on one memory card, you run the risk of losing them all should something bad happen to your camera or the memory card. Splitting the pics up will give you some insurace - the cards you have used should stay back in your hotel safe.

If you don't have enough memory cards to switch every day or every two days, you can get your pics downloaded to CD at any of the camera shops in the 4 theme parks. However, this costs $13 per CD, so you might just as well buy more memory cards.

:thumbsup2

This past March we took 740 pictures with our digital camera with the memory card that comes with it. We have a Kodak Easy Share CX7430. I deleted about 100 and that was it. When we had film I took 36 rolls of 36 exp.
As the other thread said disney is priceless. I develop at least half of them.

Okay question to all you crazy picture takers.;) Do you normally take a lot of pictures? My MIL is going with us in October (its everyones first trip and we are a Grand Gathering...17 going) she can EASILY take 50-75 pictures at a grandchilds bday party and takes way more on holidays. I know that she will be taking a TON of pictures but now with seeing the total number of pictures y'all are taking I am freaking out! :scared1: Are we going to be able to walk a foot without having to stop for a picture???:confused3

Ah.......NO!!!!:sad2:

No. You won't. It's going to be photographic Hades! :scared:

Seriously, MIL sounds like she's one of those who constantly points the camera at the grandkids but not at the surrounding scenery, so it won't be quite as bad as all that; she will probably be taking pics at the same time you are, which is whenever the kids are doing something cute, like riding a ride, playing in a fountain, or bouncing off the walls of the monorail from eating too much sugar just before you leave the park in the evening.

If it gets too bad, just do what my friends do when I stop to take a bunch of pics - keep on going and let me catch up later. It's not insulting to me, because MY need to take a pic is less important than the entire group's need to move on to the next attraction. I will sometimes request that the group pose for me, which results in some great shots, but I mostly take pics of the scenery, rather than the people.

Ok, so some of you have made me feel better...:rotfl:

BUT! With that said I took 1400 on our last trip(8 days). And yes, I do take the in the airplane, airport, and of all our food...lmao...although I will say that those really helped me to remember how the food was at those rest. and whether we wanted to go or not again. Oh, and my excuse was a friend was going after us and wanted to see what we ate on the ddp. Excuse enough for me *click click*

Funny thing was I swore that I had already taken pics of everythign possible the last trip(I took about 800 or so) and would take less this time. I nearly DOUBLED it! My goal really is this time to use the photopass alot more and not really worry about everything else. I mean, really, how many pics do I need of the giant hat at mgm...:lmao: (But how can you really not take so many when your adorable family is in front of it again, and again, and wow, look, there you guys are AGAIN!)

Anyway, so it's REALLY nice that I can now say to some of you....
WOW! You guys take WAY too many pics...I think you have a problem.... ;)

And I am definitely bringing my dh here and showing him your numbers. Even though he's happy to have all the pics, at times he teases me. We joke that my kids see a camera lense and run yelling 'MOMMY!'

On a side note, I think this stems from my house burning down when I was a child. I literally have about 10-20 pics of myself from my entire childhood. My kids won't ever have that problem. And that's the fun part to me, looking back and reliving it all, all the little joys. I really didn't feel like I took that many pics at all the past trip....:rotfl2:

Maybe we need to start an "anonyMOUSE" group for this.

Well, we went to Coney Island and the NY Aquarium today, and between the kiddie rides and aquarium I took 130 pictures.

I'm bringing my Nikon D50 to Disney, and I have 2 2gb cards and I think that if I took that many today, I better go get more cards. LOL

I feel so much better now. When I got back from my trip with dd last year my family made so much fun of me for taking close to 1500 pictures in a week. DD loves the characters so I do take continuous shots while she is interacting with them. I love to put one of her talking to the character next to the posed photo in my scrapbook.

I do love the digital age!:surfweb:

:cool1:

That is one of my big fears!! I have pictures covering every wall in our house along with more than 30 Photo Albums and my scrapbooks. I worry about fire and losing all the memories (or records of the memories). I can look at all of my pictures and know where and when it was taken and what was going on. I would be devastated to lose them!!

For Christmas each year I make my family (Parents, in-laws, Grandma's, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins) a Scrapbook Calendar of family pictures. I use pictures taken during the year and each month spotlights one family. They love it and I of course am addicted to photography and scrapbooking.

I am glad that there are others here who share the obsession!

One word: SCAN!

I'm lucky enough that my parents have plenty of pics from my childhood, and their parents have plenty of pics of their childhoods. But a few years ago, my Dad stated scanning those pics; he's not done yet (I think he got about half done and stopped, intending to start again later, but hasn't yet). But those pics he did scan are now backed up by being copied to several computers and several CDs, including both of my computers and several backups that I keep at home and at work.

Once you get all those precious photographic memories turned into digital files, you can easily burn multiple copies to share with others in your family, which not only allows everyone to enjoy them, but spreads off-site backup copies all over the place. "Off-site backup" is a computer industry term, meaning a backup in a remote location that will not be affected by any total disaster (such as a fire, tornado, hurricane, flood, etc) that might befall your primary location. Off-site backup can be as simple as burning a CD with your important files and keeping it at work.

But the most important, and most difficult, part of backing up those old photos is to scan them. Scanning thousands of old photos can take a tremendous amount of time, but it can also be very rewarding. If you scan a certain amount of pics in any one sitting, then set up your Windows screen saver to show them as a slide show afterward, you get a terrific review of the work you just did, as you go.

I think it depends on your picture taking habits! I love pictures and have started scrapbooking, so i tend to take a lot of pictures. What I am going to do this time when we go in June is take my laptop so everynight I can download my pictures on that with a date, because I am trying to organize my photos on my computer to make it easier on me later on. Last year I took close to 600 photos and my sister took close to 200. You can always use the memory cards, somebody else said it, memory cards-$14.00, pictures of your family in disney world-priceless. Have fun!

I'd say the biggest loss of taking pics so much is just your 100% enjoyment and the time you put in. But really, you can't have too many pics, you know? You can always delete some, but you can never make more.

OH, when we took regular photos I always got doubles and sent 1/2 to my mil and kept 1/2. She also gets back-ups of all my pics every few months and they keep them in their huge fire proof safe at their house and I also keep a copy of hers at mine. So we have doubles. Believe me, that was the worst thing ever to me to not be able to look back and see my life in photos. My dad was a huge photo taker then too. Just so sad.

We also are laptop takers! We dump our cards every night to be sure we don't lose those disney memories! We also leave them on the card though so we have double the protection. One year my dh brought the dvd burner with us and we made copies at night. Can you tell I'm a little paranoid?

More than I should! But you just can't help it! Besides, it's the best feeling to look at those pictures & remember what you were doing, the fun you were having, & the magic you were enjoying! pixiedust: pixiedust: :goodvibes

I have always been a picture person and taken tons of pictures. Before I went digital, I would take a 36 roll of film for each day on a trip, plus a couple extra, but now I snap away which is great. I took 650 pictures on my sons first trip in december. We were there for 7 nights. I have several 128mb cards and picked up 2 512mb cards, but on our day in mgm we had a ton of great character meetings and the card I was using was running low on space because I had forgot to change the card that morning, so I decreased the pixel size so I could take more pics. It is nice to have the extra memory cards.
I am now scrapping them, and I printed out around 400 pics to scrap. It is so fun to relive the trip and when I finish it will be time to book a trip for next spring.
Most of the pics I took had people in them. I travelled with a friend and my DB and DSIL so we burned all of our pic to cd's for each other, that way we could print whatever pics we wanted. I do wish I had taken more pics of just scenery and the sights now that I'm scrapping them.

Have a great trip!!

I

Thanks for all the great input!!! :thumbsup2 After thinking long and hard, I've decided not to get the extra memory cards. We would only be buying them for this trip and they'd go unused any other time. I have an older laptop that dd uses for her games, so I played around with it this afternoon and managed to get my Kodak software on there and will take the power cable and download the pictures to the laptop everyday after we're done at the parks. I can transfer everything at home later.

Thanks y'all! :hippie:

I'm sure my fiance and I will take a lot of pictures on our honeymoon, I usually take about 500 on our trips but I want to take more pictures on our trip to remember, including food and our hotel room.

On my first trip to WDW in May 2006 I was there for i think 14 or 15 nights and i took about 2100 pictures and about 5 hours of video total.

On my second trip in september of 2006 I took about 1100 pics and was only there for 8 days.

Now im going back April 28th-may 7th and I'm not sure how many pictures I will take.......:confused3

We tend to take more and more pictures with every trip. We have a HP point and shoot for quick pics and handing over to CMs for taking pics of us with characters. We have two 1GB cards and a 32MB card which have more than enough room for all our pics. For our last trip we bought a Canon Elura 100 digital video camera. This past Xmas I bought DW a Canon Rebel XTI with two 8GB cards.

The last trip we took close to 2500 pictures and filled four 60 minute video tapes (and no we didn't take a single picture of our food :lmao:).
