WoodysRoundup~I'm with you 100% about the CR being VERY sentimental, and evoking the most emotion and memories for me. It was the first on~property resort I ever stayed in...and the FEELING is still the same (every time I visit). The wonderment DD displayed as a toddler, can still be seen in the shadows of her smiles as we stroll through the wonder which is STILL WDW. Take it from me...it NEVER LEAVES them. Just one more reason, to plan and make it happen...year after blessed year. We are indeed, fortunate. Through the grace of God, and all the Angels whom watch over us.

...Speaking of Angels....time to go out to grab a bite at El Torito with a couple of my own.

That's where we've stayed....and in the first pod , near the Kudo Suite. Very convenient to both elevators for the CL and pool.

After we checked out of CR, we took a cab to AKL to check-in.
Cab fare was about $20 with tip. Not bad, for getting there with your luggage and having a room within minutes.
The bus to DTD is about 15 minutes, but if you just missed the bus, you might have to wait 20 min for another during the mid-day. I'm just one of those cabs and limo-types, I like to let others drive me around and get there when I want to get there.
No hasssle of renting at the airport, no valet parking, no tipping.
I used to rent cars all the time....things change! LOL!
Also, if you have a large party, there are always the van cabs.

floridafam...I'm excited for you and your DH!!!! Hope all is well in your family and he's back in training.
DH is in a half marathon tomorrow morning, so he's already asleep. Gotta keep our guys well and happy!

The memories have me sitting here at my computer with a box of tissues! The memories I have of my 3 children at WDW are all in several photo albums and I pull them out every now and then to look at them. They are some of our best family time memories. When my youngest daughter was deployed right after 9/11 my husband an I went through all of our pictures and remined each other of what happened during each picture. When Suzanne returned from her first tour she contacted us and said one of the pictures she had with her was the one of all of us with Mickey on her first trip. She was only 4 and she said she has some of her fondest memories of those trips. Suzy and her husband, Josh, are now stationed in the states and will be spending their 5th anniversary at WDw in September. Josh will be returning from his depoyment sometime this summer.
Jim and I are now making new memories with our granchildren. My oldest daughter and her husband are staioned in California, so we go to Disneyland with them and Zachary, who will be 3 in June, and to WDW with our son and his wife and Madyson 18 months old. It is funny, both my daughters married military men!!

I was just checking in this morning before I head off to the soccer field and had to pull out the tissues. You guys, your stories are so heart touching.....all of you are truly blessed!

This is our 1st trip since we too couldn't afford to take DS when he was little - even value or offsite. We struggled just to keep the bare essentials. We've come a long way in a short time and I thank God everyday for what we now have and love to bless others as I was blessed during those difficult times. I just have the drive to take care of people, it's just the circle that I can not break. My dream is to take my MIL & SIL for an all expense paid trip to WDW (incl. CL). They'll never experience it unless I do. We've been fortunate enough to take them with us on each of our other vacations and this is the first trip we are going solo . It just wasn't in the cards to take them this go around. I hope next year will be a completely different story & I'll be able to snatch them up and fly them off in grand style. My MIL has been my lifeline & I couldn't imagine life without her.

It is Saturday morning, and I am crying already! I do love these stories!

Kimberle>> I would request the same area previously mentioned. On Zebra trail, the first elevator you come to goes directly to the pool/arcade/mara area. It is also a short cut to Boma and Jiko if you happen to be at that end of the building and want to be outside for a bit.

Bamby>> I had to request the fridge and the robes, but they were there in a matter of minutes! Yes, that walk gets longer and longer, but I love the view from out there!

BTW>> ten year old boys' versions of shortcuts are NOT accurate. NEVER take the stairs near the pool if you're out in the fingers of the resort! Your legs are dead before you make the big walk!

I forgot who asked about "must does" for their trip. Ours are very simple items such as always touching Cinderella's slipper on the mosaic under the castle. (gives good luck!) When you exit MK you must always stand in the middle of Main Street with the castle centered when you say goodbye. Hot dogs at Caseys after the fireworks when you watch the crowd leave. There are more, but I can't think of them now! I do know DD asked if I had touched the slipper this trip since she wasn't with us. I had, and I will continue to do so! We started this when she was three and I am not stopping until I am unable to do so!

We have added new items. Ohanas is now a must do for EVERY trip! How did I miss this place for so many years? Also, watching Spectro from Pecos Bills has become another tradition. Finally did the haircut for DS.... Oh it was a riot! Great haircut too! The two CM's working there were top notch!

Happy Saturday! I set out smoothies and pastries for everyone, along with fresh coffee!

Sometimes when life gets hectic I just think about our trips to WDW.

DH and I often talk about how lucky we are to be able to take our kids to WDW as often as we do.

My parents saved and took us twice. We stayed off site and had the time of our lives. I never thought I'd be lucky enough to take my children more than once.

Debbie for us it's Casey's hot dogs for lunch as soon as we check in! We also do a photo in front of the landmark icon at each park (castle, spaceship earth, sorcerer's hat, tree of life) and the MK & Epcot photos have to include the current banner on the lampposts. DH has to stop in the lounge for a chocolate chip cookie before we head to MK on arrival day. (Hmm...there goes that food theme again...) I think we'll have to add the slipper tradition - we already stop at the wishing well on each trip. Maybe if we keep adding "must do's" we'll NEED to plan longer trips! The last night brings a monorail ride around the resort loop and a wave goodbye from the 2nd floor of the GCH at the Poly.

The stories on this thread ARE fantastic. These are the kind of intangibles that make us go back to WDW again & again. We, too, would rather spend our time & money on wonderful experiences and wonderful memories than on redundant "stuff." The bus driver story reminded me of our monorail experience in January that actually "continued" with the same monorail driver in March. We sent a letter of praise & appreciation to the Executive Offices, which they shared with the CM, who then forwarded to us through Guest Communications a beautiful, heartfelt thank you note and some autographed character photos for our niece. This thread and all you wonderful Lounge Lizards help me stay focused on those good things, especially when "real life" gets in the way. A big bouquet of good wishes to everybody here!

Memories...are definitely worth their weight in GOLD. We spend money on a lot of things in life...which other people find "silly" or unecessary. Our DD has always attended private school (catholic), and we have always traveled/vacationed consistently together throughout our lives. If I were to sit and think of all the money we have spent on such things over the years, I would still SMILE, and consider it money WELL invested. After all...you never miss, what you refuse to dwell-upon!

Many of the people we know, consider WDW a complete WASTE of $$$ & Time. They would Much rather use the money to support their own "personal" habits and hobbies, than to share it through experiences with their families/children. We are not even on the same "Planet" with these folks!

There is simply "nothing" to compare with the sweet, rich recall of fancy-free laughter, and time spent together in a pure and innocent sense of FREEDOM! I can literally spend hours, perusing family photos of our vacations, and recalling the exact moment "of each one" in time. I still get a chill when we "find" our BRICK in front of the MK each summer, and stand together peering down at a piece of "US" from the past (1994).

Countless, endless summers...shared together under the golden rays of ubiquitous sunshine on this continents largest sandbar. I would never trade these for ANYTHING. My memories of all of these visits, helps to create a common thread among us. We all share the desire to "let go" of the realities of LIFE...and escape to a place we find 'total & complete" release. This is exactly what Walt envisioned. We immerse ourselves 100+% in the wonder of "imagination, whimsey and folly!" We seem to completely lose sense of TIME/DATES and WORRIES! It is effectively a "rejuvenation" for the spirit and soul. It transforms us, and once we have completed the venture together, there is a sense of RENEWED vitality.

I recently watched a commercial, with children making statements such as: "pretty soon, I'll be leaving for college," "I'll have a family of my own," etc. It was an automobile advertisement, and conveyed the message LOUDLY and CLEARLY. Our children, are only "children" for a brief passage in life. Make and TAKE the time to explore, share and experience life while they are MAKING their own MEMORIES. These are the thoughts, which will sustain them when they are FAR FROM HOME, and Lonely, ETC. Like a veritable "blanket" of images, they can easily recall not only the faces, etc., but more importantly...the emotions which accompanied the moment. Feelings of security, nurturing, and LOVE will envelope them, and carry them through the "roughest" of seas.

KerryCM~Your post had me in tears, and I will send special prayers for you and your family. God bless your DD (and other family members) for her sacrifice in serving our great country. What a wonderful "tradition" you have continued...enjoying it all with your grandchildren as well.

floridafam~Yes, we are all BLESSED beyond our imagination! I too...never considered we could continue to travel to WDW from Calif...year, after year. Somehow, things would always "work-out" (Grace of God), and we would be on our way to the MAGIC! Kudos to you for working toward the same goal.

MUST-DO's @ WDW, include: TURKEY LEG in Tomorrowland on E-Ticket night, watching under the darkened sky as DH & DD "RACE" through the maze of bushes in the UK, while the last of the park's patrons leave the world showcase, enjoying sushi in the Cali Grill while watching the fireworks over the castle, playing together in the arcade of the CR, finding our BRICK in the walkway, filling in the days activities on a special summer vacation Calendar MAP...being sure to record any unusual/unique events/sayings! Also, special places we sit...and watch the world pass, coffee at the counter of the fountainview, as we wait-out the rain, visiting the Carousel of Progress, People mover, and spaceship earth...multiple times, hot cinnamon almonds/pecans, feeding the ducks our full bag of popcorn. BUT...the one which tops the list...is probably mine, and mine alone. It's watching the vacation video...again, and again, as I IMAGINE and PREPARE for our adventure together~! It's become an "inside joke" with us...for sure.

First of all, I want to thank you so much for all your pixie dust, prayers, and warm wishes. They mean so much to me!

Secondly, I completely agree with you all about the WONDERFUL memories! Most of my friends think I'm crazy to go to WDW all the time (we are young newlyweds), but I don't really care what they think. I don't need a fancy new car or a huge house--I will take WDW over those, thank you. I love and treasure each memory I have made there, so much so that we chose to get married at the World. It was a magical, memorable day that I will treasure always. As a matter of fact, my trips to WDW cost me lots of time and savings. We do not have a high income, we just save like crazy to afford our trips (both those "in style" and those on a budget). We simply think that WDW and the good times and memories it helps to generate are well worth the investment.

A magical memory of mine that I will never forget is from my trip in May of 2000 with my family and best friend. My parents enjoy WDW, but they certainly don't love it like I do. We had gone to Epcot for the day and had enjoyed a day of seeing the attractions. Soon it was time for the Tapestry of Nations parade, so we lined up to get a decent spot. I will never forget the look on my 50 year old mother's face when she saw those incredible puppets. She was smiling and clapping and waving to the puppets like a child. She was totally immersed in the joy of it all, and I was so happy to see her having such a good time. To this day, she still loves that parade music.

I am so happy I found this thread! Everyone is so kind, it's nice to see!
I have no one to talk to about our love for Disney, other than DH, our family thinks we are all nuts. There are so many memories that I hold dear to my heart, and that's why I am so excited for this upcoming trip. DD (5) doesn't remember our last trip and DD(1) is going for the first time, DS (8) will get to go to Star Wars weekend at MGM, and we booked a fireworks cruise for DS (12).
One of our traditions is that we have dinner at another resort our first night there. We are eating at WL this trip. I know my kids are going to love the Poly concierge, it may be a mistake because I will never be able to stay in a regular hotel room again.
I am already thinking about putting money away for our NEXT trip I don't know where, you all make every resort sound wonderful. I would love to stay at AKL, but there are six of us (one in a crib), do the concierge level rooms sleep five like the Poly? Then I think, the kids would love SAB, and DH is loyal so he would probably want to go back to the poly.
I told y'all that I am not telling the kids about the trip, well now I got a card from Goofy!!! It's burning a hole in my purse, it is killing me not to be able to show them.
So I will inflict all my hyper, ADD type behavior on all of you!

Well said! I could not agree with you more and I admire your perspective. The memories are priceless. I just hope that my girls feel the same way when they see how little we will have saved for their college education.

Elisabeth, I am so sorry to hear about your employment problems. I will be thinking of you and hoping that things improve really soon!

I have really enjoyed reading about the great vacation experiences from everyone. We were fortunate enough to go to WDW a few years ago with four generations of my family. It was the last vacation that my grandparents have been healthy enough to enjoy. My husband and I saved all year and paid for everyone to spend the week with us. It cost us a small fortune but it was the best money I have ever spent. Not many kids can say that they got their picture taken with their great grandparents and Mickey Mouse at the same time. The nicest part of the whole trip is that my grandparents were the ones who first took me to Disney. What an honor to be able to repay their kindness.

After a less than memorable trip to the Poly concierge in 2000 ( we had LOTS of problems) we have decided to give AKL concierge a try in June. AKL is our favorite resort so we are really looking forward to the Concierge. I have read lots of good things about it so it should be a great trip. 2 months from now we will be there!!! I can't wait.

Hey, gang!!

Just got back from orientation and enrollment for DS at CMSU!! I'm excited for him, and sad for myself at the same time!! He and his lovely fiance will be getting married July 18, going on their honeymoon, and heading to the college, all in a few months! Tough for an overprotective mama to let go!!

I have been reading all y'all's stories of your trips with your children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents and I am so happy for all of you!! I do not have such a wonderful relationship with my DM, and therefore will not get to have these memories to cherish. As much as I love her, she is not very good to my children, and that is hard to get around, for me.

But, we have a great, very close relationship with our children, and I feel the memories we have made during our travels have been a large part of that. That's why, when we paid off our comfortable, but not fancy, home, we chose to spend our disposable income on travel, rather than buy a bigger, fancier, house. All of our children will be out on their own, someday, and I believe the bond we've forged during our times together are much more important than impressing our neighbors and friends. Many of our family and friends also believe we are wasting our money going to WDW so much, but it's not wasted, for me. It's a treasured moment in time with my kids. I, too, have friends who never take their children on vacation with them, and cannot understand this concept. When we plan our vacations, these friends always ask why we don't go without the kids, and I tell them there will be plenty of time for that in a very short time...for now, I want to hold my children very, very close to me, before I have to let them go.

goodferry~"INFLICT~AWAY!!" I always feel the SAME as you, like it's a secret SUPPORT group for DISNEYAHOLICS...LOL. You're going to LOVE CL @ the POLY. It's one of our all~time favs. Have you been visiting the Tikiman's site? It's astounding!! Oh, it nearly killed me last summer, to keep our second Disney Cruise a SURPRISE from DD. It was her special secret Sweet "16" Birthday treat, and she was clueless. The look on her face, as we patiently explained to the "guard" at the last gate that we would ALL be cruising on the Wonder...was absolutely PRICELESS. Moments before that, she was completely content in her assumption I merely wished to take some "PICS" of the WONDER, as we had so many of the MAGIC! LOL... Talk about LOYAL...I even reserved the SAME Veranda ROOM number on Deck 5 (that we had on the MAGIC)! LOL. Trust me...it's worth the wait!

crs7568~They could always opt for the COLLEGE courses "ala DISNEY!" Every time we visit, this seems to appeal to DD more and more. She has met so many of the CM's whom are taking a sabbatical from College to complete the Disney Program. Certainly could not hurt a resume!

How fortunate for you indeed~! I wish we could have done the same, and was just "tickled" last summer when we hosted my MIL for a four~day stay with us at the Dolphin (Exec. Suite, CL). We had more than enough room, and she paid for her own Fla. Resident (lives in Punta Gorda) pass. She lost her DH just 7 months prior...and it was great to see her smiling and laughing.

luvdzny~oh, you are going to fall in LOVE with the AKL CL. We have yet to stay, but everyone else speaks so highly of the place, we are planning a visit. We are going to reserve a suite, and take the evening safari! We visited for the first time last summer, and were overwhelmed by the place. We ate in Boma's, and shopped, viewed the animals at night, and sat in the cozy lobby. The CM's were the most helpful, friendly and welcoming folks. You will FALL IN LOVE with the place, I'm sure!

k&a&c'smom~I know how you feel, as DD is 16, and already embarking on her college selection process. It's a double-edged sword...bittersweet. We give our children two precious things, ROOTS...and WINGS. My daughter is ready to FLY. Tonight, as she prepared for the prom...I could hardly believe the girl in the gown, etc., was my little DD~! I can recall my own proms so vividly...it seems as if I'm not "old" enough to have a daughter attending one of these functions. (yes, I AM!). Why, just yesterday she was learning to "color inside the lines." Where...oh where, does the time go?

I'm so sorry you do not have a close relationship with your DM. It happens, and we can not choose our parents. I'm so happy you protect your children, and provide the special memories for them by making the MAGIC happen. I'm at a loss why others do not feel the same? They constantly ask DH & I WHY we do not take trips alone? Because...sooner than later, this will be our only option. For now...we choose to spend our time with the one blessed "gift" we created together. The one God bestowed upon us...and entrusted us to take care of, and provide for, etc. We have always taken the responsibility to heart, just as you have. It works for us!

There is one more very special reason we feel compelled...nearly DRAWN to WDW each summer...~As each time we leave, a small part of us is left behind. There, in the season's changing shadows...it remains. Constant and clear, like an etching in stone. It's a "vault" of sorts...where pieces of our past are preserved...perfectly. Every summer we go HOME to WDW again, I catch "glimpses" of the three of us throughout the parks and places. Our "yesterday" selves....our lives together. Time has been kind, and the clock has remained "still & quiet, awaiting our return."

Perhaps it happens when we are walking down mainstreet...and I slowly turn my head back to catch the quick shadow of DD at the age of "5" with ribbons in her hair...and her daddy's hand gently holding hers. Or maybe, as we walk through the Countries of Epcot and the world showcase...I hear her sweet childlike voice call out, "look mommy and daddy, it's a mickey cloud!" as she points to the azure~blue summer sky adrift with the billowy clouds. Then again, it could be the moment we are boarding the monorail, and I reach down to pick her up and hold her in my arms after a day of LIFE in the MAGIC. I see "US", the way we were...14 years before, 10 years...maybe even the previous summer.

Just knowing, in this sometimes MAD, MAD world...there remains a place where the ground is almost sacred, hallowed, where continuity is FREE-FLOWING, and the very life-essence of families protected/preserved...is one of the most comforting aspects in my world.

We spent the majority of our time at Vero Beach. It is truly a wonderful place. All of you lizards should try it.

DF--now I need tissues! Beautifully written. We have been all over Tikiman's site, it is amazing. We have been in close contact with Melissa at IPO, she has been amazing, as BT mentioned earlier. I can't say enough about how much they have done for us, and we aren't even there yet!
k&a&c's mom-- Although I have a close relationship with my mom, things are extremely strained with my mil lately, although I have tried to protect him, dh is starting to see her for who she is and it is sad. She has chosen not to have a relationship with any of her grandchildren, and I feel very sorry for her for that reason. She would hate WDW.
