How many memory cards???

If you can afford to pick up a few more cards before your trip, I would recommend it. Get whatever you think you need, then double it to be on the safe side. Some people like to take smaller pictures so they can fit more on the card, but if you take the smaller picture you lose the ability to do as much cropping. I.E. if you take a 4x6 picture size, can't really crop out the stranger and still print a 4x6 where as if you were shooting an 8x10 pretty good chance you can crop em out and still print a good 4x6. I would recommend carrying a few smaller cards instead of one big card. Big cards do work good when you are shooting very very hi res/RAW pictures at high speed. However, as PP's have said, if something happens to that one card, all your pictures are lost. If you have a few smaller ones you only lose a portion of them. Backing them up to another source as soon as possible is also recommended.

For a 6MB P&S, 2-4 GB should be enough for the trip. I would get either 1 or 2 GB cards.

You can take your memory card to one of the camera centers and have your photos downloaded to a cd while you're there. It would be cheaper than buying another memory card, I'd think.

Have to disagree with you.....I read it costs $12.95 to have them put your memory card to a CD......and all you walk away with is a CD (which you have to carry around now and hopefully not scratch!).

If you spend twice that (about $25) you can purchase a 2 gig memory card and when you get home you have your pictures AND another memory card to reuse. (and for price I went to Best Buy's website, I KNOW you can do better than $25 if you shop around...I paid about $15 last December for 2gig).

I usually bring my laptop when I travel anyway....so I just download my camera each night to my laptop....that way I don't have to worry about losing my camera (through my own stupidity or someone stealing it)...I'll have only lost that day's pictures, not my whole trip! Plus it frees up my memory card for more pictures. I carry two 2gig memory cards...one is in my pack and one in the camera. So far I've only filled up the first card once and needed the second card....but I was very very grateful that I had that second one so I didn't ever have to pause and decide whether to take a picture or not....I just snapped away, knowing the chances of taking 3000 pictures in one day were pretty slim, lol.

We just took one memory card and downloaded it everynight to our laptop. That way we could see the pictures everyday and see if they turned out or not. Once they were downloaded and backups were made, we deleted them off the card and were ready to go for the next day.

We also used the photopass people a lot while there. They took AWSOME pictures, and then you get to be in them as well....or in my case, be able to video tape those precious memories as well.
