FW is just too far for us to bring our TT right now due to time restrictions but I would love to stay there. We always ride through FW and it just seems so peaceful.

Has anyone ever used their DVC points to rent a cabin?

I cant see any point charts for it.

Thanks

The cabins @ FW are not DVC, they are considered moderates. Unfortunately there would be no option to use DVC points for a stay there.

Perhaps you are thinking of the Wilderness Lodge Villas?

I have read that its possible using some conversion calculation but others have posted that it wasn't a very good deal.

Like it would be cheaper to rent your points and use the money for the cabins.

Have you posted this in the DVC forums? Most posters here are campers so they wouldn't have any DVC points to use.

Yes you can move normal DVC points into 'The Disney Collection' which allows you to stay at places that don't have DVC at them. But it is horrendously expensive. I had to do it once for a last minute trip to see a shuttle launch when there was absolutely no rooms with DVC (booked about 4 days out!) Ended up staying at the Poly and the Grand but it cost about twice what it would if we had paid rack rate!

If you're a DVC member I'd suggest just renting out your points if you have the time and using the cash to stay there.

We stayed in a cabin last year at Thanksgiving using our DVC points. I don't recall exactly what we paid but for us it was worth it to be back at the fort.

It could range anywhere from 33 to 54 points a night ,what night(week or weekend) and what season. To see chart go to collection page, disney florida, then Fort Wilderness. Two pages are listed ,one for campsite and one for cabins

Look on page 30 of your 2012 planner. The cheapest nights are 31 points and there is that pesky $95 fee. I stayed in a cabin on points for a few nights a few years back before the fee and when it was closer to 25 points a night.

Got a golf cart and enjoyed it immensely!

Not completely accurate. There are quite a few DVC members who are also campers. You can book campsites with DVC points also.

For some of us it's not whether its a deal or not. The points are part of our vacation dollars. For a few nights I would never worry about renting to get better value - the effort would not be worth my time. Especially for a campsite at 7 or 8 points. But renting and using cash is an option.

We actually had a campsite booked using our DVC points for a week this May, however we decided not to haul camper from NJ and switched our points to a cabin for 2 nights...I believe it was 81 pts. Once you book the campground they convert your points to a cash reservation so if you make changes you either loose the points for have to switch to a Value/Moderate Resort. You can not go back to points and reserve a DVC resort. We decided it was best to stay at the campground using the converted points and change to AKV to finish off the week in a villa. We are looking forward to the cabin and we are on the hunt for our campsite for November.

We're camping on our points march 23-30 and it's 81 points for the week for a preferred spot. The cash price through disney is around 840.00 so if you figure 10 dollars a point it's cheaper on points.. Fort wilderness is the only one in the collection that does not charge the 100.00 fee.
