Hello all,

How many DVC Members are there now?
Curious to know if this has been published recently. I seem to remember there being about 150,000 members back around 2004-05 and that it climbed to around 300,000 in 2010-11?

There's also a distinction between separate contracts and how many people per contract, and/or contracts per person(s)

I think the numbers above were for individual contracts/deeds.

Thanks!

Unknown, Disney has published different numbers at different times. We don't know which numbers are true.

I just did a brief google search and could not find recent info. Last number I seem to recall was close to 400,000. Please don't take that to the bank, but I have a bunch of friends that work at DVC, and it seems that is a number I heard from them. As Disneynutz mentioned, numbers vary because there is a number of member "families" (seeing a member family as one unit) and then there is the number of members, which is the number of persons listed on actual DVC deeds. I have heard DVC quote "member families" and "DVC Members".

There is a way of getting a somewhat accurate number of the total number of members (not memberships) as of Dec of each year but it requires having a number from the annual budget for each resort sent to owners of each resort. There is a budget item called "DVC Reservation Component." The total dollar number given for that budget item tells you the total number of members (not just memberships, e.g., husband and wife owners counts as two) that own at the resort because the charge made is $1 per member. I have the totals for Dec 2017:

AKV 46,438
BLT 35,974
BCV 18,584
BWV 29,288
BRV 11,910
VGF 17,519
OKW 43,942
Poly 25,666
SSR 85,538
VB 11,570
HH 8,707
VGC 7,513
Aulani 34,045
CCV 6997

Total: 383,691

That would be as of Dec 2017. The total for each resort would count as one a member who has multiple contracts for the resort in the same use year, but might double count those owners at the resort with more than one use year. The grand total for all resorts would also double count those who own at more than one resort.

This is fascinating. Why is BRV so low? I did not get the sense it is a particularly small resort - I always thought VGF was the "smallest" in terms of # of units, on WDW property.

BRV with 136 villas is larger than VGF with 100. However, BRV rooms that can be used as studios outnumber VGF 65 to 47 and only VGF has GV's. Nevertheless, the biggest difference in number of owners between the two is the result of VGF: (a) having a much larger number of points to sell due to its much larger points per night requirements; (b) having an exorbitant price per point in comparison to BRV; (c) having a much lower minimum point purchase requirement, 100 and sometimes as lows as 50 in comparison to BRV's 160 when it was being sold in the early 2000's; with the result (d) that exponentially more purchasers at VGF bought the minimum number of points just to be able to get studios, while many more of the purchasers at BRV bought more than its higher minimum with the desire to get larger rooms. The other result is that VGF owners now know that Disney's legal "oversell" of studios at VGF has resulted in their not being able to get studios sometimes even at 11 months out.

You will notice that the more apt comparison for BRV is to BCV, the third smallest resort at WDW, since neither has GV's and both were sold near the same time in the early 2000's. BRV has about 65% of the total number of BCV rooms, 208, and about 62% of the total number of members at BCV, 18,584.
