Ok very curious how many of you here, purchase the insurance option on your Disney World trips??
We are trying to plan something for the fall, and on the fence whether we should fork up the extra couple hundred $$ or take our chances..??

I always buy it through insuremytrip. Luckily I've never had to use it, but I like knowing its there.

We have purchased the insurance on our last two trips. We also like knowing it is there.

I have gotten the insurance on my last 2 trips. I had to use it the first trip I purchased it. I didn't need it on my most recent trip though.

My DD who was 19 months old at the time, woke up with severe vommiting the morning we were supposed to fly home. I had to go to the ambulatory care center and the MD told us she couldn't fly. She had a urinary tract infection and by the time we got to the clinic was getting dehydrated. Later on, we had to go to the hospital in Celebration to get her rehydrated with IV fluid. We had to stay 2 extra nights. The insurance reimbursed my for the extra hotel days and reimbursed all our meals. Also, it covered the entertainment expense for DH to take DS (8) to DQ on our "extra" day there. The agent I spoke with on the phone was a very nice gal who helped me cancel my airline reservations, and book the new ones. The insurace even covered the $75 per person fee we were charged for changing our airline tickets. I had a letter from the doctor, and had to keep all our receipts. The form was kins of a pain to fill out, but the check we got back was well over what we had paid for the insurance in the first place.

I have been to WDW over 30 times, and this was the first time I actually wanted to leave.

Wow, that sums it up right there! You just never know...
We have never purchased insurance in the past, but did for our upcoming trip. It is a big trip for us and want the peace of mind....
Thanks for sharing the story, bzzymom!

I've never purchased it for WDW, but did purchase it for our upcoming Disney cruise. The cruise cancelation policy was so much stricter than the cancelation fee at a WDW hotel. Plus I was concerned about the remote chance that one of us would have to be airlifted of the ship (very costly from what I am told), or having to fly home from a foreign country (cost of airfare) in the event of an emergency.

I say purchase 2 summers ago dh and I were headed to Jamaica the morning we were to leave hurricane Dennis hit. Needless to say we didnt go but got all our money back and we headed to Cabo instead-far away from hurracanes!
So get the insurance its a small price for pice of mind!

I know I need to call and find out more info, but does anyone know if you purchase the insurance, Can you cancel for any reason or does it have to be the illiness, death, hurricane situation? We are going to try and sell our house this year, and we expect it to take some time, but if it does sell sooner than we think, we would have to cancel and reschedule our trip.
Would that be covered??
Thanks

we always get it for the simple reason that our health insurance does not cover care outside our state for any reason other than 'life threatening'-they cover nothing outside the u.s..

on our first trip to wdw (and kid's first long plane flight) both woke up day 3 with ear infections. the cost of having them both diagnosed along with the meds was more than the whole policy cost us. i called up the insurance company and they provided the name/location of various med. places we could go to, but also informed us that they covered an 'in room' physician company. the insurance rep. took the info. on where we were at and our contact number and called the company. within an hour we had a doctor IN THE HOTEL ROOM who did the diagnosis, called in the script to the pharmacy and arranged to have it delivered to the hotel front desk:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 i never would have known to even look for this type of service, and to have it covered and not have to sit for hours in an e/r or urgent care clinic was fantastic:thumbsup2

I didn't even think about insurance. Our DD will be 19 months. Where do you buy the insurance? Do you go through a travel agent? I want to plan our trip myself.

When you call Disney to book your trip you can have them add the insurance automatically. You could also get trip insurance on your own, but you would have to research that and make sure of what you're getting for your money. We buy the insurance through Disney because it's easier, and because our health insurance plan doesn't cover any out of state med costs either, so I think it's good for us to have "just in case". I think the added cost was around $120.

From Disney's official website: Vacation Insurance protects you against covered unexpected events. Our vacation insurance policy continues to offer great benefits covering many emergency and unexpected situations prior to and during your vacation. The policy includes the following coverage and benefits, subject to certain exclusions and limitations:

We did this past April, but only because it appeared that Dh's staff may go on strike at that time. If they had, we would have had to reschedule. Fortunatly it didn't happen and it wasn't a problem at all. Normally we wouldn't have bothered.

I've never brought trip insurance. Unless you've got some reason to think bad things may happen I think its not worth purchasing. Here is my analysis.

I'm 47 yo and have been taking about 2 vacations per year since I got out of college so figure 50 vacations. If I had bought trip insurance at say $100 for each vacation (don't know if this is right cause I never buy it) I would have spent $5000 on insurance. I figure if something goes wrong on this trip and I have to reschedule plane tickets or hotel I will still come out ahead.

We have always bought it for our Disney trips. I think mostly because I have always been in the "please pinch me - am I REALLY going to Disney World??" mode and didn't want us to get jinxed...

For the $120, it is worth the peace of mind - and this next trip, my DD and I are going alone - so the insurance is only $60!

bought it last year had to use bought it this year when we booked our trip I always buy it you never know its worth the peace of mind
