How many loads of laundry do you do each week?

I do 7-8 loads a week. Our water bill in the winter is about $350 in the winter every three months and in the fall/spring/summer $400-$550 with our outside water running regularly. The bill us separately for indoor and outdoor use and we also pay for city water(no well) so it increases our price. We are a family of 5.

15? And we have an extra large front loader. I do laundry 365 days of the year. Dd12 and dd13 have dance at least 5 days a week, ds12 has soccer/basketball/baseball practice every day, ds16 has 2 soccer seasons with daily practices, and then there are towels and sheets.

There are 4 of us and I do 9-12 loads of laundry each week. The amount of laundry 2 little boys can produce is astounding. That total includes washing sheets for 3 beds weekly, towels, hubby's work clothes, gym/workout wear, throw blankets, towels, etc. we have a well so no water bill.

4-6 loads for 4 of us.

whites(son wears only white t-shirts and socks etc.) light colours, colours 9 towels mostly) , 2 loads of darks( jeans, uniforms etc)

Then though the sheets we maybe over the 6

All wash is done on the weekend unless a uniform is needed during the week for my son who works at Mc Donald's.

a week with hubby traveling, it's just me and the twins and we do at least one load a day. Who knew teenage boys were so stinky! On the weekends, we add another 3-4 loads as we wash our sheets/bedding once a week. With hubby home, some days it's 2 loads. We run about $45 a month on water bill

You wash the mattress pads & blankets every 2 weeks?

I wash mine every week. One load will fit my king size duvet cover, fitted sheet, mattress pad and 4 pillow cases. Same with my two daughters bedding, 1 load fits sheets, pillowcase and comforter. My son is in charge of his own laundry, I am sure it gets washed FAR less frequently:headache:

We are a family of four. We do about 8-10 loads a week. Summer is more like 10 loads because of Pool towels and sports uniforms.

I think a huge factor is how often people wash towels/bedding.

Towels everyday and bedding every week produces a lot more laundry than towels once a week and bedding every two or three.

I know it's not super environmental but I cannot reuse towels, we never did growing up in my house so it's how I was raised and now I can't bring myself to use them more than once.

I think our washer/dryer rarely stops, lol. There are 5 of us. I wash my own clothes so maybe 2 loads every 10 days or so. More when I wash bedclothes/comforter. DD washes a lot what with school uniforms and work clothes and towels.
And yes my dear grandson sometimes does wash only 1 item.......and he also uses the dryer as his personal wrinkle remover....drives us all crazy.

Where do people find the TIME to do 15 loads in one week?

I find it difficult enough to do 3 in one evening and I start at 5:00pm, and the rest of my week is spoken for, between my own exercise, making meals, cleaning dishes, doing crafts and playing with the child, etc.

We do our sheets every week. We never wear an article of clothing more than once (jeans included). So every day there are pajamas, work clothes, after work clothes, dish towels, bath towels, etc. Every week sheets, sometimes mattress cover and blankets.

Then every month or two I do the floor mats. It's a lot of laundry!

I do 1-2 loads per day for a family of 5. Rarely is there a day that I don't do laundry. It is just a part of the daily routine. I sort by colored towels, whites (including white towels), lights, darks and bedding. I think that must have been how my mother sorted. I didn't realize not everyone did that. I try to do only full loads. My teenage daughter will occasionally want to wear something that hasn't been washed and will throw in just a couple of items. That ticks me off--full loads only!

How can you only do 1-2 loads of laundry a week? I do 8-10. DS does his own laundry, so that is another 3-4 a week.

I do laundry for 3 people.

What I want to know is how the heck are you getting by with only 1-2 loads a week?:rotfl:

We have 6 people living here (3 who are teens who take long daily showers and one 8 year old who likes to take a bath sometimes), we go through ALOT of water (we also run the dishwasher 1-2 times a day).

Between the sheets, towels, clothes, work clothes, school uniforms ect. we easily do 15+ loads of laundry a week.:faint:

From reading this thread I think it is partly because we appear to wear less clothing? I see people talk about multiple outfits per day.

I wear jeans and a tshirt daily because I stay at home. DS wears one outfit a day unless he gets something on it that stains or is wet. He is only 3 so his clothes are smaller too. We wear pajamas and jeans more than once around here. Well, DH and I do, DS's pants are never able to be worn twice. We also reuse towels. DH wears his work clothes to work and if we are doing anything that requires leaving the house after work (casual dinner, trip to Lowes) he keeps his work clothes on. When he is done leaving the house for the night his pajamas go on.

Bedding is an every 2 week wash, but DS has a toddler bed so all he has is a tiny little fitted sheet and a pillow case. Comforters and such get washed less frequently.

I only wash when I have a full load, not because I am consciously trying to save water, but folding and putting away laundry is my least favorite thing to do. I'd rather do it all at once rather than several smaller times.

I think we did more laundry when I was working because I don't normally wear my dress pants more than once plus I also had after school wear because we used to go to Disney one or two times per week after school.

We each wear one outfit per day, plus pajamas. In the summer, when we're out and about a lot more after DH gets home from work, he'll maybe change out of work clothes, but this time of year, it is one outfit a day for all of us.

Laundry is only an all day thing if I make it that way. I can wash and dry a load in an hour and 15 mins, so if I stay on top of changing the loads, it doesn't take that long.

We got our first full water and sewer bill this week. Less than $100 for the quarter, so a little over $30/month.

We went to my parents house for dinner and they happened to have their water and sewer bill on the fridge. It was almost double what ours was. This of course led to us trying to figure out why theirs was so high.

My dad made a comment about "don't you guys shower?" which of course my DH took personally, because that is the relationship they have, but that is another thread!

Just to be sure they were actual usage bills and not estimated, my dad called the city. They are actual usage. They said normal usage for 1 person is 10 units. They used 22 units and we used 8 units.

We tried to figure out the difference and we think it is the laundry. They do 7+ loads and we do 1-2. It is just the two of them and they are retired but my mom works at a shoe store. We have the 3 of us and DH works but DS and I are home.

So, that got me thinking, how many loads of laundry to you do and how many people are in your family?

Three people and 2 dogs.

Before you laugh we have "dog towels" to wash for the week, just with wiping their paws. That is one load right there. Heaven forbid if it rains or snows. Ramp that up to 2-3 loads just for the dogs. Muddy paws and wet fur. :crazy2:

Our washer holds about 7-8 towels max. We do not reuse towels either. So that is about 3 loads there, plus the load for the dogs, and we are doing 4 loads/week just for towels.

Now you have bedding. Like today, I am washing all my bedding. 3 blankets and a load of sheets. That is 4 loads for today, just with bedding.

Clothes and PJs run us 2 loads a day. Bras themselves are a load a week.

Jackets, coats, bath rugs, sweaters, delicates, etc... Laundry is never ending, lol.

An average week is at least 15 loads for us. More if we are doing heavy cleaning, bedding, etc.

I find it difficult enough to do 3 in one evening and I start at 5:00pm, and the rest of my week is spoken for, between my own exercise, making meals, cleaning dishes, doing crafts and playing with the child, etc.

We have "smart meters" here which means it is cheaper to do laundry after 7pm and on weekends. Doing laundry really doesn't take much time. I throw a load in at 7pm, into the dryer at 8pm and spend 5 min putting it away at 9pm. If I do a second load it gets put away the next day. Then I so several loads on the weekends.

About a load a day, on average. Some days we don't do any, but we often do 3-4 during a weekend. 2 adults, 2 kids - both of us work outside of the house, plus the kids have a dress code at school and afterschool activities that they often change clothes for (e.g. soccer practice clothes).

I used to do 17 loads a week, on average - that's for five of us. We would do 2 loads a day + sheets and blankets every other week. Just the sheets and blankets were another 8-10 loads; for my king-sized bed, for example, the sheets were one load (I would throw all the towels I could fit in there as well), the duvet was one, and our 2 blankets were a load. Throw in three other beds and that's how I'm getting 17. We had a small, non-HE 15 year old washer and dryer set.

However, in November I bought the largest HE washer on the market and a gigantic dryer to go with it :) Now I'm down to 8 loads a week, which is AWESOME. I can do my sheets and duvet as one load and everything else as another. I love my new washer and dryer!
