Not completed our itinerary yet, but it will include some national parks in Utah and Idaho, a slow drive down the Cali Coast on Hwy 1, a tour of Disney Studios, Catalina Island, DLR/DCA, and finish up with a Hawaiian cruise.

Be aware that there is a section of Big Sur between Carmel and Monterey (a favorite scenic stretch) that is closed. You can see parts of Big Sur but you'll have to turn around from whichever side you start (Carmel or Monterey). I'm not sure of the specifics, though, and maybe it'll be open by the time you go.

Yes, we're familiar with Hwy 1 and Big Sur, probably the greatest drive on Planet Earth. Caltrans is having to do a huge amount of reconstruction at Regent's Slide. IIRC, that area has historically been the most problematic since the road was built. We're keeping our fingers crossed, hoping it will be open. If not, we'll detour.
