How many guests will be expecting beer at Gaston's Tavern?

Had a hilarious conversation with my husband last night. He's been getting quite excited about the new Fantasyland Expansion, though I'm being careful about oversharing because I know he likes surprises.

Last night I showed him a review of the pork shank from Gaston's Tavern, and said we'd definitely have to stop and have some as pork's his favourite meat. Then I mentioned I'd like to have some of the flavoured apple juice - LeFou's Brew - in a souvenir cup.

"And I'll have a beer," he says, happily.

"Uh, no... there's just the apple juice."

"No, I mean I'll have a beer in the Tavern."

"The only place they sell alcohol in the Magic Kingdom is at Be Our Guest, and only at the dinner service, and I couldn't get ressies this year. We'll have to go to one of the other parks if you want a drink."

He was surprised. "Really? How can they call it a Tavern if they don't sell beer?"

"It's a pretend Tavern?"

The conversation has me wondering now how many guests will be wandering into Gaston's Tavern over the next few months and wondering where the beer's hiding. :rotfl2: Especially the ones who've been to the Hog's Head Pub in the Three Broomsticks at Universal, and are expecting something similar!

My husband had a similar reaction to Liberty Tree Tavern in MK years ago.... Lol

Tortuga Tavern, Liberty Tree Tavern--also no alcohol.

Oh, I know, but they're not big in anyone's mind right now.

And a lot of non-Dis people I've talked to seem to be equating the FLE with the Wizarding World, mainly based on the statuary and theming. When in actual fact they're very different... I may have to remind my husband that FLE doesn't currently have any rides that even come close to the Forbidden Journey.

(I'm still quite excited about the Little Mermaid dark ride, though!)

I didn't even put two and two together about LeFrou's Brew looking exactly like a nice big beer fresh from the tap! When I walked out of the tavern and back into the middle of Fantasyland with my brew, I got so many stares and I didn't know why. It didn't hit me until after we were home and reading online. :lmao: I'm surprised no one stopped me and asked me "WHERE did you GET that beer?!"

That's hilarious! :lmao:

Oh my gosh... now I'm wondering when the first outraged parent is going to hit the media about Disney "grooming" children to become alcoholics by selling them apple juice disguised as beer.

After all, a preschool was in the news last year for the crime of serving their children apple juice in teeny tiny plastic steins during the Octoberfest celebrations! :rolleyes2

LeFou's Brew is $10 - it should have alcohol in it! :rotfl:

The CM told me it was only $5 without the cup... that's an overpriced souvenir cup, but I wanted it for the memory.

As I walked into Gaston's Tavern last Sunday, a woman walked out and huffed to her husband, "It's not even real beer!" :rotfl:

BTW, I will add that it's a ncie drink. It is no where near as good as a Butter Beer. For $9.99 I doubt I'll ever order another brew. But if they sold a $5 version in a normal cup (like Butter Beer) then I would get it again.

Wait, you can order it without the cup? The boogers! Of course that isn't on the menu. :rolleyes2

Did you see positive or negative reviews on that pork shank? It really is like eating caveman meat,it's a huge bone with way too much grease, what was edible tasted pretty good but it'snot something I'm ordering again.

They actually do sell a $5 version in a cup. The people in front of me ordered it, and the CM offered it to me, but I declined because I was actually only getting the drink for the cup.

I didn't like it very much. It was just frozen apple juice. Too sweet for me.

Yup it's just under $5 for the brew in a normal plastic cup. I think it IS on the menu!

I actually liked it a LOT more than I expected. The foam on top had no taste whatsoever, but the drink itself was like a very light apple cider with a hint of marshmallow. YUM.

They do; it is.

As for the topic at hand, I imagine the number of people disappointed it's not "authentic" will be proportionate to the current, or former, number of people who were disappointed to learn that the Magic Kingdom was dry. No one seems to be up in arms that the Haunted Mansion isn't really haunted, though...;)

EasyWDW liked it:

"It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that I present to you the Roasted Pork Shank. It was delicious. Positively primeval. I really couldn’t believe it. The meat is moist and tender and there’s a ton of it. It’s roasted to perfection with outstanding seasoning. I wouldn’t leave Gaston’s without one. It was also much easier to eat than the Turkey Leg because the bone doesn’t splinter. While it isn’t as physically large as the Turkey Leg, I think it’s just as much meat and it’s much easier to handle. Five stars." And coincidentally my husband and I were commenting the other day that we're exceptionally easy to please when it comes to dining, compared to a friend of ours who is a bit of a gourmand. So as long as it tastes good, my husband won't care how fatty it is.

I probably won't order it, but that's because if I did I'd never have room for lunch. It's too much food for me.

Bite your tongue! The Haunted Mansion IS haunted! It's a rest home for wayward spooks from all over. :lmao:

Oh dear...I'm in trouble. I see two of my favorite words on that menu "chocolate croissant". I love Disney's chocolate croissants! That might even appease DH when he is in there whining that it can't be a tavern if it doesn't sell beer!

Wait, WHAT???? :scared1: Gosh thanks for the spoiler! You've just ruined Disney World for me.

DS20 and I were at Disney last week, and of course, Gaston's Tavern opens right after we leave - DS played Gaston in a local production of Beauty & The Beast, and wants to walk in singing Gaston's song. (He wanted to meet Belle over at Epcot and sing to her, but fortunate girl, she either had a closed line or was gone... he actually has a great voice and it would have been fun!)

We were lucky to get into the new Fantasyland area during the 10/14 MNSSHP and got the 4.49 plain plastic cup "brew" and a choc croissant. The CM told me the Lefou Brew was "frozen apple juice, toasted marshmallow, and mango whip."

It was quite yummy and I would buy another. (But truth be told, Universal's Butterbeer is incredibly awesome...the regular, not the frozen...)

I, too, was slightly slow on the "looking like beer" thing, but did get it, finally.

I want to see this "brew". There are 2 pics of the menu, but none of the actual drink. Does that strike anyone else as silly?

Truthfully, I've never thought about the tavern not selling alcohol. But it is MK... and I am a beer lover. And as any true beer lover visiting WDW knows, craft beer selections throughout the resort are meager, at best.
