Not much fun to talk about given how we all generally enjoy the annual journey to the Magic Kingdom (or multiple journeys!). However, just curious if people are changing their plans due to the economic environment.:sad2:

Not yet. I have 2 planned for 2009.

With DVC once I get the airfare paid for the trips do not cost that much. LOVE my DVC.

I have bought up park tickets as I have had the money and even have a couple of annual passes paid for just waiting to use. So we are good for a couple of years.

We have reservations for Jan 1- 9th and have the airline tickets already paid for and we're using our Disney Visa rewards for our meal plan for part of our trip and of course our lodging is paid for being DVC members so we're not making any changes. Besides sometimes one needs the fun to make up for the doldrums of life. Candace

Not me. Already bought our APs and DDE renewal and have free lodging. No reason not to go now.

I will never cancel a trip because of what I hear or see on the news.
While I do feel badly for those affected, as long as I still have a job the economy is fine for me personally. In fact, there may be some great deals to be had on a variety of things which may make my personal economy great.

The best thing people who are working can do for the less fortunate, is to go spend money. :thumbsup2

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Mike and Gracey.

It's our one great escape 2-3 times a year. As long as there's enough to buy food and pay the tab, we're outta here. :cool1:

As long as we can afford to get there we're good to go. And we have enough Amtrak points to survive a few years taking AutoTrain. Now if the company I work for goes belly up, then likely, I would have to sell DVC.

:) We used all our points for this year and banked some for next year. We are planning a big trip with the extended family us, in laws, parents, brothers, sisters etc next year.

While everything is still a go, we do have cash reservations for this December and are thinking about canceling those reservations. Just not sure we want to spend extra $ on this trip given we were already there this year and will be going again at least once and likely twice in 2009.

Like the others once the airfare and annual passes are paid for, we're committed to the trip. Of course if we lose our jobs, I'll probably be renting enough points to pay for annual dues and banking the rest.

We're not canceling, even though DH has been unemployed for 4 months. We'll keep on flying too.
Round trip for the two of us from Philly to Orlando on Amtrak is $452 and takes almost 22 hours. Airfare for the same dates cost us $332 for a 2 hour trip.

We are going in December because it is paid for ( except for meals) HOWEVER I would like to buy into new Contemporary Towers but am afraid to do this now until the economy gets better:confused3

Like everyone else, I have everything paid for already for my December trip, so there is no reason to cancel. However, I do have 3 trips planned for next year, and may have to cancel one or two of them. Due to the economy, I am going to bite the bullet, and eat a few meals in my villa. Man! I hate to do that, as I HATE to cook, but that's my bow to the bad economy.:scared1:

...we're still going. We just recently got back from VWL (Aug).

In 2009, I already have reservations at AKV April 11 - 18, and VB July 19 - 26. As soon as the 7 month window opens up, I'm making reservations at BCV, BWV or OKW for July 26 - Aug 1.

On a fun note, if I can get reservations at BCV this summer, we will have stayed at all the DVC resorts with the exception of HHI. I haven't tried to book there yet, but with DH being a teacher, I've heard summer is pretty tough to get unless you own there. The beauty...we have years and years and years to try! :goodvibes Now, I can begin figuring out when we can stay at BLT, Hawaii, GCV, THV and the list goes on...:cloud9:

I just love those Amtrak points! I use the Amtrak cc instead of the Disney Visa, as the return is so much better, and my points accumulate faster. And I can book a train trip at 11 months--just like DVC!

Like other posters, I have my room taken care of, an AP, my travel has been paid for (or free for some trips)--meals are the only thing left. I have 3 trips planned between now and Feb--and I'm ready. :yay:

We are fortunate in that we are not changing any holiday plans at DVC or elsewhere. Will be at OKW in less than two weeks for a five night stay, then again at BCV in December for five nights.

As a Floridian we hope the tourists keep coming. Our state has a very large tourism industry. Supporting that industry are a great many lower wage service jobs. Those are the folks who are really hit hard during down cycles. What we enjoy as recreation supports what many rely on for their livelihood.

We'll keep on flying too.

I looked at AmTrak from Grand Rapids....37 HOURS!!!

I can drive myself there in 22 hours!:lmao:

It's $1275 for 2 adults and 2 children!

I like the idea of taking my kids on a train, but not for that amount of time and money.

We are heading out in 64 days and we just booked our "celebration" trip for next August. We are also planning a large family trip in 2010. If the economy wasn't so bad, we'd be able to take advantage of one of the resales, but DH wants to wait until we are in a bit better shape (until graduation this summer) before we do anything else. We aren't going as much as we'd like since we bought DVC, but we're still going!!
