My son has some sensory issues and I was wondering if they fireworks would be too much for him to handle? I know noises are much louder over water. I believe the pirate party etc is prior to the fireworks, so maybe we could do the party and scoot out before the fireworks back to our room?

I found them no louder than land based fireworks....yes, they are loud...but so is the music they play along with the fireworks and at the pirate party. Pirate party is loud and very crowded so try to find a spot away from all the action to watch the fireworks...maybe Deck 12 forward. Pretty much both Decks 11 and 12 on the Dream are packed mid-ship to watch the party.

They're loud. Not as loud as the ones at Magic Kingdom, but my daughter, whose ears are very sensitive, had to have her ears covered.

they are just as loud as any regular disney fire works i did not find them to be overly loud

You're never more than about 30 seconds from a door so, chance it, take some cotton with you if you're that worried, but otherwise, I say, the noise is not enough to cause an issue for most people.

I have to disagree with all the other posters here. I can not speak as to the Dream fireworks as I have seen them, but the ones they used last time I was on the Wonder (that was the PC crossing in Jan) all the noise made from the fireworks was a pop. Maybe a little louder pop, but nothing close to the theme park fireworks. If you skip the party were the play amplified music and watch them from a lower deck it is not loud at all. I know loud, I work at LAX. I would not worry.

Actually, you and I agree, completely.

OP states that she has one that is particularly sensative.... you might agree that the blaring music on the deck for the pirate party is more of an issue than the fireworks themselves, yes?

My DS3 is not crazy about fireworks. We watched a minute or two and then he wanted to go inside. I would agree that the Pirate and other deck parties were much louder IMO and he had no problems even being in the front row for those, but the fireworks were just too much. So we went with the flow and called it a night.

I went to the deck party on the DREAM in April, but DH stayed in our cabin on deck 6, verandah. He said he jumped out of seat when the fireworks when off. I on the other hand did not see them as loud at all since they are off the side of the ship, probably closer to our 6th deck verandah.

Sometimes, any loud pop is too loud.

However, I agree the fireworks on board ship are nowhere near a loud as they are on land. this is mostly due to the acoustics of setting them off at sea. there is nothing for them to echo off of except the ship, and that echo is away from you for the most part. As a result while there is a sharp pop - and sets of pops, but no sustained noise from the bursts that you get on land where there are a lot of sound-reflective surfaces.

I completely agree with the above posts with "the fireworks really aren't that loud" sentiments.

The pirate night fireworks we saw earlier this year on the Magic weren't anywhere near as deafening as the blaring music being used by the performers during that show. The pyrotechnics DCL uses aboard don't even have noisemaker pieces (the small, standalone bright white flashes creating the ongoing "rumble" in the youtube video below) that are the true loud "boom" elements people associate with a fireworks performance.

My oldest son (5 yo) also has sensory issues and, though this was an issue for us too, we figured we could leave with him if we needed to so we stayed for them at the Pirate party and he had no issue at all. We found them to be quieter than land fireworks and, in fact, he loved them because he felt he could finally enjoy a fireworks show without the noise disturbing him.

We attended the Pirate Party in the Caribbean for the first time in early Dec., then watched the fireworks. The party itself was pretty loud. As well the pool stage area was quite crowded, there was music, lots of characters, and a mock battle when the pirates took over the ship, and were then defeated by Mickey. Then fireworks. From a strictly adult viewpoint, the fireworks were relatively quiet when compared to the volume of the stage show (audio was on speakers) and the noise of the partygoers.

I am an adult and have had sensory issues when fireworks are displayed all of my life. Now my grandson has it as well...what I do is buy the earplugs (wax substance) from CVS, Walgreen, etc. and we plug our ears before the fireworks. The earplugs takes the the popping down a decible or two. We use them at the WDW land fireworks as well.
We don't have issues with music as much as fireworks.:confused3

I would suggest finding a spot on the other side of the funnel from the crowd, on the deck above the pool. No crowd to go through (some people but not a crush) if the noise is too much. I myself cannot do the crush of people at the pirate party. But the fireworks are great. Port side has fewer people than starboard and you see just as much.

I'd say in order of decreasing loudness:

1) Mickey Whistle
2) Sail Away/Pirate Night
3) Fireworks
