How many GB for my digital camera?

I have a Canon SD750. I need to get some new cards for storage. I want to be able to take say 500 pictures, but also some short video clips too. How many SD cards should I buy and how many GB? I've actually never brought my digital camera to disney, so I'm not sure how fast video eats up storage. Thanks for your help!

how long are you going down for? With a digital camera i take many more pics then i would have under film. My first trip i took over 900 pic in 5 days? But of course many were double and triple shots so i deleted the ones i did not like. I would plan on having enough for 750 shots. I have not done video either but i think it does use up alot of your memory. DH did a few minute of video for something and actually ran out of video tape. But i don't remember how much was on it or the size of the card.
They are cheap enough now that you can bring back ups just in case

My camera is an 8 mg camera and I bought a 4 gig card. It holds over 1000 pictures. Good thing it does because I took over 700 pictures on our last trip. If you watch the ads you can pic up a 4 gig card for a great price.

One of the nice things about digital cameras is the ability to delete. You can periodically go through your pictures and delete the duplicates/out of focus/eyes closed/etc versions. You'll find that if you would typically shoot 500 film pictures in your trip, you might only have half of that as "keepers".

So this is what I would do... find what's on sale and get a few of them. I typically bring 3 or 4 4gb SD cards with me, I have one just for video (I have a kodak HD camera so I know it can use up a lot of space for videos) anyhow, Best Buy has 4GB Sandisk SD cards on sale this week. I had 2 2GB cards, and didn't even fill one! It was over 500 photos (we were there 9 days). I've also heard that you should have several cards with smaller capacities, since if the card is lost or corrupted, you won't lose all your pics that way. If you have them all on one large card, and it's lost or won't read or run over (could happen!), all your pictures are gone. Just my .02. HTH

I would definitely recommend taking multiple cards...JUST IN CASE! Maybe change out the card each day incase on gets damaged or even stolen.

Memory cards are so inexpensive these days that it's definitely worth the twenty bucks for a memory card. I just bought the Powershot SD870IS and a 4g memory card was around $20.

I bring my laptop (if this an option) and download the photos everyday. I can review the photos that night and relive the day again.

As a professional photographer I suggest taking several 1 and 2gb cards instead of ONE 4gb card. I'd hate for your card to corrupt and then you're left with no memories. Better for 1 1gig card go bad than the 1 BIG one.

I recently found a deal online and got 4bg for only 20.00 but you need to make sure your camera can do the sdhc cards. Mine can use them but the slot on my computer can't read over 2gb so I have to plug my camera into my computer to retrieve them rather than gettting the right off the card. I wasn't happy about that so I went ahead and got a set of 2gb cards for around 30.00. I DH, and DD will have cameras of their own and I wanted all of us to be able to take lots of photos. Between the 3 of us we should get some cool pics. I think you also need to consider videos. If you want to film some video you will need more memory. I agree with the previous poster that it's better to have many smaller cards. You don't want to risk losing your memories. I also have some 1gb cards as well that I will be bringing along just in case. ALso I keep reminding myself not to forget extra batteries and a charger!

I take along more than one card. I have a Sony DSC-H50. I take two 2GB cards and our laptop. I download each night onto the laptop. But having the two card enables me to switch them out each day rather than using the same one over and over on our trip. I take a lot of pictures. Our last Disney trip in December was over 1000 pictures and videos. No matter what size card you decide on for your camera I would just recommend that you take more than one. You never know when something might happen.

Great tip. One of my cards got corrupted on my trip. Luckily for me, I just started using this card.

Question for you....... is this card no good now? It is a Kingston card and I believe had lifetime warranty

I take TONNNS of pictures!! I have a DSLR with a 4 gig card, hold about 1000 pics. In 8 days... I took over 1200 pics that I kept...NO clue how many photos I actually deleted! I brought my laptop with me though just so i can dump the pics every night onto my laptop. There are places at disney that will burn your pics onto CDs for you if you need to!

Huge tip, Format your card!! Deleting pics ruins the lines of memory in a card format or your card WILL become curupt. Most people don't know they have to or even how to, don't be like me and learn the hard way I lost 400 pics of a graduation party and was the only one who took pics. Read your manual if you don't know how and don't buy PNY there crap.

Be careful! Not all digitals, unless they are brand new, can handle cards above 1 GB. They tend to fail pretty easily with the big cards. The owner's manual should list the recommended max memory size for your cards. But that also makes multiple cards a good idea...

i always have two 1 G and one 2 G card on me for my WDW vacations. i don't take tons of movies and the ones i take are not long clips.....but i can't seem to pass up the live acts in WDW parks without taking some 3-5 min video clips. a few of those on a 1 gig card do eat up some memory.

i review my pics each night and dump any pics/videos i don't consider keepers.

honestly just 2-3 years ago when i first got my digital camera, the 1G card set me back about $50. now you can get cards so cheaply. i don't even blink when they tell me the price of the 2 or 4 gig cards.

We took our laptop and transferred our pictures every night. I even transferred my mom's pictures so that she would not have to go out and buy more memory cards before we left for our vacation.

I have a Canon Powershot and it's under the main settings menu, you just have to scroll down a bit. You should see something that says 'format'. A lot of people don't even know about this function!

But be warned, that when you format your card ALL data is erased. Even protected data.
