How many ECV on a bus?

PS: want to help them out even more? Suggest that for their next trip, they go to Europe and overflow them with stories of how accessible it is and how ECV equals front of the line.

Just for your eyes; yes; sometimes it means front of the line, but in the whole it is so not accessible overhere compared to the US that they will get overfrustrated. They'll have one big old very very miserable trip. And added bonus; it'll cost them more also. (no way 3 adults with ecv will fit into one room and overhere you wíll have to pay when needing a second room for this reason)

The southern European countries tend to be the best place for this, many many buildings with very lovely high curbs. Don't advice on the Scandanavian countries, they tend to do a lot better.

I have a feeling that after they spend one day or even a few hours in an ECV they won't think of it as an advantage..if that's what's on their mind. I'd give anything to be able to move about in the crowds like everyone else. Whenever I go to Disney I have to take a huge dose of patience as I wait for everything- people to move out of my way, busses to load ( if the lift is operational ) and being tied down, longer lines for w/c's/ECV boarding, needing to rest as it's tiring sitting all day and looking upward, and on and on. Perhaps their renting the ECV's will be just the eye-opener and life lesson they need to realize what it's like to be confined to a power wheelchair. It is a difficult experience, not an easier one. And yes, I agree that it's this type of person who makes folks sometimes glare at those in ECV's without an apparent disability. I've waited for over an hour before behind other ECV users at a resort just trying to get to a park, with my SD on the hot pavement. I've never judged one of them and have always felt that the HUGE increase in people using ECV's is due to people who could not before enjoy the parks now realizing they can. I'd really hate for people to start using them just because they are lazy or think there is a percieved advantage and make my hard life even harder.---Kathy

I didnt even think of the room! Where are they staying?? You can usually fit one ECV into a room easily, and sometimes even two... However, 4 will be an impossibility, perhaps even for two rooms. they may end up having to spend more money because of these ECVs!

to a previous poster - yes, they will go to the head of the line on ECVs for the bus because that is the law - wcs and ECVs have to go first... however, that is the ONLY time they will skip a line!

something else i just thought of - due to needs in my family, we rent a car and do not ride buses, so it hasnt personally happened to ME, but i have heard of the "rash" of bus drivers recently who just dont want to load people onto the bus. Wouldnt it be funny if they had to wait for 4 or 5 buses before they can get on one!! They would be suffering because of fellow lazy people!

I was wondering how many ECV"S can fit on a bus at one time? My DH's family - mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law will all have one. (and no they don't all need one, but they are absolute idiots- no love lost between me and them) and will be taking Disney transportation. I'm just wondering if they will have to wait for a lot of buses - which will make me and

Please don't take this as I'm embarrassed of them becuz they have ECVS - its because they are just lazy and really don't need them, it infuriates me that they try to buck the system at every turn...

I am concerned it is at PC about the same time as ours and while I would LOVE to meet you , I am dreading the fact I may have to wait in line to load... behind your four ECV using (or would that be abusing) in-laws!

If they are staying at one of the resorts that share buses with other resorts (ex. All-Stars), they may find even more of a wait....

You are just a wonderful group!!! My in-laws are the most hateful people on earth - they loathe me... Why? because I stood up to their lazy ways and making their son do everything for them - they used to call him on the phone (when we lived about 15 min. from them - but now 5 hours!!!) to unload their groceries, they are not disabled or elderly - just LAZY -

I am not helping them one iota - not one tip, secret, special viewing spot, free water giving, dole whip eating, I love eeyore moment!!!!

and I hope if you see them (9/14 - 9/19) - you'll all run them over with your well-deserved EVC's

I'm going to be at Pop Century from 9/6-9/22 and will be on an ECV too and if I have to wait for them, I'm going to be royally peeved. I don't have a choice. I have to use an ECV or face losing 2 days of my vacation for every day without it (one day of walking equals two days of napping). If I pay for my rental and can't use it, there will be heads rolling, I guarantee it.

I am totally amazed that anyone would CHOOSE to use an ECV if you didn't really need one, after the trip we just had with my mom on ECV it was tough, I can't imagine wanting to use one if you didn't actually need one. One night after WISHES in MK we were literally at a total standstill unable to move with her there were so many people it would have been dangerous to even try, what I would have given to be able to just walk her out of the crowd, your in-laws are in for a rude awakening, I hope it's as difficult for them as possible. Just too bad that they are going to make some person who actually needs their ECV wait because of them. Rude people.

I saw a family that had 4 ecv's last week at the MK, they did not look like happy people at all. Unfortunately they were doing rides in the same order as my family so I got to see a lot of them.

The first ride they were demanding alternate entrance to a ride with a mainstream wc entrance...no luck. They waited in line.

Second ride? They got the wc entrance and were still waiting to be loaded as we finished riding,

3rd ride? same as 2nd.

4th ride? they demanded a different entrance, didn't get it and parked the ecv and all stood unhappily in the mainstreamed line.

By the 5th ride they had ditched the ecv's and were running along, running and complaining that their "plan to beat the lines was ruined because Disney sucks! and *Joe* lied to them." (Yes I heard them say that...sad!!!)

I always feel for families traveling with real needs who run into roadblocks because of the abuse by some. and I would trade many things to not have a child who struggles with a disability, I can't imagine people choosing to pretend to be disabled just to get on a ride before someone else.

Ya know, I actually feel a bit guilty riding an ECV.... I can walk and don't absolutely need it to get around all the time. But I definately am NOT riding it just because I'm lazy. I have varying foot pain... sometimes mild to sometimes severe... along with shooting pains
I just happen to know that if I tried walking around for 4 days, I would NOT be able to... probably couldn't walk too well the second day and not at all the third.
However, there are actually 3 in our party of 7 that will be riding either a ECV or an Electric WC.
My Mother, can barely walk from the handicap spot at the grocery store to where they keep the electric scooters... and forget about shopping if there is none available. She recently got her own chair and is taking it with us.
My best friend who is joining us (along with her family) has in the past had back surgery and actually needs it again, but is refusing to until it gets much worse. She too can walk, but knows that the stress of so much walking will cause her too much pain.
We already know that we won't be riding together on the bus...
I just feel guilty about using a space when there are those far worse off than I am.

My DH, Me and DD3 (a nice follow the rule, will take your picture for you Family) will be at All Star Music from 9/17 - 9/27. We will only have to spend 3 days with them!!! I planned it that way

So now they'll have to take 2 sets of busses to get anywhere. They have to take an internal Fort Wilderness bus to get to the parks bus stop. Then they have to take a park bus to get to the park.

Hi,

I am new to having to use an ECV. My mother and I are going to WD in May and was thinking that we might both need an ECV. How would that work for the 2 of us and the buses? Would we both be able to ride at the same time or would we have to take 2 buses?

We both can walk some, but have difficulty with distances. Is there another option other than renting a car? Would wheelchairs be better for us since we can walk some?

Oh boy, do you ever need patience! Last Jan we got stuck in a crowd we hadn't expected and people kept sitting and climbing on DW and her chair--it was brutal!

Yep, we encountered one of those last Jan when traveling with my DFIL (ecv) and my DW (w/c that we fold up and I hold on the bus). He pulled past us, opened the front doors and ignored the member of our party (there were 12 of us total and we'd been the first people at the stop) who was at the front door telling him there was an ecv that needed the lift. Then, once he'd filled his bus he said, "oh, I didn't see you there. There's no space now, you can get the next bus." Argh!!! But, maybe your in-laws will luck into a couple of these.

I'm glad that you are separating yourself from these people who are trying to cheat the system. I've never really understood this approach, but, many people must have considered it because we get so many people glaring, or looking disapproving, when my DW gets up out of the chair and walks somewhere. Just because she can walk around Fantasyland doesn't mean she can walk from the bus TO Fantasyland--well, she probably could, but, then she couldn't walk around it...really, which would you choose?

The buses all have a capacity of two wheelchairs or ECVs. If one of the two spaces is taken, you either have the choice to split up or both wait for the next bus. Since the buses generally run 20 minutes apart, I would suggest splitting up and the first person would wait at the bus unload (or go back to the room if returning from a park) and the second person would catch up.

No, there were no w/cs or ecvs on the bus yet. We were first in line and there weren't any loaded yet. But, the driver didn't want to bother with his lift. So, he let everyone else board (around our party that was at the front of both lines) and then "suddenly discovered" us.

But, yes, had we needed two tie-down spots and one was taken we would have split up.
