We own at OKW and love the gv there. Last trip we had 7 people and it was so comfortable. I was just wondering if anyone has "fully packed" a GV. Was it ok? too crowded? The only reason I ask is next trip, my DD's extended family may want to join us. I'm just thinking the people in the living room would be uncomfortable if they're not early risers or if they want to go to bed early.

Everyone has their own tolerance levels. I would think the main things you need to avoid are:
- Asking people to share a bed who are uncomfortable doing so
- Asking people to share a room who are uncomfortable doing so
- Having people sleeping in public spaces (living room, loft, etc.) if it will inconvenience others. If you like to kick back on the living room sofa for a few hours before bed, can't do that if the LR is someone's bedroom. Also if someone tends wake up early and likes to make a pot of coffee or breakfast, can't necessarily do that if another guest is still asleep on the sofa.

Yea, the 'heads on beds' question at DVC resorts is always something to consider. If you're having someone sleep on the pullout in the main living area of the OKW GV, it could get interesting in the mornings and bedtime. It's possible you might be better off (if you have the points) doing 2 2BRs.

I'd like to avoid people in the living room. I'm thinking my 2 DD (w/spouses) share a room and give the second bedroom to the in-laws. That way we can eliminate the living room sleepers.

I’ve been the LR person too many times and I hate it. Haha. People trying to be quiet in the morning making coffee and whispering or quiet talking and then the “well good morning sleepyhead” when you get up. I make a firm time of when people are allowed into my “bedroom” now in the morning. Tee hee.

Exactly. This is the same issue that comes up regardless of villa size. At some point, you have decide how many sleeping "spaces" you want, versus how many sleeping "surfaces" you need.

Yeah, at one point we had four in a Grand Villa - we didn't plan it that way, it worked out that way due to a death in the family. But my husband and I were in the master bedroom and each of our kids had their own room - and at that age it was really great. We've also done six with three couples - asking two couples to share a room with two queen beds is completely doable, but that wasn't what we did. So in both those cases we had far more "surfaces" available than people.

We stayed in a Grand Villa at OKW, and there were 7 of us, 3 of whom were children. But we were sitting around talking one day, "What if a bunch of guys wanted to come here for a golf trip? How many people do you think would fit in here?" and we decided about 12-14.

12-14 guys on a golf trip all staying in the same OKW GV? Nah, don't see that happening - too much bed and bathroom sharing - wouldn't work! Maybe for an evening dinner, but not an extended stay......

We would routinely sleep 7 or 8 dudes in a regular, 2-queen hotel room on road trips in college. 4 in the beds, 1 on the roll-away, and 2-3 on the floor wherever there was room (they got stepped-on a lot in the middle of the night). It was crowded, but cheap! I wouldn't do that now that I'm old, though.

To answer the OP's question, we had 6 in a GV last time, and I think we had 2 people that canceled last-minute. 8 would have been fine, but I, personally, wouldn't have wanted many more than that, or we would have people in the living room or in uncomfortable bed situations. Now that I'm middle-aged, I would much rather use more points for more space, rather than skimping-and-cramming.

I’d assume the two DD are, but are the two spouses comfortable sharing a room?

Yeah, I'm thinking three guys, because my husband's golfing buddies aren't sharing rooms or sleeping in the living room. Six people if you bring spouses.

Now, if I were sending my college aged kids to Disney in a Grand Villa and telling them to bring their friends - fill it to capacity (and you'd still have space, but on the Disboards, we don't exceed occupancy limits :))

We’ve done 12 in the GF Grand Villa. Grandparents, 2 siblings and their spouses with their kids. It was comfortable because the GV has effectively 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms.

I've done 9 in a Treehouse, so 12 in a GV would be easy.

As a lifelong recovering people pleaser, you'd be surprised what people will deal with for a free Disney deluxe hotel room for week. The limit is 12.

The question is are YOU comfortable having them in the living room area or does that negatively impact your idea of a staying in a Grand Villa?

I've learned to book a 1 bedroom and several separate studios instead of GV or 2-bedroom, depending on the company. 🤣
