How many DVCers still end up paying cash for rooms?

So after years of wishing, we finally bought into DVC about 6 months ago. Since then, however, we have stayed twice on cash, and twice on points, as we have allocated most of our points. Obviously we dont have enough:laughing: So I'm curious, how many people still end up with cash stays. Am I crazy for just not buying more points??

Sometimes we use points for Friday/Saturday stays, but sometimes, like earlier in September, we stayed at Pop Century for Saturday night and then moved on to AKV.

Buying more points does not make any difference...we've added on 200 points this year alone, and now have 775...and still we did the Pop night.

We like to have at least one 5-6 night extended Family vacation every year.
We're the Grandparents, and families live far away. Cousins, and friends are also invited...it seems very few people come visit us in Ohio, but mention meeting us in WDW and we have takers!

We haven't used cash stays ... but we do trade in using other timeshare. We have 175 points, are staying 9 nights in a 1BR (BWV) followed by 2 nights in a 1BR Concierge unit (AKV) next January ... and are still banking 109 points.

Love the flexibility.

Used to book on cash for nights once in a while. But not since I upped the ante and bought more points, lol.

We've used cash stays in the past to extend a trip at a CRO resort. For us it isn't a matter of needing more points, we LIKE the CRO rooms and the CRO flexibility and find it nice to spend the occational weekend night there.

We frequently book weekend nights on cash. We're always in "point hoarding" mode, and look at using cash as the same as "renting" points directly from Disney. When cash is used for weekend nights with a member discount, it often works out to $7 or $8 per point--we think that's a pretty good value!:goodvibes

We stay on cash at CRO rooms on the week-ends. With the AP discount, it is a fun way to try different resorts...like a bunch of mini-vacations!

We're using cash this weekend for one of our nights. We couldn't get a studio on points for Saturday night, but we could get one with an AP discount. We're actually paying less for that night than if we booked through member services. Now if we can just get the front desk to link the CRO and DVC reservations once we get there...

We bought 200 points in Feb this year, knowing it would be enough for us to visit every other year (or every year in low season). However, we are taking the in-laws with us in April and staying in a 2-bed so had to pay 2 weekend nights in cash (luckily, with a DVC discount so not so bad).

I don't think it matters how many points you own, to be honest, I reckon you still end up extending your holidays and using more and more points until you havet o either add on or pay cash.

We were seriously considering an add-on but don't have the money to buy outright at the moment - when we do (early next year) I am hoping CRV will have been announced and we can add on there.

Youv'e got a bajillion points and still do the POP night...:scared:
I am too big of a chicken to do the cash thing yet. I was looking at a cash weekend in September before my waitlist came through and I shook when they told me the price to put on my credit card. The only thing I could think of is writing the check for the points we just bought, and deciding no cash stays yet. Maybe with the extended family thing happens the cash it is but......Oh Bobbi, "it seems very few people come visit us in Ohio" We live on Long Island in NY and the wifes side is Italian. When they do visit we can't get them to leave.:scared1: ;)

We're paying for our upcoming trip with cash - mainly because I waited too long to book and there were no more rooms with points left.

We always do at least one night cash. We do not have a lot of points so I try to stay Sunday -Friday, but it is always the most expensive flights to fly then. So we are flying Sat-Sat on our december trip. We will stay off site the 1st Sat. since our flight gets in on the evening and then we are staying at All Star Sports the last friday so we do not have to miss a day at the parks. It works for us!:goodvibes

We typically pay cash for weekends. We use the AP rates and special promotions. Although, when Disney starts charging more for weekend stays that may change.

So, when you pay cash for a night or two and then use your points, are you able to stay in the same room? Can you book the "cash" portion through Member Services as well so the reservation is linked?

Also, if I called Central Reservations, am I able to get a DVC discount on rooms? (as was mentioned above)...

New member here so there's a learning curve. :)

There's a lot that I don't know..but, CRO does not rent Standard View at BWV, so if you get a room from CRO at BWV, you for sure will have to move if you used your points for that type of rooms.
Member Services can link your cash/point reservation.
You do not get a DVC discount on from Central Reservation.

 Part of the reason we did Pop, was because we were with a DCuz. When we go with her, or members of her family, we tend to do "Dutch treat" for weekend nights. We are also doing a huge celebration next year...our 40th Anniversary that's consuming over 700 points, and there still are times like for Flower and Garden when DH and I want to go. I do agree about not liking to spend the cash...and I did actually try to get us both rooms at AKV for the Saturday night, but I tried too late. There was only one studio available, it was dedicated and our stay was lock off, and I went on a waitlist for a month, and then gave it up....and really POP has it's charms. I enjoyed the Dippity Pool, and the food court has some selections that we like.

In the past 11 years since we've owned DVC, we've paid cash once.

I literally called on my way to the resort, as I decided to make an impromptu stop driving from Florida to Michigan.

We stayed at Pop. It was OK, but I wouldn't stay there more than a night or two. It feels too Motel 6 like after all those DVC stays!

We are staying on cash for our trip in November, all 6 nights at ASMo. We are out of points. So yes we do still stay on cash but this is really the first time, and hopefully only a handful more, because that is the reason we bought the points ;)
