Let me start of by saying I LOVE taking pictures! Me, my DH and DD2 are taking our first trip to Disney in a few days and I dont know how many memory cards I need. I have one that holds 1000 pictures... I feel like I might need to get another one because we are there for 9 days...does anyone have any experience on this subject??

You can take your memory card to one of the camera centers and have your photos downloaded to a cd while you're there. It would be cheaper than buying another memory card, I'd think.

I would think 1 and a spare would be good....I am always paranoid one will get corrupted, even though it has never happened. If you can, consider downloading your pics to an online site or disc to protect your pics. You can also buy them there if needed.

Always take a spare, because you never know when you will need it! If your other card gets filled, you can pop out the spare and not miss that very special moment!

I'm planning on buying probably 6-7 1-gb cards to take... just so that I can use a fresh card each day, in case I would lose my camera.... that way I'd only be losing that day's pics, and not the whole trip.

I know I definitely won't be filling those cards... but with 1-gb cards only costing $8-9 each, it'll be worth it to me not to have to worry about taking a laptop along, or downloading them somewhere each night, etc.

Yes, I was going to suggest having them put on a CD as well - definitely would be cheaper than buying another memory card that you would otherwise not need. :) Or, if you have a laptop you could bring it and load your pictures to it in your hotel each night - that's what we plan on doing anyway. That way when I get home from the trip, my pics are already there just waiting to be printed! :goodvibes

I never even thought of anything happening to the one I had... thanks. Now I will HAVE to get another one!!

I bring at least 2 cards (2GB each) for our weeklong trips, usually more. This year I'm going to bite the bullet and bring along the laptop so I can unload our pictures each day because I know my mom will be taking just as many pictures as me (if not more).

But we are obsessive about pictures...just returned from a long weekend trip to the mountains and I took 600+, my mom took 900+. :scared1:

Long time lurker, first time poster!

I have a couple of 4GB cards I take with me. I have a Canon S3 IS and shoot a lot of video also. That eats up space. I use 1 card for pics and 1 for videos. I can get about 1200 pics on 1 card. We take LOTS of pics!!

On our 8-day to 13-day trips, we usually take in excess of 1000 photos.

Definitely NOT cheaper to do that at WDW.

Disney charges a fortune to do this.

I can buy 1GB cards for under $10 each and still have them for use after I return home.

This is so true. Last year I forgot my extra memory card in the room, and needed to put my pictures on a CD.

I went into the Exposition Hall at MK to do this. I used the Kodak machine, and since the memory card holds so many pictures, I need more than 1 CD. I don't remember the exact price, but I know my total was around $25-$30 for those CDs.

Welcome to the DIS! It's nice to meet someone who is as nuts about picture taking as I am! :thumbsup2

Last trip I took two 4gb cards so I would have a backup. I took the laptop so I could download the photos as needed. I took 500-600 photos with each RAW file taking 20+MBs. So what you need to take depends on the size of the photos you are taking and how many photos a day you think you will take. We where at WDW for seven days.

For us, a 4GB card hold 230ish photos. Which is a lot to take in one day so I'll slowly buy 4GB cards as they are needed and over time they will just get cheaper. Having a card per day is a good idea if you can use cheaper cards.

Later,
Dan

I have never filled one up. I ussually take short 5 minute videos of grandkids with the characters and just goofing in the parks. I did try to get the Shara a Dream Come True parade last year with a 2GB card and it didn't get all of it. That's why I jumped on the 4GB cards. They have come down in price. Now I'm waiting for the 8GB card to get down to about $40 then I'll jump on one of those bad boys!

I'd take another one. I take about 1,000 pictures on a ten-day trip, so one may be enough. But I wouldn't want to run out of space, and have to buy another card in Disney, they are much too expensive down there. I have two 2GB cards for my next trip, enough for almost 3,000 pictures, much more then I need, but at only $20 each, they were worth getting. KWIM?

It of course depends on what kind of card you need. I use an SD card and can find them for that price (or free, if you hit a buy.com 9.99 sale and use google checkout for $10 off), which is why we have something like 6 2GB cards.

But my old digital camera takes an xD card and that was *bank* to replace (right before I lost it).

I'll be taking three cards and clearing them off at the end of each day by downloading them to my laptop and then burning a CD using the laptop. But I'm a bit nuts with the photo thing. I don't work in RAW, but I do get large files.

If you need extra cards, then change cards BEFORE you need to. Would you rather use up every pixel of space on a memory card, or would you rather have a fresh card with space for as many pictures as you want when a once in a lifetime magic moment happens?

Cards with the brand name sticker facing out are blank and ready for use. Cards facing in have data on them and should not be put into a camera again.

Batteries with the + end up are good, those with the + end down are dead.

With systems like these, you can tell when you need to re-charge batteries and when you are running out of memory cards at a glance.
