Seems like they have been opening several a week for months. What will the final total be?

Not sure of the total, but there are A LOT more than the original DTD. A rough guess from out recent visit would be 30-40 and that may be low. We were there a couple weeks ago and have decided it is now a place to avoid. Back when it was DTD, it was small and mostly Disney themed and fun to hang out some while on vacation. Now it is nothing more than another outlet center, at least to us. So, we will just remove it from our plans in the future.

That is exactly what I am worried about. It was always a destination for us during every trip but I'm not sure now. We will try it on our next trip because the kids insist on Goofys Candy Shop. I want to get a Christmas ornament and we have an ADR at trex. But I'm scared it will be so non disney that we will be ripped from the "Disney bubble". I don't want any glimmer of reality while we are on vacation and I think a regular mall with tons of stores most copied from home will deny my vacation mood.

I agree, it certainly seems that way
The original announcement from Disney said there would be an additional 150 shops and restaurants in Disney Springs

Looks like 168 options currently at Disney Springs for shopping, dining, etc according to the Disney website.

While we are on the subject, as far as CS meals is there a way to find out which restaurants do or don't take the ddp?

I sort of feel the same way. We'll still go to WOD/Art Of Disney/Christmas shop, but my interest falls off after that. I'm interested in what happens with Fulton's, we used to love it when it was the Empress Lily.

On our trip last September, I was really dreading going to the new Disney Springs, I liked the old way, don't change it *I thought*. We went to Boathouse and I was amazed at the changes. I love the new bridge and lighting, and the entire area felt alive with music. There was a band that had a dance party going on, individual singers here and there, and I felt like there was an electricity in the air. I bought my first pair of Sanuk sandals -love those. On a different night on the bridge there was an amazing photopass Photagrapher from Scotland who was hilarious and we got the most awesome pictures. That was before the new mall area opened, so my hope is that it will still have the same fun vibe. We have an outlet mall about 20 miles down the road from us-it even has a Ghirardeli's though it's not the same treat as being in WDW. I don't typically go on vacation to shop, at least not to Disney.

When my husband and I were there last October we felt the same exact way as you! The atmosphere was exciting and I agree about the electricity in the air. We were really excited and glad that the Port Orleans resorts are our favorites because of the boat connecting to Disney Springs. We just got back from a trip in June and oh my goodness I felt so overwhelmed! I grew up in central Florida so Downtown Disney was somewhere my friends and I frequented. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt to get it all finished but it was PACKED and like others wanted to get into my staples and back on the boat to French Quarter. I know I'm not the target audience and won't be buying things from the 'outlet' type stores but I will be sad if I feel overwhelmed every time I go. Hopefully it was just a crazy summer day!

We were there in early June and we really liked the new parking structures and the look and feel of the new areas. But one thing we noticed about the new stores are they are all higher end stores that charge bookoo dollars for everything. Just like you Tigger, I don't feel like I'm part of the target audience. I like to splurge on vacation but $80 bucks for a polo shirt is just stupid...imo.

If you arrive at DS via Disney bus, you'll end up in the "bubble" area.

If you arrive by car, park in the Orange garage and you'll end up on the Westside but that way you can avoid the new DS area as you walk through.

Be sure to avoid the new DS mall-like area unless you want to eat at D-Luxe Burgers. We walked through the new section but never saw the Poutine Fries shop. We ended up at Hangar Bar to enjoy the theming and small bites menu.

Oh, it is absolutely gorgeous! They definitely did a wonderful job! I love the 'springs' and the style of the buildings are beautiful. I agree...they aren't traditional get a deal outlet stores...there are definitely a lot of VERY HIGH END retail stores in there! We will continue to spend our money on our hotel at Disney, food/drinks, fun souvenirs, and tickets but will most likely not frequent the regular retail stores...and that's okay!

I think they have done a great job with Disney Springs. With 168+ offerings that is waaay more than they had there before. No way they could have a ton of Disney themed shops with that many in play. Disney usually only does one small addition at a time to an area of DW. In Disney Springs case they went BIG regardless of whether we like all the offerings. These days anytime Disney goes BIG I am happy after all those lean years where they didn't seem to do anything at all.

I'm like most and will skip the high end retail shops. Looking forward to the new restaurants they. Some aren't on the WDW site to book? At least I can't find them :rolleyes2

Are you looking for something specific? Morimoto Asia, Boathouse, STK, and Frontera Cocina are listed as available TS in DS.

we are slowly making our way through the new restaurants, we are usually on a small budget so have tried all new quick service locations. Can rate them, for us, from best to meh (not worst just ok)
For sweet stuff:
AristoCrepes (the keylime cheesecake one, yum)
Amorette's Patisserie
Sprinkles (fine but overrated and overpriced)
For savory stuff:
Tie between DLuxe Burgers (both burgers and chicken sandwich really good, and big no need for fries) and B.B. Wolf (we only tried the Bavarian sausage sandwich but it was really good)
The Daily Poutine (just ok)

Sit down we have done:
Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar (love all the food items)
Boathouse (loved what we ordered but a bit pricey for us)

Places we want to go next:
Morimoto (trying to convince my sister to treat me to a meal there, the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous )
Frontera Cocina
STK (walked inside and it looks so trendy, not sure if we'll ever eat here, it's so expensive for us)

I'm on My Disney Experience right now. The only one of these showing up for me is The Boathouse and Morimoto. I must be doing something wrong :magnify:
