I know that people have Christmas Dinner, Thanksgiving Dinner.

How many of you have a 'New Years Dinner'?

I mean getting up, after being up half the night ringing in the new year to prepare a big sit-down meal,
like Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter.

I have in the past. But for the last few years, we have been out of town due to a sporting event. But I always find somewhere to eat my black eyed peas.

Every year. Watch the Mummers' Parade and sit down to a big pork & sauerkraut meal. :thumbsup2

Our New Year's tradition is bowling with the extended family.
Now I did make dinner for everyone this year, but it was a simple Creole Shrimp and Crescent rolls.

Not here. We do lots of yummy appetizers for NYE. New Year's Day is kind of a "fend for yourself" day (leftover appetizers, lunch meat sandwiches, etc.)

Not us. We had Chinese take out. :)

We have a big dinner every New Year's Day, but I don't cook it.
My husband is a firefighter and there is a ceremony every New Year's Day at noon to have all the officers sworn in and then afterwards there is a big catered party at the firehouse.

I always cook a NY Day dinner.....this year it was turkey, stuffing and all those things since I didn't cook TG dinner this year and missed my leftovers.
It varies every year what it is, but always a nice sit-down dinner.

I was sick, so we didn't even have normal dinner. It was something quick and forgettable as I have no idea what we had.

There needs to be a third choice.

We used to have a New Year's dinner every year. In more recent years we've gotten away from it. Our kids are grown and have other family to see. My sisters have moved away and sometimes my parents go to see them. I really do miss it.

When we were kids, my parents hosted an Open House on New Year's Day. Family members we didn't get to see over the Christmas holiday would drop in and there were people coming and going all day. It was one of my favorite days of the year, right up there with Christmas & Thanksgiving.

Lives change, people move, and so family traditions change too.

We are pork and sauerkraut people on New Years Day --- the new year won't be lucky is you don't eat at least a bite of sauerkraut!

Some years we get together with my dad's cousins' families on New Years Day (He only has 2 cousins, and only one of them had children, so it isn't that big of gathering), but this year, my mom made the pork and sauerkraut and we watched the Winter Classic in all of the new Penguins gear we got for Christmas.

Yes. Pork, black-eyed peas, greens, rice, cornbread, etc. Traditional Southern New Years meal. Love it.

I voted No...but we don't really have any local family or anything. When I was a kid, we lived within 60 minute drive of aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc. and we did have a big dinner on New Years Day together.

We never had a "new years dinner" per se but being from the south we always had a big pot of black eyed peas (with the dime) for luck in the new year and cabbage for money in the new year.

My grandpa would always wait until you weren't looking and put a dime in your peas, I guess he wanted all the kids to feel proud and lucky to have found the dime!

That's us. Because we're taking down the decorations, we just graze most of the day. If that's not enough, I'll fix soup/sandwiches in the evening.

Me too! I'm now in NY, but my family won't start the New Year without Hoppin' John with black-eyed peas and andouille sausage (instead of a ham hock), greens, cole slaw and cornbread!

I voted no as it is not a BIG dinner, but we do have the pork, hop n john and rice and BEP or FPeas, greens and cornbread too! YUM!:thumbsup2

I do this almost every year. This year we had roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy and a few veggies. Not as many as Thanksgiving but a nice meal nonetheless.

My Mom always celebrated New Years day with a special meal, usually a baked ham so I try to continue her tradition.

We usually make a prime rib with all of the trimmings.
