How many miles to walk?

We took a pedometer a few years ago, and averaged around 10 miles per day (our highest was 14!).

I have seen on other posts where they averaged 13 miles per day. My DBF and I have been going to the gym religiously to get in shape for this marathon!

I read somewhere that the average is 5 miles, and that sounds, and feels, about right to me.

Yes, I think 5-7 miles is more accurate. The pedometers tend to overestimate the mileage. For instance, if you stand in a line for 1/2 a mile and step forward one person at a time very slowly, that's very different than walking briskly for 1/2 a mile.

Thanks for the info. I will keep working out, but now I don't have to worry so much about walking 13 miles a day!

We used our pedometer in May and averaged 10 miles a day with the most being 15 miles. It is pretty accurate, as we tested it prior to leaving. We do, however, walk as much as possible. Avoiding busses. We stay at the Beach Club and walk to Epcot and MGM, and usually walk through Epcot to the monorail to go to MK.

I am going to wear my pedometer this upcoming trip (ONLY 12 DAYS LEFT!) I am curious to see how much we walk, since it seems that the results do vary greatly!

I always bring mine and forget to wear it! It depends on time of year. I believe that World Showcase is 1.2 miles around, and I can easily walk around five or six times on a winter day. I also avoid busses, and will walk from WS to MGM rather than take the boat. If my car is at an Epcot resort, I don't take the boat, walking is faster.

I also don't follow any sort of touring plan, just criss cross around as a whim takes me, which adds on to the walking. I am also a rather fast walker with a long stride, and typically have people running behind me to keep up :teeth:

Remember, it's the standing in line rather than the walking which usually takes it toll on feet.

From May to September, however, my walking decreases dramatically!

My husband and I are park commandos, and we average around 11 miles per day. This is mainly because we walk around Epcot's World Showcase more than once every day we are there, and we visit at least one other park every day.

We also tend to walk to and from our hotel rather than take the boat launch if there isn't a boat in sight (we always stay Epcot Lagoon).

There is a lot of walking, no matter how you look at it, and if you aren't prepared for it you'll end up with swollen ankles and a ride on the bellman's cart back to your hotel room.

I, too, have used a pedometer that has been "verified" by walking at home. Besides myself, our family has a DS9, DS4, DH, DM(76).

We usually walk about 6 to 7 miles per day while at WDW.

We try to limit criss-crossing, but it does happen some. Our top mileage has been over 9 miles and that has happened at Epcot a couple of times and at AK once.

I so agree with another post - I'd take walking over standing anyday :)

How many miles per day, per park, do you think the average person walks in Disney World?
Not sure...how far do you think the walk is to the Mexico Pavillion's Fiesta Margarita booth and then to the nearest bench? That'd be my typical milage for Epcot! :teeth:
