I am an active duty CWO4 in the USN with 25 years in. Would like to read some responses of those who are serving as well as the hero's that have served in the past. I personally have 9 Mediterranean Cruises since 1980 and am a Production Officer for the F/A-18 engine repair facility in CA. Without question WDW is my favorite place to unwind after a 6 month adventure. pirate:

My husband and I are both retired Air Force, currently my oldest son is Active Duty Air Force with 5 years under his belt, he is planning on making a career out of it. My brother is on his last hitch in the Marines and will be retiring in a couple of years. My brother is an MP, the rest of us aircraft avionics specialist of one type or another.

Hi CWO4DVC!
I'm not military, but have enjoyed some of the benefits of military members. I've stayed several times at Sog at WDW and also at the Hali Koa in Hawaii. My dad is retired army (ww2,Korea,vietnam wars) and coast guard 20+ years with each branch of service, and my mom is still working for the gov't as housing mng. So for my 30 something years, I've been blessed.:wave2:

With such a great deal at SOG, I doubt you will find many military personnel here. If they are active duty not many would be able to make use of the DVC points plus most would not have the money to do so. It will be interesting to see how many are active duty and DVC members.

Well here is one DVC member who is active duty. . . :teeth:

I am in the Air Force right now. I was a Navy "brat" for 21 years too so I guess you could say I have been affiliated with some form of military service my entire life.

I have never been to SoG so I cannot compare it to DVC resorts in general but I can say I do enjoy my time at Disney!!

My husband is retired Coast Guard. We are DVC members. We use points to stay a the DVC resorts Sun- Friday and will stay at Sog on the weekends. Stayed at the Contemporary SOG wing the last 2 years. Have never stayed at SOG but are looking forward to it at the end of Aug.

Active duty here and DVC owners. SOG is a great deal, but I want a kitchen and W/D available during my vacation!

Hi, my husband is active duty Navy and currently deployed to the Gulf. The thing I'm looking forward to is our Disney vacation in January. We are planning a cruise and 5 days at the parks after he gets home. He will be home in July after a 6 month cruise. He just went back on to sea duty and while on shore duty, we went on a Disney cruise. He has been looking for Mickey on his ship but hasn't found him yet.:boat:  He vows to keep looking. I'm the Disney fan in the family but DH is getting there. It's nice having DVC to use for vacations becuase it's flexible, and if there was ever a group who needed flexibility, it's the military family!

God bless all who are currently deployed, and still back at home. It's truly a sacrifice that you make for your country.

I'm a military brat and dh is in the AF. SOG is a great deal but like the last poster I'd like a w/d and kitchen. Plus SOG will go up, but once we're done paying for DVC, we're done.

Exactly! And who knows if SoG will be around in 42 years!

Active duty and DVC here too! DH is a marine Harrier pilot as well as a Marine Corps brat. SOG has some very nice rooms, but lacks the awesome theming that the Disney hotels offer. More importantly, SOG lacks 1 and 2 bedroom units with full kitchens! Last time we stayed at SOG our youngest DD was still in a crib and wouldn't go to sleep with the whole family in the same room. We ended up moving the crib into the closet so she'd settle down. Now DDs are 5 and 7. We tuck them into their bed, shut the door and enjoy a glass of wine with the TV on in our bedroom. Do I even need to mention the jacuzzi? I love my DVC!

Hi - my husband is retired Air Force and I served a few years as well. We never used SOG - tried once but there were no rooms available, and all the rules for reservations seemed like too much trouble (typical military ;-)

Even when we were active duty, our favorite vacation spot was WDW. So now we love going every year to our "home" at BCV.

Blessings to all those who serve!!

DH is retired Air Force. We have also taken advantage of rooms at SOG but just recently passed ROFR on a resale @ OKW. We first toured DVC seven years ago and were very interested but did not buy due to active duty status. Now that we have entered into a different phase in our lives, we look forward to having many wonderful trips to WDW and staying in deluxe accomodations that we could not have afforded while on Uncle Sam's payroll!!!

Hi,

My DH is retired Coast Guard. We plan to use SOG for

weekends, and enjoy vacations at all of the DVC properties.

We look forward to spending time at Vero Beach and Hilton Head

over the next few years, and we liked the variety that DVC

had to offer.

With a family full of growing boys, having a 2 bedroom will become

a necessity in the very near future, and in the long run we figured

that DVC would be the most affordable option.

We can hardly wait for May!

Active Duty and DVCer here too. I've stayed at SoG a few times and had a wonderful time there. However, their prices have started to creep up a bit and we've made out better lately at some of the WDW resorts thanks to military specials. I guess we became spoiled and bought into SSR after our last trip.

I am active duty U.S. Public Health Service. Being eligible to stay at SOG has probably encouraged us to buy fewer DVC points (enough to stay at BWV every other year or so).

Both resorts are wonderful, and we love the option to alternate between them!

DH is active duty F-16 pilot with the USAF. He is currently on a one year remote tour to Kunsan AB, Korea.....less than a month now until the end of that assignment!
We love Disney! We try to get there at least once each year when we are stationed stateside. We decided to buy into DVC this past August. We will have our first trip home in June..also planning a three day cruise in September and a week long visit in October. Luckily our next duty station is Moody AFB in Valdosta, Georgia - having a short drive to Disney will make it easy for quick getaways!

DH is active duty Army. Also was an Air Force brat.
He is currently Battalion NCOIC for Northeast AMED Recruiting.
That is Medical Recruiting for the Army.
Twelve years until retirement!!!! Yeah!

We bought DVC to use as a way to gather family together.
Our family is scattered around the US. Texas (three different cities), Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Jersey and Pennsylvania--where we are stationed.
One family member was even in Japan for two years.
We love being able to share our trips to WDW with the people we love. And they love being able to visit with us, and especially our kids.
