We will be booking our first cruise tomorrow for January 22,2005.I was wondering how the weather is?Is it warm enough to swim and wear shorts? Is the seas rough during that time? Also what excursions would you suggest for a couple with no children(Eastern)?Sorry for all the questions just kinda worried about sailing that time of the year,So Please reassure me everything will be OK.

Thanks,
Misty

We cruised this past Jan. The weather was cold in Port Canaveral. The weather on board was O.K. The kids still swam, but they would regardless of the weather. Castaway Cay was cold in the morning but warmed up nice by noon. Were going again 1/15/05 Western. Overall the temps were 70s - 80s. Never unbearably hot...Mark

DW and I were on the Magic 2 years ago in January and it was great. Warm temps mid 70's to lower 80's. The sea's were no problem, all we could think about was " gee....I wonder how cold it is back home today, LOL ". The excursions run the gambit. Whatever your interests are, I'm sure you will find something that will catch your eye.
We also had no children with us and it was a great experience.
We were busy when we wanted to be and just relaxed when we wanted to do nothing. I hope you enjoy your trip, any other questions just ask.

I just cruised the Western January 04. The temperature was great everywhere - definitely summer clothing. The water everywhere though was too chilly for us. We did get in because we did swim type excursions. Our teeth were chattering though. By Castaway Cay I had had enough and I did not go in the water there. My son did and didn't stay in very long. I must add that we are from the Phoenix, Arizona area so probably get colder faster then most people... The water was not rough we loved the vacation - if I had a choice and the price was the same I would probably sail when the water is warmer...

We have cruised several times in January now, and we have always had very good luck with the weather. It is a little cooler in Port Canaveral, but heck after you depart from there the weather is usually very good.

I've went to Florida in Jan and it was to cool for my taste and I cruised years ago on the big red boat in Jan and it was semi-cool weather but it was to cold to swim. Its a personal thing though...when I cruise or go to Floirda I want to feel the heat, I don't want to have to wear sweat pants and sweatshirts. I usually cruise in May, the weather has been great the last 2 times and I have a third planned for next year.

Florida may be cold...........

Castaway Cay may be cold.............

But anything south of that is great! Very Warm and definately shorts weather!

But who knows, you may luck out in 2005 and have warm weather all around!

We've sailed these two past January's and in 2003 it was warmer here in the Great White North than in Florida!

Have fun sailing!

I cruised in January 2002 and the weather was wonderful! The sun on Castaway Cay was hot, hot HOT!! I wouldnt' hesitate to go in January again.

I'm cruising Jan 5, 2005 eastern. Living near Boston when some years you feel lucky if it even reaches zero on a January day I think the weather will be excellent. I'm more concerned about a blizzard preventing our travel then the weather on the cruise.

We were on the Wonder in Jan 2003 and it was warm. We enjoyed the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter on Nassau and the gentle waters of Castaway Cay.

You'll have a blast!

We cruised in January of this year. The temps when we left were 14 below zero and they cancelled school because it was so cold, so we were happy to be gone. The weather when we left Port Canaveral was in the 50's but I was in my shorts and short sleeves. (Fl. natives were looking at me like I was crazy when we stopped for breakfast that morning, one waitress even asked if I was from Alaska). It was a "heat wave" for us. It warmed right up and we swam every day and at each port. It was in the 80's all week with high 70's at CC. We swam at CC as well. It was beautiful. We are planning on another cruise this January and the Western for Jan 06. So as you can see we would definitely do January again. You will be fine.

The seas get rough when leaving from and returning to port. You have to go through the Gulf Stream. The only other time I felt the ship really was after St. Maarten and we were high tailing it to St. Thomas. Seas were not rough at all.

Not sure what you are into as far as excursions. There are some beach trips or regatta sailing, submarines, rhino riders, snorkeling, we will need more info from you to help with that.

You will love January and it will certainly be warmer than where you are coming from so enjoy.

I live in Naples, Florida so I'm used to the warmth and the sun. We did the 4 night in early January 2003 and loved it. Cape Canaveral was chilly, but we swam and enjoyed the Atlantis in Nassau and we were chilly on CC. There were a lot of clouds that day and it felt chilly to us. Others were in the water though.
We did the Western this past January (04) and loved it. Cape Canaveral was once again alittle chill. Every where else was very warm and perfect. CC was even nice and I went swimming. For me to get in the water, it has to be warm. It took me alittle while to get used to it, but in I went!
I'm hoping to cruise in January 05 as well as long as they release Florida resident discounts.

We went on the Wonder in Jan 2002 (sailing date was Jan 6 I think) and while the ports were hot, sitting outside on the ship's deck was a little cool. It was quite breezy too so this probably made the difference. Didn't notice a problem with the waves though; the cruise was very smooth, and I'm prone to motion sickness so the ship was very stable. We still had a great time but I have to say we enjoyed our Oct 2002 cruise on the Wonder more because it was warmer on the ship. I guess it depends on what you want to do; if you want to sit outside and read, January may be a little cool, but if you want to do things like the spa, backstage tour, shows, etc, it will be fine. Also, the cool weather on the ship didn't stop my kids from going swimming in the pools and they never complained about being cold! Also the latter part of January may be warmer.
